Thanks for the headsup

Hi., Thanks for the headsup. I closed both the GANs today. --Kalyan 10:13, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Give it a few days and wait for his return from wikibreak. If he didn't respond then take it off. OhanaUnitedTalk page 16:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi LaraLove, While the user seems to have returned from his hiatus, he did not yet address all of the points, so I've failed it. Teh entry is close to GA quality though, and I said as much on the Talk. Cheers, TewfikTalk 17:58, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

(I'll reply here since I was rather slow getting back to you.) I think you have a point, and there could be more to say about the history and the buildings. How are they located with respect to the Chicago River and the canal? I remember seeing some of these buildings on an "architectural boat cruise" some time ago, and being very impressed. A map of the area would be a helpful addition. Also is this just Michigan avenue, or also some side streets and plazas? The relations between some of the buildings might be notable. Were there any controversies over any of the constructions?

Apart from that, I found the prose a bit choppy: short sentences, changes of pace, things like that. The opening sentence of the history paragraph is a bit of a surprise, for example. The lead is a bit weak too, and the large image is awkwardly placed on a wide window.

I don't think it is far from GA though: there is no reason why an article on this subject needs to be much longer than this. I hope that helps. Geometry guy 18:52, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I am getting really confused, and so have de-listed it from all lists concerning Good Articles Chaza93 19:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

OK Thank you

Can you take a look at the parapsychology article for me and give me your opinion, fixing whatever problems you see? I along with a few others recently spent a while rewriting the entire article in lieu of recent edit wars and arbitration and I believe we've made great progress. I'd appreciate if you could review it for us. THanks. Wikidudeman (talk) 23:17, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you take a look at it anytime soon? Wikidudeman (talk) 12:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, Wikidudeman. It's on my to-do list. I'll get to it as soon as I can. LaraLove 12:54, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay, here's what I've found so far:
  • References need to be consistently formatted. From what I've seen, the appropriate order of information is: Author (publish date). "Title". Publication, #pp. Access/retrieval date. The page numbers being filled in where appropriate and access or retrieval date for those references that include a url. Of course, not all information will be always available for every field.
  • I believe (U.S.) and (UK) should be placed after United States and United Kingdom, respectively.
  • It's needs to be copy-edited, mostly for comma placement. I've done some, but will have to continue later. It's about time to go to work and I have to feed my son first, so I'll pick up with this tonight. Regards, LaraLove 19:43, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Let's get started!

Okay, I've set up your coaching page at the VC. For your convenience a link is included to your coaching page, along with links for the other students' coaching pages, on the VC lessons template (above). And I've just posted your first assignment on your page.

Also, be sure to drop in on the other student's pages - everyone is welcome to participate in each discussion. We're all students and coaches at the same time, really, as everyone has experience that would be helpful to others. So please join in on the fun. We used to do all this on one page, but the page became too HUGE! :-) So check out all the links, and don't be a stranger.

And above all, have fun.

The Transhumanist    03:25, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Nordic theory

Lara, could you please indicate what you mean when you say that the citations are not "correctly formated". It appears from WP:CITE that no single format is required - at least regarding templates ("The use of Citation templates is not required by WP:CITE and is neither encouraged nor discouraged by any other Wikipedia citation guidelines."). Some notes seem to be incomplete, which I will fix when I have time, but I am unclear what you mean by format. You also say that they should be consistent, but again there appears to be no such rule in WP:CITE. The only reference to consistency occurs when there is a comment about whether notes should appear before or after a full-stop.Paul B 08:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, of course I am aware that an article should have footnotes, so there is no need to quote the line that citation "is best done through footnotes" (or Harvard). The second point is a recommendation. However, the query concerned the question of what "correctly formatted" means. Paul B 14:02, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Sure, Thanks for offering my page...Im horrible at that kind of stuff so if you think you can fix it up plz be my guest lol Vandalfighter101 17:05, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

btw...what did you mean when you said overload?Vandalfighter101 17:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I said "overhaul", as in completely redo it. LaraLove 17:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
ahh see overhaul makes much more sense...and its all up to you really. Vandalfighter101 17:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
weird qestion..how do I edit those boxes you made? lol you know..the ones with the userboxes and all that good stuff in them. Vandalfighter101 18:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

