Article critique[edit]

Article critique[edit]

I visited the piano page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects that I found worth commenting on: lack of information on what each piano was used for, famous musicians who played each different kind of piano, and lack of citations.

Lack of Information on The Use of Each Piano[edit]

The article, piano, on Wikipedia has lots of good information but I found myself pondering over when each type of piano was played and by what kind of people. There are several kinds of pianos. Pianos range from an organ, keyboard, stand up piano, grand piano, mini grand piano, specialized piano, and the spinet. The article explained how each type of piano worked. I found this information was not sufficient to satisfy my quest for knowledge. I would like a better understanding of each piano type, its best use, its sound, and to what type of musician it might appeal to.

Musicians Who Have Mastered Each Piano[edit]

The article had lots of amazing information on how pianos work and what the components are to playing the piano, but I noticed the writers didn’t mention any people who have mastered those components. After reading the article I was interested to see some different pianists who excelled with each kind of piano. I was left disappointed after the result of the article had not included a place for those musicians.

Lack of sources[edit]

Piano gave me a better understanding of the piano and its many different components. I noticed as I was acquiring this information, the material wasn’t backed up by any citations. Though all of the information seemed to be true, it was not supported by verifiable sources.

Summary[edit]

The article I read was intriguing and captured the reader’s attention. Unfortunately, because it captures the reader’s attention, it allows the reader to question some of the information given. The reader is left wanting more out of the article than what it provided. Details were missing about how each different piano was used and about musicians who specialized in each style of piano. The information that was provided lacked citations by a verifiable source. If these details were present in the article, it would’ve contributed to the overall success of the article.
