"Hello. I had an account, and due to some vandalism created by my roommates, I exercised my right to vanish and changed my username to the current one, and have retired. I use the former username for correspondence (email, etc.). As I searched google, the former username appeared in a search, as some of the comments have been preserved on another editor's user page. I would like these comments removed if possible, as they no longer link to an active account. The user appears to have a history of conflict with other editors, and I feel he is leaving these comments up to be vindictive and spiteful despite my apologies. This is the user page in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Duke53 Any help would be appreciated. Hoopsphanatic (talk) 17:28, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Posting this means that you haven't 'vanished' ... I see that you still have that odd habit of making personal attacks though. Nice.
It should be apparent NOW why I left the comments up ... it was simply a matter of time that you'd be compelled to say 'something'.
Any reasonably rational adult should realize that once you written something on the 'interwebs' it is pretty much here forever ... learn to live with it. Have a nice day! Duke53 | Talk 20:21, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hoopsphanatic, if hypothetically Duke53 were able to make a change to his user page that left the comments intact along with your former username, but simply prevented search engines from indexing the page so the comments didn't show up in search results for your username, would you regard it as an acceptable outcome? alanyst /talk/ 06:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If there were no other option, I would find that acceptable, but I have no idea why Duke53 desires to leave the comments up there in the first place. Hoopsphanatic (talk) 16:33, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ive left a proposal of my own for both sides to look at (simmilar to this though a tad different in mannor) if they would like on the disccussion section on the request for comment page (sorry terrible with links).Ottawa4ever (talk) 18:29, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I looked into this, it seems Duke has compromised with Alanysts proposal and placed the `no index` stub on his page. Which should mean that your username should no longer be visible in a search engine. Hope this helps, I dont think endorsing the rfc is necessary at this time unless im missing something or this isnt agreeable(i think you said it was okay). take care, hope to see you back editing someday :) Ottawa4ever (talk) 22:11, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - just be aware that it may take some time (days, weeks perhaps?) for the search engines to drop the page from their indexes. alanyst /talk/ 22:15, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