When you edit your userpage, you'll see {{User:Vandalfighter101/whatever}} <- Key in that address into the search bar (without brackets) and edit that page. LaraLove 18:06, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

k thnksVandalfighter101 18:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to take my daughter to lunch. I'll complete it in a few hours. If there is any other information you want included, either add it to the page somewhere and I'll organize it, or just put it on your talk page or here on mine. Where ever, I'll find it. LaraLove 18:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

ok im gonna make a subpage called info with the new stuff I'd like to be put on there. Vandalfighter101 18:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok im off for the night..Vandalfighter101 19:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

ok im back on Vandalfighter101 05:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm about to go to bed. I can't figure out what happened. When I left earlier today, the userbox table was all black with red around the titles. Now, all but the top one are with white backgrounds, and I can't figure out how to fix it. LaraLove 05:10, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
And I can't get the background and border to fill the entire page, as it was before I left. There's nothing in the edit history... perhaps my computer is jacked up, but nothing looks the same as I left it. Too strange! LaraLove 05:13, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Also My wikidefcon is gone Vandalfighter101 05:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

ill add the wikidefcon myself...and dont worry about it...no matter what you do it still looks great. :) Vandalfighter101 05:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
It looks great!! Much better than anything i could have done....you want your barnstar now or l8er?Vandalfighter101 15:52, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I was under the impression that another reviewer re-checked for hold status candidates for some reason - I've been away for the last 10 days, so haven't been able to check up on things. I'll look it over as soon as I get a chance tomorrow, thanks for the heads-up. Hersfold (talk/work) 04:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

reward board

Hey I noticed that you are part of the good article commity...So I present you a challenge (dun dun dun duuuuuun) It's on the reward board...its the newest thing under the tis for tat fa section...the one about geyre...I already o you a barnstar so y not add two more to your repitwo? lol btw what kind of barnstar do you want for the work you did on my page?Vandalfighter101 06:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

If I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong that's making your page look less than optimal, I don't want a barnstar. Otherwise, I'm not sure. If I get your page looking good, I'll go find one that I think is most appropriate, I suppose. LaraLove 06:37, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and regarding the new offer, I deal with GAs not FAs, there's a difference. Also, my to-do list is full. I'm actually in the process of writing a lesson on the development of GAs, which is difficult considering I've never actually done it. Not directly anyway. So my time is kind of consumed. I will, however, continue to work on your userpage. I didn't think it would be so difficult, but I'm screwing something up b/c things aren't looking the same on your page as they look on mine. LaraLove 06:40, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

If you were to quit right now I'd gv you one just for trying...I could just gv you a smily for an excuse to gv you one lol...but your choiceVandalfighter101 06:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

No, no. I've earned all my rewards. I don't want to stop earning them now. I'm going to keep working until I get it looking good. I don't want an award for a failed attempt. I'm not doing it for an award anyway. I was lead to the reward page from a VC lesson and was just checking it out when I saw your offer. I thought I could make your page nice because customizing my own page went pretty well, for the most part. It's the div tables for userboxes that screw everything up. BTW, what browser do you use? Internet Explorer, Firefox, or something else? LaraLove 06:55, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Internet explorer. Vandalfighter101 06:58, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Alright, well, what I've tried so far doesn't even work right in FF, so I know it must look horrible in IE. For that reason, I'll start over tomorrow and try something else using IE. I need to go to bed now. LaraLove 07:00, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

GA/R

Thanks for the comments on the Heian Palace GA/R. I realized too late that I had been using "indices" rather than "indexes" as the plural of "index": the more formal plural is standard in mathematics, so I used it out of habit, making my recommendation opaque at best! By the way, I noticed recently that you probably deserve another Cherry Impact Award for causing a famously terse GA reviewer (no names mentioned) to more than double the length of his recommendation! Congratulations... Geometry guy 18:00, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

ROFL!! Hey, ya know, whatever keeps the pissy custodians off our backs, right? If I can get an extra five words out of people for their reviews, just so that it gives even the slightest impression that they actually read the article (which I believe he does), then that's all I'm asking for! Haha. Ah, man... I love this place. Haha. But yea, I had no idea what indices were, then you said indexes (which, to be honest, I didn't know what that meant either), so I looked closer at the refs and realized what you were talking about. LaraLove 18:56, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, okay. No, I saw it. I should have replied, my bad. I thought this was in response to the lesson I started. I didn't think I'd finished enough to be getting the next already! :p I'm good at the current pace. My internet was down for a day, which is not uncommon for our current setup. That with my full-time job and two kids, I'm plenty busy! One assignment at a time should do me. Not to mention all the requests I get for GA and FA. And the sophomoric, prepubescent no-life that keeps harassing me. It's flattering, really. Anyway, thank you! I'll try to work on the lesson over the next couple of days. Article history

Hey you, first off, it's too late for me to establish typical conversation but I recall reading somewhere on this mammoth project that you were pushing for gacat (I think) to be filled in on the Template:ArticleHistory. I've been using the template but found no advice on the template page on how to fill the category in properly. It's a minor point but perhaps you could add some advice on there on what people should add...... minor point. And thanks for updating my adoption userbox, I plain forgot it amongst all the GA reviewing! All the very best, The Rambling Man 22:41, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Request your comments at an FAC

