Ciao! I am an experienced (hope so!) editor here... everything you need, ask me. I usually edit articles about Italian arguments (especially history and art, but also some geography or literature ones). As for your name, it funnied me as t contains a mistake (although maybe you added it voluntarily). In Italian, it would be "Lo studioso"; in Neapolitan, "'O studioso". ü - üü

Hi, I'm replying to the comment you left on the wiki in Lumbard (thanks, by the way). We are (though veeery slowly) beginning to develop a unified orthography, at least for each of the two main varieties (eastern and western Lombard), and that is indeed important. The letter "ü" represents a Close front rounded vowel, like the German "ü", o the French "u". The difference between single and double is mostly grammatical (rather than phonological) in that the double vowel indicates a participial. So, vendüü = "venduto"/"sold", vegnüü = "venuto"/"come", etc. This happens with all double vowels. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your interest. Hi, thanks for your reply (and for having a go at writing in Lombard...). Yes, you are absolutely right, the double vowels at the end of a word always carry stress. I'm not sure what you mean by "in Italian may be "vendù"; the translation of "vendüü" would be "venduto", though perhaps you are talking about a "hypothetical correspondence" rather than a translation. Thanks for the suggestion wrt Manx. We are kind of trying to keep the local names as much as possible, though the article also mentions "Mannès" as an alternative name. I actually liked "Il Studioso" and the way in which it plays with Italian phonology. Just one (pedantic) comment; "Il" instead of "lo" would be a phonological (not a grammatical) error, as the distribution of the two depends on sounds, not on syntactic environments. The "Унитэциле Aдминистративе..." is a term of the modern government of Moldova. It is never written in Cyrillic because Cyrillic is not used on the right bank of Dniester and the name itself is anathema on the left bank. --Illythr (talk) 01:14, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps the above is a bit unclear. "Unităţile Administrativ-Teritoriale din Stînga Nistrului" is a name given by the Moldovan governmental structures to a region that vaguely corresponds with Transnistria. It is not a local name. Therefore, transliterating it into Cyrillic is about as pointless as adding "Зи Юнайтед Стэйтс оф Эмерика" to the corresponding article.

As for the other names - not really: this is the English Wikipedia, so places should be referred to only by their established English names. In the articles about those places, however, local names should generally be mentioned as well. --Illythr (talk) 03:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
