From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Enhydra Server, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Enhydra Server is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Enhydra Server, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 21:20, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I responded on the article's talk page. I was ready to change the speedy to a notability tag, but I just don't see evidence that the subject has recieved any substantial media coverage or in any way demonstrates notability. Let me know if there's something I'm missing. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:20, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Enhydra Server has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article is about non-notable Java application. GNews has zero hits.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Inniverse (talk) 02:57, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the {{dated prod}} notice and explained why on the article's talk page. — HowardBGolden (talk) 09:17, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Enhydra Server, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Enhydra Server. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Inniverse (talk) 13:58, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Hey, this is Brandon of the SUIT Framework project. Thanks for coming to it's articles defense. Blanchardb still hasn't responded to your claims. I'm just wondering, when will we know if SUIT has been denied for deletion? I'm not so sure how the process works. BrandMan211 (talk) 15:29, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Check the deletion policy and guidelines. Normally, there is a 7 day period to collect votes. However, if there weren't many votes or a consensus, this period would be extended. I'm no expert at this process. I'm struggling with it myself. — HowardBGolden (talk) 02:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have relisted the above AfD, as the nominator withdrew their nomination. However, you had left a comment, and so your response would be useful, about whether the article should be kept or deleted. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 14:48, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

External links in deletion discussions[edit]

Because AfD pages are transcluded, and many of them on the same page, a separate references section in them, like you just did, is not practical. The proper way to add an external link in a deletion discussion is to insert it directly into your text, like this: [http://www.example.com]. It will appear in your intervention like this: [1].

I took the liberty of reformatting your entry to correct this problem. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 20:36, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alternately, if you want the full URL to be displayed, you can omit the brackets. The Mediawiki software automatically recognizes them. So an external link would be displayed like this: http://www.example.com. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 20:39, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reformatting. I'll follow your advice in any future links. — Regards, HowardBGolden (talk) 20:54, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, HowardBGolden. You have new messages at Codehydro's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Please refrain from personal attacks.[edit]

In AFD discussions, please refrain from impugning the motives of your other editors, as you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Duquesne University Press.--GrapedApe (talk) 14:14, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Respectfully, I certainly didn't intend to impugn your motives, nor do I believe I did so. Please reread what I wrote. I'm questioning your authority (by which I mean special expertise) to declare a press as non-notable. If you are an expert, I will defer to your evaluation, but otherwise I believe that I am justified in asking about your POV. In all this, I don't infer any motive. I apologize for any offense you have taken. — HowardBGolden (talk) 16:49, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see that you have <200 edits on Wikipedia, so you are probably unfamiliar with how an AFD works. In order for an article to be maintained as an independent article, it must establish "notability." I nominated the article for deletion because it didn't establish notability. Anyone's "POV" or "expertise" is irrelevant to the question about whether the subject of the article in notable.--GrapedApe (talk) 19:11, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Here's my concern: Notability doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's always "notability to whom?" Making a claim of "not notable" is necessarily a POV claim. Therefore, it requires knowing who says it's not notable and why. In court, opinions aren't admitted unless the witness is an "expert." I think the same rationale applies on WP. For a dose of humility, I recommend (to everyone including myself, not you in particular) reading this article (aka "Lake Wobegon Effect") — Respectfully, HowardBGolden (talk) 19:55, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • You have a fundamental misunderstanding of Wikipedia's system of consensus. No one is an expert here, and everyone's arguments are evaluated on their content, rather than on any perceived expertise. For a dose of humility, I'd recommend ( to everyone, including myself) a read through Argument from authority.--GrapedApe (talk) 20:02, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the AfD is Keep, time to move the page? I propose Megaphone (software), quite WP:NAME to me (and dab). -DePiep (talk) 18:09, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK with me. One other possible name is "Internet Megaphone (software)" since that was also used to describe it. Do what you think best. — HowardBGolden (talk) 18:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I recoiled, because they use two (or more) names for this thing. I could download it, and then see the "about" box or so, but that is not allowed by my webmanager (=me) for very good reason. So I leave it alone for now. -DePiep (talk) 21:02, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Enhydra200 t200.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Enhydra200 t200.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 15:44, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Abuse of the General Notability Guideline in Deletion Discussions, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Abuse of the General Notability Guideline in Deletion Discussions and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Wikipedia:Abuse of the General Notability Guideline in Deletion Discussions during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. ASCIIn2Bme (talk) 07:28, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