I have an article that I have nominated at FAC that is dying on the vine, as it were. It needs someone with a critical eye to review the article and make any notes for improvement or support as a FA Candidate. Hi LL,

Georg Cantor has been GA for a while already, but we are gonna push for FA. I just now put it in peer review.I admire your skills as a copy editor... if.. and only if... you have free time etc. and could swing by & give it a look, I would be eternally grateful. But it's also OK if you can't! :-)

Hello there. I was wondering if you could copyedit Goldfinger if you have the time sometime. Yes I think that sounds a teeny bit silly too "time sometime". It recently passed GA and I opened up a peer review as well. Hope you can help! Cliff smith 20:39, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Ga sorting

Regarding the GA sorting project, which I've started working on. Do you consider it important to fill in the oldid field? If so, it's the id of version of the article that got promoted, not the version of the talk page, right? Is there any trick to this, or is it just the obvious - hunt for version of talk page that mentions GA promotion, then find article version that existed just before promotion? ike9898 16:25, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you should include the oldid, and do it just how you stated there. Check the talk page and find the date it was promoted, then go to article history and find the version from that day or (as it is in some cases) if there were no edits to the article that day, the last edit previous to that date. Your warning to me

Self censorship is not grounds for blocking someone on Wikipedia, and since Wikipedia does not have ownership to anything I post, I can delete anything I write, even if it is on an article's discussion page (personal discussion pages are not included). Wikipedia simply frowns upon the action. Please take this into consideration before threatening to block me. Thanks. Spuddy 17 22:58, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

It's a template with a generic statement. You've been warned before. Warning templates are supposed to be used in sequence, which I did. Just because you delete a warning, which you're not supposed to do, doesn't mean it goes away. If one user warns another for something not blockable, I'm sure the admin would take that into account when determining if a user should be blocked or not. LaraLove 03:26, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey Lara, how's it going? I'm going to review Maroon 5 for GA but I was wondering if you could just add the relevant copyright information to the above image as specified in the tag : "You must also give the source and copyright information for all fair-use images uploaded." I realise you didn't upload it yourself but for the fair-use rationale to apply we need to provide this information. All the best, The Rambling Man 11:53, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Article has now been reviewed - I've placed it on hold with comments on the talk page. Cheers, The Rambling Man 12:32, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey Lara,

Thanks for giving this article a good critique... you're great. Also, I don't know if you noticed it, but the date that you entered for as the retreived date is wrong. You were putting in tomorrow date. So User:2005 reverted those changes as 'false dates.' If you are looking at things, then you need to go back and put todays date in there... otherwise I can add the date I looked them up...Balloonman 21:50, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Bah, my husband reformatted the computer and apparently set the date wrong. My bad. Hope the bank caught that mistake today. :/ Anyway, the review is up. Let me know if you have any questions or disagree with any of my recommendations. Lara♥Love 22:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I will but it won't be until this weekend that I get back to it... I appreciate your looking at it... I can't review my own work for beans ;-) Balloonman 18:02, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, me either. I review articles everyday, but I can't review ones I've done a lot of work on. Lara♥Love 04:13, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

But we do speedy archive based on votes

It was 6 to 1, but the most recent vote definently was not a week old. Homestarmy 04:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Yea, the archiving was fine. We just don't tally votes anymore. So rather than 6-1 or whatever, just put what the consensus was. I changed it. There was the consensus that it's not a vote, and such results give that impression. Lara♥Love 04:20, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
But I wouldn't of archived it if the percentage of votes for keep wern't at least 80 percent of the total votes. Homestarmy 04:31, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay, here's what I'm saying, the procedure for archiving has changed. We don't tally votes anymore. We weigh arguments. For example, the one oppose vote was no longer valid as the concerns of that recommendation had been addressed. So rather than say it was a 6-1 decision, I wrote out that the lack of a production section was the only major concern and it was corrected, blah blah. Check out the new archiving instructions near the top of the GA/R page. Lara♥Love 04:34, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
But I wasn't archiving it normally, I was going by the speedy archive rules. If it had been 4 to 1, even if I felt that the keep arguments were all rock solid and the delist was no longer valid, that wouldn't of been a very valid archive while new votes were still coming in. Homestarmy 04:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

(←)Ok, I don't really understand. By the new archiving procedure, my recommendation qualified the article to be archived (more than 3 days since nomination, at least 6 recommendations, clear consensus). So it's not a speedy archive. Regardless, we're not supposed to tally votes. That's how all the drama started to begin with. So all I'm saying is rather than say it was 6-1, or whatever it may be in any particular case, briefly explain the consensus. Lara♥Love 04:55, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

