Transport in Nevis

HEy Invertzoo. It's Jenson again. I've been pretty inactive for the whole year cos of school, but am ready to get back at updating the Saint Kitts and Nevis pages again for the summer cos i'm just frickin bored. I updated a page on transportation in St. Kitts and Nevis, but i have really little info on the Nevis side again. If you have any specifics to add please feel free to add them to the page. Thanks.

Hi Jenson Morton, OK, I had a go at adding stuff to that article and tidying it up a bit, today as you will see. I have also asked my friend on Nevis if he will look at it for me. He knows a lot more than I do. Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 14:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

Hello Invertzoo, I have 7 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Acalamari 22:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Acalamari. I figure that in the future I will want to use rollback sometimes, although so far the vandalism I have encountered has all been small stuff that was very easily remedied the normal way. Thank again and best wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 15:53, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

You're very welcome! :) Acalamari 16:00, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

This note, which I believe was from Chelydra at [1], was posted on my user page, way down inside a box that had general WP content in it. The note was not signed and I did not notice it for perhaps a week or more. I think it was sent to me on or after June 15th 2008. Invertzoo (talk) 23:13, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

"Dear Invertzoo, I couldn't find any way to contact you in response to your message, so here's this (which you should feel free to erase after reading, so it doesn't clutter up your nice page here). In response to your critique of the National Lampoon magazine page: Joe Schenkman, from about 1968 to about 1983, was pretty well-known as a cartoonist, first at Rat Subterranean News, then as part of the underground comics scene, and later at the Lampoon. I think he worked with P.J. O'Rourke on a couple of other stories in the Lampoon, aside from the one I mentioned, and for three or four years I think his work was in just about every issue (generally a page or two in the comics section). In the mid-1980's he took over a publishing company founded by his uncle Alfred Schenkman, and moved on from the cartooning world. Schenkman was never a household name — probably only R. Crumb was that — but he had a following. As for my addition to the Lampoon page: I did think it was significant that someone who started out at Rat, the most dangerously political of all the underground newspapers, did what was probably his best work collaborating with O'Rourke, at a time when O'Rourke was emerging as the smartest and funniest of the media personalities of the resurgent Right — politically (although not intellectually or culturally) fairly similar to Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, et al. The Lampoon was funny at a time when the left had (once again) lost its sense of humor — it was symptomatic of the flow of America's mental and emotional energy from left to right. Of course the Lampoon never consciously set out to proclaim any kind of Right-wing agenda; it just happened. But it was no less significant for that. And it should be mentioned in the Lampoon article. I thought the use of Schenkman as an example saved this from being merely a vague assertion."

Hi again — I'd rather discuss gastropods with you at this point, but just to lay this Schenkman thing to rest finally, I wanted to mention that he was listed on the masthead as a contributing editor for several years. Hope you're well, and keep up the good work!Chelydra (talk) 17:35, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of articles you create yourself.

From Chelydra about Schenkman

Hi again — I still can't figure out where messages are supposed to go, so hope you get this.

Schenkman was involved with the Lampoon for 4-7 years I guess. He got me into doing some work at Marvel circa 1981-82, and I think that would have been around the mid-point of his time at the Lampoon. He was listed as Contributing Editor on the masthead for at least three years (not sure of the dates). Some time around 1983-85 or so he turned over a new leaf and got away from the depravity of cartoons and of life in NYC, took over his uncle's business (Schenkman Books), started a family, and is now also involved in teaching and school administration. Chelydra (talk) 17:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi again! Yes, you got the place right for your message this time, on the discussion page/talk page of my user page, the only thing is, it helps (when you start a new "conversation") to give it a heading so it doesn't look like it is just part of the previous message on the page. Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it. I had thought it must have been during the 80s. I will save the info onto the talk page of the Lampoon article and then I will add it in when there is a suitable place for it to go in the article. Invertzoo (talk) 19:38, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

In retrospect, Schenkman's most noteworthy work was probably on the covers and inside pages of Rat Subterranean News — he did about as much cartooning there as the rest of us put together, at a time when Rat was itself in the news due to mad bombers on the staff and such. At Rat, he was William Burroughs' preferred illustrator, and he helped inspire Robin Morgan's famous essay "Good-Bye to All That" ("that" specifically included cartoonists) when the Womens International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell (W.I.T.C.H.) and its more militant allies took over the paper. Later, while at the Lampoon, Schenkman moonlighted at High Times, doing the world's only published sociological research on the glue-sniffing subculture — he didn't indulge, just did a lot of interviews. As for his broader cultural influence, he had a life-long obsession with the dark, sleazy side of 'fifties, starting while that decade was still going on, and was in the vanguard of the Retro aesthetic (if that's not too much of a contradiction), at least within the 'sixties counterculture. That, along with the nihilist, black, cheerfully crude style of his art, possibly helped sow some seeds that sprouted in Punk zeitgeist a few years later. Schenkman was never a creative genius like R. Crumb — none of us were — but he was at least as original as Crumb. Schenkman's own unique cartooning style didn't evolve all that much after 1963, and twenty years later it was still way more than adequate for his purposes, and for P.J. O'Rourke's purposes. If you dig through your old Lampoons, I guarantee you won't find any better cartoons than Schenkman's — others are more refined, and more artsy, but they're not better. This concludes my contributions to the field of Schenkmanology. If it convinces you to restore that mention of Schenkman in the Lampoon article sooner rather than later, that would be nice. If not, so be it. Peace. Chelydra (talk) 01:07, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Your edit in Pearl

Regarding this edit, the taxobox is needed only in article which are about animals. Since pearl is not animal, the taxobox is inappropriate in this article. Do not add it. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 19:02, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh OK, I thought that since a pearl is an animal product, a taxobox might be useful. Sorry. Invertzoo (talk) 19:06, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

For details, you can see Taxobox#Taxoboxes and Wikipedia:Taxobox usage. Per Wikipedia:Taxobox usage, taxobox is a table setting out the Biological classification (taxonomy) for a group of living things. It should be used only in articles about living organisms, not in any other articles including articles about animal products. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 19:09, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

OK, I will read those carefully. Invertzoo (talk) 19:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
