Canning

Given the Defence Veterans Party has only been registered for two months, I don't think there are any elections they could have stood for! Not sure whether it's worth mentioning how new the party is in the article though. Frickeg (talk) 03:46, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

I think the party's been around (though unregistered) since the middle of last year, so I wasn't sure if any of them had stood as independents at the state elections or anything. If this is their first election, it's probably only worth mentioning if it gets brought up elsewhere. IgnorantArmies (talk) 04:10, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

1881 or 1882?

Before I go searching Trove or my personal library, do you recall why you moved the Unions article to Fremantle Football Club (1881–1899) and not Fremantle Football Club (1882–1899)? The article doesn't mention 1881 at all. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 15:39, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

I have no idea, I guess it might just be a typo. There's nothing about the club on Trove earlier than 1882. IgnorantArmies (talk) 04:33, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

ICC Division Six

Nice work on all the minor cricket tour articles. Do you have anymore info on the issues with Saudi Arabia not making it to England for the Division Six tournament? Thanks? Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 09:01, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Ditto with all of your contributions. This is the only Wikipedia-grade source I can find on why Saudi Arabia isn't playing any of its matches, but it's not much help. I've found out a little bit more through various social media sites, although there's a lot of conflicting information going around – the Saudi Arabians seem to have been collectively denied visas, but there's some suggestion that they still have a chance of competing. I don't see how that could be possible given the limited timespan involved, especially given their Cayman Islands fixture has also now been cancelled. @Andrew nixon: might know a little more, but I don't know how active he is here anymore. IgnorantArmies (talk) 11:12, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I like the paradox that they could finish above Norway and the Cayman Islands on NRR without playing a game! :D Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:26, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
It's in the latest press release that they've had to pull out due to not getting visas in time. So their group becomes a 3 team group. Andrew nixon (talk) 21:42, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Andrew. Very poor from all involved. IgnorantArmies (talk) 03:08, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Massacre and Australian Frontier warfare

Australian Frontier warfare is not seriously up for any debate among scholars, simply because it was called and classified as "war" in documents by contemporary authorities as well as during colonial parliamentary debates (Queensland in particular - and Queensland is the post important state in this respect). The only reason why it is denied today is - political. If you wish to remove classify this as POV you need scholary work to support your argument and this scholary work does not exist

As for massacres well definition is clear - if small pox was used deliberately (it was in the US so the possibility cannot be excluded in Aus) then it does constitute massacre

massacre ˈmasəkə/Submit noun 1. an indiscriminate and brutal slaughter of many people. "reports of massacres by government troops" synonyms: slaughter, wholesale slaughter, mass slaughter, wholesale killing, indiscriminate killing; More verb 1. deliberately and brutally kill (many people). "thousands were brutally massacred by soldiers" synonyms: slaughter, butcher, murder, kill, annihilate, exterminate, execute, liquidate, eliminate, destroy, decimate, kill off, wipe out, mow down, cut down, cut to pieces, put to the sword, put to death, send to the gas chambers; literaryslay "thousands were brutally massacred by the soldiers"

Bisexuality

From what I've read; Bisexuality isn't something that goes away. Obviously sexuality is fluid, a Bisexual can be attracted to men one day/week/month/year and the next day/week/month/year they're attracted to women. From Hitch's own words, he said his looks became so bad that only women would date him (sexual orientation is defined by the ability to be attracted to certain genders; not by behavior). Guayana Esequiba corrections

Please be thankful not change the subject, the corrections made to the page are not personal comments, the article suggests you also violates the rules of neutrality because that territory is not Guyanese, read a little history — Preceding unsigned comment added by Essence750 (talkcontribs) 02:23, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Guayana Esequiba corrections

Venezuela contains the titles given sovereignty over that territory was invaded by the British under the treaty of Uti possidetis juris in 1811, when the great Colombia gained its independence the territory Essequibo also added there, at that time there Guiana Dutch and Spanish Guiana, French and Portuguese, British Guiana came with the occupation of the territory that is east of the Essequibo river, but due to the weakness of Venezuela due to wars and the separation of the Great Colombia the British raided adding in Venezuelan territory as its territory, when Guyana is granted independence, Britain, Venezuela and the recent Guyanese republic signed the Geneva Agreement of 1966 recognizing Venezuela's claim that territory — Preceding unsigned comment added by Essence750 (talkcontribs) 04:00, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi IgnorantArmies. What's with the reverts without edit summaries? --NeilN talk to me 03:32, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

