Changing indents

H1N1 Influenza

There is actually a reported case of the H1N1 Influenza in Singapore. 2 are affected and they are in Tan Hock Seng Hospital.

For some unexplained reason, you inserted the sentence "Permitted use from www.maryhopkin.co.uk" in the section "General references versus inline citations". Hi, Temmaharbour. As I explained, what I reverted was your insertion of the sentence "Permitted use from www.maryhopkin.co.uk" into the guideline "Wikipedia:Citing sources". There is absolutely no reason why that sentence should be in the guideline, so I'm afraid it was most certainly a mistake on your part, although it was probably done by accident rather than deliberately. this is what I think happened back then... someone had taken the picture of Mary Hopkin from the page so I undid the change and put the picture back up, giving the ref of Mary's website as permission to use the picture. this whole wiki site is a complete bureaucratic waste of time. If there were not so many 'idiots' vandalising the page with sick comments I wouldnt bother visiting it to make changes.. I don't know what happened a year ago at the "Mary Hopkin" article. It might have been that the photograph of Hopkin was removed because of vandalism. On the other hand, it could also have been removed because the image had not been freely licensed for use on Wikipedia. This is not a "bureaucratic waste of time". Wikipedia respects people's copyright; an editor cannot simply take an image from another website and use it in Wikipedia. Merely saying that the image was taken from Mary's website is not enough. There has to be some evidence that the owner of the image allows it to be freely used on other websites for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Look at it this way – if you had taken photographs and put them on your personal website or on a photo-sharing site such as Flickr, would you be happy if other people downloaded them and used them for their own purposes without your permission? — Cheers, JackLee ^–talk– 06:57, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

WP:Hornbook -- a new law-related task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Jacklee/General: 2009 archive,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

Each casebook will have a subpage.

Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.

I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.

2. If you're a law student,

Email http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:Hornbook to your classmates, and tell them to do the same.
Contact me directly via talk page or email about coordinating a chapter of "Student WP:Hornbook Editors" at your own school.

(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)

3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Hi, if you note from the image description page, the file is not orphaned. It does not appear as an image in any article, but it is cited in a footnote in the article "John McFall (athlete)" as a reference. If you want to get more input, I'd gladly take this to WP:NFCR. With that said, there is no obligation to upload sources, especially when they are not free. Just because something is not available online doesn't mean we can't cite it. We don't upload books or newspaper articles that we cite, I don't see how this is any different. Find a way to cite the source. If the source hasn't been published before, then we can't use it here because that violate WP:NOR. Again, you can cite a souce without uploading it. We do it all the time. In fact, we simply don't upload our cited sources (and if they happen to be freely licensed, they go to wikisource, not wikipedia anyway). Hope this explains it. Yes, do take it to WP:NFCR. I realize that there is no general need to upload sources. However, a problem with sports-related articles is that the organizers, particularly of less prominent events such as disability sports competitions, don't always formally publish the results. What happened in this case was that I e-mailed the Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee to ask if the information was published anywhere. I was told it was on their website, but when I informed them that I couldn't locate it, they simply e-mailed the PDF to me. I asked if they had any objections if it was uploaded to Wikipedia and they said no, but an OTRS volunteer claims that the e-mail conversation is not quite clear enough to show that the Committee has released it to Wikipedia under a free licence. I decided to upload the file to provide a source in the article since the organizers had taken the trouble to send me the information.

If the file is determined not to be appropriate for Wikipedia, is it possible for the OTRS system to be used to verify the fact that I had a conversation with the Committee and they informed me of the information during the conversation? Speedy deletion nomination of File:UnderneaththeLintel.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:UnderneaththeLintel.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Inasmuch as this is just a text table it could be replaced by a free text table with the same information. I'm a fresh law student in Singapore, looking to help expand the Singapore law sections on Wiki for the benefit of everyone. I am an avid reader of Wikipedia but very clueless at the administrative side of it, it is very daunting even for a tech-savvy youth.
