Twinkle Bug

I noticed your edit summary on AIV, as "Hm, bug in Twinkle?". I assume you were referring to the fact that Twinkle reported the user's Talk page instead of the user's name. I've had the same problem with Twinkle and this started two days ago. In the months before it worked fine. I'm seriously puzzled.  Channel ®    23:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the confirmation, please continue any discussion of that bug in its own section.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 23:20, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
It's resolved, had a minor brainslap. AzaToth 23:26, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
And now I think it's "really" fixed, forgot that certain links are admin only. AzaToth 23:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I was waiting for an opportunity to try it myself before commenting on the resolution.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 23:56, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

what??

what warning??...what did i do?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.95.140.188 (talk) 09:50, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

The warning I gave you at 23:43, 27 April 2008 (UTC) was for your entire editing history, especially your edits on that date.
The warning I gave you at 19:38, 11 May 2008 (UTC) was for deleting the "References" section of MTV Roadies in this edit.
If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 04:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bell System hires 1969 logo blue.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bell System hires 1969 logo blue.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but this image should be kept because deleting this image might break the "attribution path" for the new SVG image, which breaks licences such as the GFDL.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 04:20, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

"Please stop"

Please do not tell me not to blank things when they are things that can be legitimately blanked. The only things I blank are messages on a shared IP account talk page that appear to have been addressed to me and which I have read, and Sinebot "signatures" that I intended to suppress by using !nosine! in the first place, but forgot (in other words, normal editing of my own content). Oh, and obvious vandalism, of course.

I post to Wikipedia from multiple IP addresses that each are shared by other users, and use my own signature (the one you see below) on reference desk pages in order to maintain a consistent identify without needing to have a user account, which I choose not to have. A Sinebot "signature" in my case, by identifying an IP address, is of negative value, besides being irritatingly officious and self-righteous in tone.

(And I might say the same about a request not to blank things that can be legitimately blanked, but I'll assume that you simply were not aware of the applicable guideline.)

Why did you choose not to have an account? And why did you choose not to use an Edit Summary that emphasizes the legitimacy of your blanking of SineBot's signature of 207.176.159.90's work and your change to Ninebucks' work in this edit?   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 10:04, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I choose not to have an account for two reasons. First, it is my policy never to register with web sites. Second, it is my policy never to use pseudonyms, so if I did have an account I'd use my real name, and contributing to Wikipedia is not something I wish the general public to know at present that I do.
I told you I use multiple IP addresses; the Sinebot signature that you asked about was on one of my own postings, as the "real" signature adjacent suggests. Yes, I could have used an edit summary, but frankly I didn't think anyone would be bothered about me deleting a bit of noise. I did not alter the content of Ninebucks's item; I only added a newline or two in the wikitext, invisible in the formatted page, and that was due to a technical limitation.
Anything else? --Anon, 04:05 UTC, May 20/08.
No, other than pointing out that "Anonymous" and "Anon" are different pseudonyms.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 12:45, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008

New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday June 1st, Columbia University area
Last: 3/16/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).

We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).
