Removal of a request at ADCO/RFC

If you remove a request because it is longer than 6 momths since the requester's last visit, there is a template you can use: {{subst:user:phantomsteve/adco-removed}} It automatically adds you signature, by the way!

The results are like this:

I acknowledge the message above, and hope that it gets archived in due course.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:16, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

About your Admin Coaching request

User talk

Your submission at Admin Coaching has been removed from the request list, as requests where the submitter has not visited the page for at least 6 months (or been inactive for at least 4 months) are removed.

You are welcome to re-submit a request should you wish to, but please note that you are expected to regularly check the page (and to update the "last visited" field of your request) to show your continued interest in the project. If you do re-submit, please carefully re-read the instructions for submission as they may have changed since you last visited!

As noted on the project page, there is an on-going backlog with the project, as so few admins are currently coaching. This means that you may have a long wait for a response (if you receive one at all).

If you no longer require admin coaching, I hope that you continue to enjoy editing Wikipedia!

Regards, -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 16:16, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the input, Steve. Please consider adding a reference to that template on the WP:ADCO page.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:15, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I have added a reference to it on the WP:ADCO/RFC page. Incidently, your reply to the previous message will ensure that the thread will be archived, as archiving goes by the last date in the thread! -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 18:38, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:54, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that it appears you made significant contributions to File:Pacific Bell logo 1984-2000.png or one of it's predecessors and that it has now been made into a vector graphic at File:Pacific Bell.svg when working with this logo please remember to use the SVG where it is superior, Thanks Koman90 (talk), Network+ (Verify) 18:11, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice, but I don't think that your first uploaded SVG version is superior because the wording is in black rather than the greyish in the PNG versions, and therefore it is not a direct replacement. I started with the sourceless File:Pacific bell logo.png. Do you have a source for any of these images that supports either black or greyish?   — Jeff G. ツ 02:33, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I can go back and change the color to grey, i just need a HEX code or pattone number to change it, or the HUE SAT LUM combination defined by the older pacbell logo standards if you don't have a specific grey you want i can just change the font to grey, since ti is a vector all i have to do is change the ill color on the layer that the text is on it will take me all of about 30 seconds. Koman90 (talk), Network+ (Verify) 03:02, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
if i don't get a response i'll just put a generic grey there, however mos pacbell logos ive seen are black text at lease in the later 90s prior to the sbc buyout they wereKoman90 (talk), Network+ (Verify) 22:47, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
I have not been in the PacBell service area since PacBell was created, so I have no firsthand knowledge of PacBell logos. The gray in File:Pacific bell logo.png appears to be hex 969696 and H 0 S 0 V 58 (not HSL per HSL and HSV) per Paint.NET 3.5.4. It would be really nice if we could actually find a verifiable reliable source for these images.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:21, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
I found a verifiable source for gray at http://www.tinlin.net/jim/email/pacbell.jpg , but it's an alleged photo of a PacBell billboard that was circulated by email. I also found a verifiable source for black at http://www.mobilexhibit.com/archive/Pacbell.jpg , but it's an alleged photo of a display created by Mobilexhibit for their client PacBell. It may be that the gray changed to black before SBC started slapping their logo on the right side, but that's pure speculation.   — Jeff G. ツ 05:18, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm changing the logo to have grey text if you know for shure it was grey, i used a 50% grey on th CMYK color scale so let me know if it needs to be darker or lighter so i can adjust accordingly. Thanks Koman90 (talk), Network+ (Verify) 00:43, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Looks good, thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 01:30, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Re: Turki Faisal Al-Rasheed

Re your message: I deleted Talk:Turki Faisal Rasheed due to WP:CSD#G8, which wouldn't apply to Turki Faisal Al-Rasheed. It having the same content isn't grounds for speedy deletion either. Even though the article has been deleted through various means multiple times, WP:CSD#G4 wouldn't apply because it appears to have never gone through an AfD. So, I recommend starting an AfD for the article and see how that goes. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:28, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks again! You can find the AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turki Faisal Al-Rasheed.   — Jeff G. ツ 11:54, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Please

do not mess with my Talk Page. It's for me to talk, not for you to delete. --Againme (talk) 16:55, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