That set of rules was originally instituted with the intent of speedily removing GA/R's from the page which clearly were going to end a certain way irregardless of whether more time was spent on it, hence, a speedy archive. Besides, I said on the article talk page what happened, I always post a summary of GA/R's whenever it changes an article's status. Homestarmy 17:56, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that's fine. It's moot now anyway. I added a summary. It's all good. Lara♥Love 18:19, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Follow up on Gacat

Hi, LaraLove. Some good people have told me I should have "met" you long ago; I don't know how we've managed to never cross paths before :-) Both Dr pda and Gimmetrow have had limited time on Wiki lately, but now they've both focused on the articlehistory errors I mentioned, so I think progress will be made. My original description of the problems wasn't at all clear, so I've posted a follow up at the articlehistory talk page. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:02, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Sandy. Who are these people, pray tell? Haha.
I've replied to you there. I noted some of the lengthy list of changes needed with the GA project there, but would also like to add that if you have any further suggestions for improvement, please let them be known. We certainly appreciate feedback (that's basically the whole point of our project :p) and will certainly do what we can to make things easier for you and Gimmetrow and Gimmebot. Lara♥Love 18:23, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Pray tell :) Both Gimmetrow and Dr pda are pretty tied up these days, but I'm confident it will get worked out. In the meantime, I'll continue checking the error category; really, I can keep up with them myself for now, since your computer balks at scripts. Unusual Adoption Request

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

1 mistake in 500 fact tags isn't a bad ratio

I messed it up :( The ratio was actually perfect. I feel like Scottie in Boogie Nights when he tried to kiss Dirk Diggler. Idiot! Laters. the_undertow talk 03:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Don't ya think the number of fact tags is a little ridiculous? That's what article and section templates are for, ya know. Lara♥Love 04:02, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes I do. I think my summary showed my dismay. the_undertow talk 04:11, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
This article is giving me a headache. Lara♥Love 04:12, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

About GA review

Hi Lara,

Saw your post on GAC re barnstars. Just to inform you that my names is Ashwin, a male name in India. Being a linux enthusiast, my handle is what my friends call me - AshLin rather than Ashwin so that the 'win' (recalling windows) doesnt offend their sensibilities. :-) Regards, AshLin 06:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, my apologies. Ashlyn is a female name here in the States. I thought AshLin was just a twist on the spelling, or perhaps a foreign variation. Thanks for letting me know! Lara♥Love 14:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

G-guy leaving the encyclopedia...

Smile

HI, if you have a chance, would you look at Cantor's FAC? Thanks! Ling.Nut 02:50, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the review — umm, did you think it was FA-worthy? thanks again Ling.Nut 10:55, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
I didn't finish the review. I won't support or oppose until then end. I'm treating it kind of like a GAC on hold. Lara♥Love 01:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I just added a long paragraph which I'm sure isn't up to your CE standards :-) but it's in the section you haven't seen yet... A million thanks!! Ling.Nut 01:15, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

GA review on Byzantium under the Komnenoi postponement

Thanks Lara - I have not actually reviewed the article at all yet (beyond checking that it's not a quick-fail). When I went there to review it was clearly being copyedited, and the editors have said this will be finished this week. I thought the 'on hold' template was only for articles that were pending a copyedit following an intial review, but I can use it here if you like to clear up the ambiguity... although I did consider delisting it and waiting for a re-nom; maybe that would have been better? Regards EyeSereneTALK 07:43, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying that Lara - I'll know next time. I won't change anything now as I've already come to an arrangement with the editors, but if nothing's settled by midweek I'll go ahead and delist then.
If you don't mind, I have a question regarding sourcing: how much is enough for GA standard in your opinion? This is the most ambiguous of the criteria as I see it, and one I know is applied unevenly. What I've been trying to go by for a pass is: inclusion of cites for statements that need them (eg quotes, opinions, analysis etc), and enough sourcing for the rest so that it doesn't look like OR... but I'd appreciate your views ;) EyeSereneTALK 14:10, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
It looks like I'm on the right lines then, although I'm being fairly selective about what I review at the moment (since each article type, like biographies, seems to require a specific interperation of the criteria). Thank you yet again for the advice - it's appreciated as always ;) EyeSereneTALK 14:41, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Hi, LaraLove, and thanks for your participation in my RfA. I've withdrawn it, and will be writing up an "analysis" of it, which will soon be available at User:Giggy/RfA/Giggy when it's done. Please come around when you get the chance, and give me feedback on how I can improve. Thanks again, Giggy UCP 04:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Next time, maybe! Lara♥Love 16:38, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