@NeilN: Hi Neil, Essence750 is about the third editor to be blatantly pushing a Venezuelan POV on Guyana-related articles over the past few months. I would be very surprised if they weren't all the same person, and that's the assumption I've been operating under. I and other editors have tried to engage them using edit summaries and talk pages, etc., but I think when you're dealing with such blatant POV pushing and just downright sneaky editing (disingenuous edit summaries, changing maps, trying to eliminate mentions of Guyana), it's time to implement WP:DENY. They seem to have stopped edit-warring at least, so I didn't see a need to go to WP:EWN. I'm normally not so hardline, and if Essence750 comes up with legitimate neutrality complaints about the article I'd happily step back. IgnorantArmies (talk) 03:59, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
You should open an SPI if you suspect socking. And it's probably in your best interest to provide edit summaries and/or a note on the talk page lest an admin who's not paying attention decides it's a standard edit war and blocks you both. --NeilN talk to me 04:09, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. I'm normally quite good with new editors (IPs or otherwise), even when they're disruptive, but I'm sure you understand how frustrating it can be. IgnorantArmies (talk) 07:42, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Elizabeth II

IgnorantArmies- You recently commented in an RfC at Talk:Elizabeth II. Unfortunately, the wording of the RfC when first posted did not properly outline the actual issues in dispute. The opening statement of the RfC has since been revised. If that change leads you do a different conclusion, please alter your remarks at the RfC. Thanks. --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 17:03, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. As much as we're all keen on getting the correct wording, I'm afraid the Elizabeth II talkpage has become a prime candidate for WP:LAME, so I don't think I'll be participating much further. IgnorantArmies (talk) 17:11, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Question about your upload to File:Greececr.gif

I noticed that you uploaded a new version of File:Greececr.gif by replacing the white space with transparent space. Just wondering ... the image you uploaded, is it a "*.gif" file? I don't recall any GIF files being compatible with transparent space. Steel1943 (talk) 22:19, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a bit strange – I never thought you could make GIFs trans transparent either, but apparently you can. Just looking into it now, our GIF article suggests transparency has been a feature almost since the beginning. I guess it's something that doesn't get done often because not many people know about it. (By the way, I'm not even using Photoshop or anything, just the basic Mac editor). Non-free rationale for File:Albert Hawke (uncropped).jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Albert Hawke (uncropped).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Hi IA. As you probably know, Australia have pulled out of this and could be replaced by Ireland. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 09:40, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Yep, found out through one of your edit summaries funnily enough, cheers for the heads-up though. Cricket Australia should really pay compensation to Bangladesh or the ICC, can't have teams dropping out of tournaments a couple weeks before. IgnorantArmies (talk) 12:35, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
No problem. On an unrelated note, I've seen the innings report scorecards on 2015–16 Regional Super50 are a lot more compact. Never thought of this idea before - neat! I've been put off doing the pages for the domestic T20 in India with the full scorecards and never thought about just reducing them and maybe using the full one for the final stages. Your comment on my talk page

I commented on WikiProject Cricket two days ago, and received no reply; so unless someone replies and we have a debate, I don't see how it's wrong for me to add it back in. If only one person doesn't wish to have it, and the rest are ambivalent, then the onus is on him to continue the debate and reply to my comments, as I have already stated my position numerous times.