What I deleted per WP:DENY and WP:RBI was not your talk, it was spam placed there by an indefinitely banned user using an IP Address. Sorry for the intrusion.   — Jeff G. ツ 16:59, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
As per your claim "was not your talk", it was my Talk Page. --Againme (talk) 17:02, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Did you write that information which I deleted?   — Jeff G. ツ 17:03, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
You know I did not. Am I authorized to delete everything in your Talk Page that you did not write? --Againme (talk) 17:05, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
You are authorized to delete only vandalism (including spam) from my userspace (including my user talk page). My userspace has been vandalized over 25 times, and I have an infobox on both my user and user talk pages offering "Thanks in advance to anyone who reverts vandalism in my userspace".   — Jeff G. ツ 17:09, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
And I suppose you consider editions in Talk Pages by banned users as vandalism? I do not... --Againme (talk) 17:33, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Tedder (talk · contribs) blocked the IP Address 119.152.61.170 (talk · contribs) "for userspace spamming at a high rate of speed" per this edit and this log and Nick-D (talk · contribs) correctly stated that the IP Address "spammed" editors user talk pages in this edit. Spam on Wikipedia is defined as one form of vandalism.   — Jeff G. ツ 17:45, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Deleting the spam from another user's talk page is not 100% effective. They still get the new message notification, and then of course they go to the history to see the spam added and deleted. What really needs to be done is for a user with the rollback privilege to delete those requests.
The spammer in question mostly uses IP addresses based in Islamabad, Pakistan. He went by User:Mujahid1947 until somebody got offended by the name itself), then User:Gameboy1947. He has since been banned for dishonest editing (as well as copyright violations), so people faced with his requests should at a minimum verify the figures themselves. He seems to want ISAF coalition casualty figures updated as often as possible. I'm not sure exactly what the motivation is -- to point out the human cost of the war as frequently as possible, to defeat the enemy (ISAF) by exhausting them at their computer terminals, or something more Wikipedia-centric. I probably don't support his goal, but I have said I will update the figures once a month, and I'm still getting requests on my talk page at least weekly. Thundermaker (talk) 17:42, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
So the user's right to know what was left in his/her Talk Page is a "problem"? --Againme (talk) 18:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Your orange bar and user talk page history http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Againme&action=history let you know what was left in your user talk page. Allowing vandalism by indefinitely blocked sockpuppeteers to remain visible is a problem.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:14, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I forget Wikipedia does not allow freedom of speech. How dumb of me... --Againme (talk) 18:20, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
It wasn't your speech, and Wikipedia is not Congress.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:22, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
It was speech, and Wikipedia should guarantee the basic rights. --Againme (talk) 18:25, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Balancing the vandal's right to freedom of expression against my right to freedom of expression (in my deletion/rollback action), I feel that my expression has more justification in the best interests of this encyclopedia, but I'm not going to edit war with you on your user talk page.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:31, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
I´m only debating. Two very important points you do not seem to undestand: censorship (what you did) is not freedom of expression, and b) freedom of speech is not "only for Congress".
You are entitled to your opinion. I do not share it. Please do not contact me any more about that edit.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:38, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Thundermaker, thank you for your input. Please note that I am a rollbacker and I used "rollback all" on the deletion mentioned above.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:17, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, thanks Thundermaker. --Againme (talk) 18:20, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Just to know

Now I'm not talking any more about that edit. Just want to know: Do you think censorship is a type of freedom of speech? I want to know because you just said some very dangerous thing there... --Againme (talk) 18:41, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

I believe that reverting, blocking, and ignoring vandals of Wikipedia to deny them recognition on Wikipedia is in the best interests of Wikipedia.   — Jeff G. ツ 18:46, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for explaining. I'm almost satisfied with your answer. Let's don't fight any more. --Againme (talk) 18:51, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Disruptive edits

My edits to the homebrew channel page are not disruptive. I was removing factually incorrect information. Contrary to what the author of the article believes, it IS illegal to use an exploit to install unauthorized software on a "closed" device. The exploit is illegal under the DMCA, and the actual software (Homebrew Channel) is also illegal for fifty different reasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.49.171.200 (talk) 08:43, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Personal attacks like the one you made in the Edit Summary for this edit will not be tolerated. Please see WP:NPA.   — Jeff G. ツ 00:21, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Also, exactly what subsection or section of what law is broken by installation of software on a device owned by the installer, and what are those "fifty different reasons"?   — Jeff G. ツ 05:16, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Your signature

Please consider removing the part of your sig which upsizes your text, according to Wikipedia:Sig#Appearance and color: Avoid markup such as <big> tags and <font size="3"> markup (which produce big text), or line breaks (<br /> tags), since they disrupt the way that surrounding text displays.. Thank you - KillerChihuahua?!?Advice 12:56, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your concern. I have considered your request and wish to decline at this time. Would you write the same to Fastily (talk · contribs), Dlohcierekim (talk · contribs), J.delanoy (talk · contribs), Tnxman307 (talk · contribs), OlEnglish (talk · contribs), and Elockid (talk · contribs), all administrators who use <big> or <font size="n"> tags in their signatures, setting the example for users like myself? I ensure that my tags do not "disrupt the way that surrounding text displays".   — Jeff G. ツ 15:45, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Since I don't know them and aren't dealing with them, no, I see no reason to appoint myself to run your errands and violate WP:POINT. KillerChihuahua?!?Advice 16:16, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