In any case, I have removed the nicknames section, but mentioned some relevant remarks in the main article. The opposition was only ever to the nicknames section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.248.68.27 (talk) 01:28, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Martin Crowe batting.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Martin Crowe batting.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 22:39, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

FYI

Hello IA. Last November you made this edit. I wanted to let you know that the article 2018 Asia Cup has been recreated over the redirect. I don't know if the new editor has anything to do with the one that you are warning in the edit summary. There is one source that mentions that the event is going to happen but it still may be a bit too early for a full fledged article. If you have the time would you please take a look at it and change it back or leave it as is at your discretion. Thank you for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 21:53, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi @MarnetteD, thanks for your note. I assume it was re-created because the current tournament has just ended. It's common to have articles on upcoming sporting events several years in advance, and the re-created article looks fine to me. I don't think the editor who re-created the article is associated with the original creator (who had a case of WP:NOTHERE). Thanks, IgnorantArmies (talk) 04:25, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks so much for checking on this. I really appreciate your filling me in as to the particulars in this situation. Cheers and enjoy the week ahead. MarnetteD|Talk 06:06, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Need Help

Hello IgnorantArmies ! I have noted that you recently edited ICC World T20 2007 2-3 times so I wanted you to edit it once again by investigating about the following : India has been placed at the top of the points table in group D of the tournament. At the same time , the " Rules and Regulations " subtopic of the page lays the following criteria that if two teams finish the group stage having same number of points and same number of wins , team having greater net run rate stands at the top. As it can be seen Pakistan having NRR of +1.275 should be at the first place and not the India ( NRR: 0.00) . Also, it's not mentioned that team with less number of losses should be given priority over that with higher NRR. So either of the two sections of the page needs to be edited. Kindly help. AnandRamrakhyani777 (talk) 16:53, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

@AnandRamrakhyani777, I think you overlooked something! India finished with 3 points and Pakistan with 2 points (the India–Scotland game was abandoned, so India also got a point from that game). Sorry you went to all that trouble, please let me know if you have any other concerns :-) IgnorantArmies (talk) 16:58, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

A big thanks.

It is really very nice of you and of wikipedia to help me clear my doubt. Feeling great to join the Wikipedia community. Actually I would want to raise one more issue this time. Could you please check the page of umpire S.Ravi. It is filled with highly abusive language ( probably I would have edited it until you read this but I would want you to check the article's history and do some more edits ) . I would like to ask about the ways such users ( who edit wikipedia articles for expressing their anger or whatsoever reasons) can be reported about as wikipedia is a highly reputed organization known for providing accurate and unbiased informations. Once again thank you very much for your guidance and sorry if I seem to be a novice as I really am.... AnandRamrakhyani777 (talk) 19:44, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi IA,

Many thanks for your patient and coherent explanations on the Christopher Allen AfD. As I mentioned, WP:CRIN was as clear to me as Marmite! But I saw all the new cricketer BLPs which a relatively new user had created in a very short amount of time, before vanishing into the ether; and I suppose my Spidey senses got to tingling. We didn't discuss the others. But if you'd care to have a look, I trust you'll proceed accordingly should you encounter any causes for concern. In any event, mea culpa. ICC_World_Twenty20#Performance_of_teams

ICC_World_Twenty20#Performance_of_teams, the order was stated at the bottom as Sort table by no. of matches played, no. of wins, no. of losses, then win%. Because, a team which plays less matches can have more win% though it exits in every world cup, withour reaching final. That's the reason I've preferred more matches. More matches can only be played if it reaches semis or finals, then sorting per win% is good. Else, even small teams who exited the group plays less matches and has more win%. If you want to change its upto you. Thanks.--Vin09(talk) 06:39, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

@Swpb: I was modeling the category on Category:American people of Basque descent, so I assumed the French and Spanish categories were standard for that category tree. l'm well aware that the Basques are a distinct people, so I've got no objection to the removal of the categories. It might be worth going through Category:People of Basque descent to see if there are any other subcategories that need changing. IgnorantArmies (talk) 03:41, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I've done so. While the categories are understandable, I think the fact that the Basque country includes parts of Spain and France (and that many Basques are adamantly nationalistic in their own right) means it is strictly inaccurate to make Basque people a sub-category of either nation's people. —swpbT 13:30, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Frederick Ballantyne

On 3 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frederick Ballantyne, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Sir Frederick Ballantyne, a cardiologist and the Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was the first in his family to attend high school? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Frederick Ballantyne. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Frederick Ballantyne), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
