14 AfDs in 24 hours in one category is too much[edit]

Can you please slow down the frequency of your Kentucky AfDs? I can't even get around to reading them all, let alone doing any research for them. I don't mind you filing AfDs, but so many in such a short time (14 articles in 24 hours!) doesn't allow anyone sufficient time to address those AfDs in any depth. Please slow down, or meter your AfD nominating and spread them out over time. Normal Op (talk) 18:22, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Normal Op: I won't nominate anymore today (my server time, not UTC). However, most of these are fairly obvious. The most recent ones (after the group with Lick in the title earlier) are mostly things that I found clear definitions of as churches. I'll try to keep the daily number much lower in the future, but since the same user created literally hundreds of Kentucky articles that are very bad (including at least two places that are actually tiny ponds), there's gonna be a bunch of them. A few of their "towns" are clearly notable streams or NRHP properties, so I've been rewriting/redirecting them. Hog Farm Bacon 18:58, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • So much for you slowing down. At this point, I'm just archiving copies of the articles. There's no way I have any time to check your 24 AfDs you have submitted. Normal Op (talk) 01:36, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Normal Op: Sorry, I got really bored today and forgot about that. I'll wait some time before I'll nominate any more. What sounds like a decent pause on these to you? I've tried to be much more thorough on the later ones, I'd gotten pretty lazy with some of them. I've got newspapers.com access through the Wikipedia Library now, so if you want me to look in there for anything look up for you, I'm willing to. I'm a person who tries to keep their word, so I feel bad about forgetting about my slowdown promise. Also will withdraw ones that you prove me wrong. I just won't nominate any more for several days and stick to more productive things, such as article writing and GA reviews. Sorry. Hog Farm Bacon 01:49, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • When I'm nominating AfDs (or PRODing) in a single subject area, I don't do any more than three at a time. Once those are closed, I'll go back to the subject area (or my "to do list") and do three more. An AfD forces people who are interested in a subject to stop what they're doing and research for your AfD, and they only have 7 days to fit it into their schedule. This particular type of research is a lot of work. I spent hours researching the 3 or so I did so far. There's no way I can do another 21 in 7 days. At this point, I've just given up because I can't keep up with your speed. I'm archiving copies of the articles you nominate for later research and possibly add notations in their respective county articles. If you had nominated, say, three for the week... then I could look at those in present time. Enjoy making the rounds of all 120 counties in Kentucky. Normal Op (talk) 02:16, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
          • @Normal Op: Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I'll wait until these mostly process through before nominating any further. I've gone through Fulton, Hickman, Carlisle, Ballard, McCracken, Graves, Calloway, Marshall, Livingston, and Trigger and am taking a pause in the middle of Lyon. Several counties did not have any really blatant ones. There's been a number or borderline ones, but I've left most of those alone. Sorry to make a mess, I'll try to stick to three or so open at one time now. Hog Farm Bacon 02:28, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
            • Thank you. :) Normal Op (talk) 03:20, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
              • @Normal Op: - Looks like a bunch of the uncontested ones are getting relisted, so it'll be quite a while until I get down to three or four open. Hog Farm Bacon 16:57, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

South west[edit]

Not exactly the same, but see the articles South Western Railway; South Western School District; South Western Highway; South Western Railway zone. These are each from a different continent - to establish common usage, including one from the US. Or South West Trains or South West Norfolk (UK Parliament constituency) or South West England (European Parliament constituency). Gog the Mild (talk) 14:56, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gog the Mild: - Well, I just learned something new. I'm from a very rural area, so, understandably, my English is a bit nonstandard. Hog Farm Bacon 15:00, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hog Farm, since getting involved in Wikipedia I have been surprised to learn that my English is also non-standard on a global scale. Gog the Mild (talk) 15:02, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Hog Farm, thanks again for your review of Bunn. It's much appreciated. If you aren't already sick of my writing and have a bit of time on your hands, I'd certainly welcome your feedback on any of my other GANs (or FAC). Ergo Sum 18:35, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ergo Sum: - I'll try to take a look at the Early FAC soon. I've got a couple longish GANs ahead of it on my queue, but I'm currently quarantined, so I've got some extra reviewing time. Hog Farm Bacon 18:40, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for listing the Hermione at GAR. I'd never heard of the Hermione before but saw it listed on WT:MILHIST so thought I would help. The article is in much better shape now after you listed it, which is what the process should absolutely be aiming for. Thanks also to Kirk! (talk · contribs) for doing all of the work on the citations. Sadly it seems to be increasingly rare these days on Wikipedia when a number of different editors come together just to improve an article for no other reason than just to improve the article. Keep up the good work! Woody (talk) 16:02, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AfD for International School of Engineering (Chulalongkorn University)[edit]

Hi. Not sure if you received the ping; I've nominated the International School of Engineering (Chulalongkorn University) article, which you previously de-PRODed due to attribution reasons, for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/International School of Engineering (Chulalongkorn University). Swains Lock[edit]

@Hog Farm: Thank you for reviewing Swains Lock. I have patterned it after Pennyfield Lock. It is a different world from 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment, but I go back and forth between the Civil War and Maryland. I have upgraded to a new OS for my Mac—and lost Microsoft Office for now. That should not affect Swains Lock. Thank you for reviewing, and hopefully it will be easier than the 18th PA. TwoScars (talk) 20:50, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TwoScars: - I think the Swains Lock one looks interesting. My goal is to visit all the NPS sites in the lower 48 in my life; I'm 80-some in. Haven't been to C&O Canal yet, maybe I'll reach Swains Lock when I hit that one. Hog Farm Bacon 02:52, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fancy another GAN[edit]

I realise that I am seriously impinging on your goodwill, but if you fancy another GAN I am trying to get all six battles of the Mercenary War to GA before the WikiCup ends. WikiCup 2020 November newsletter[edit]

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Article history cleanup mission[edit]

Hog Farm, in my quest to clean up article history templates, this one confuses me. Is there a WAR somewhere that should be included in Template:Article history? If so, I don't seem to be finding it ... Bst, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:30, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia - It's at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Mongol invasions of Vietnam, which has been dealt with by the MILHIST coordinators for the same reason it was archived super fast at FAC. This one will deal with itself: MILHIST has a bot that handles this for ACR. See here for an example of what the bot will do next time it runs. Hog Farm Bacon 15:35, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so the MilHost bot will dump it at talk, and then FACbot will work them all in when it closes the FAC ... right? ... so I will keep an eye on that page. Wow, the article was actually at three content review processes at once ? Thanks! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:39, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. The only reason that it wouldn't happen for MILHIST is if one of the other coordinators thought I was hasty (I'm a new coord, and the newest editor by far of the various coordinators). After seeing it at ACR, I was about to go slap a FAC oppose on it, but it got archived there quick. Hog Farm Bacon 15:44, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Battle of Roan's Tan Yard[edit]

On 6 November 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Battle of Roan's Tan Yard, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Battle of Roan's Tan Yard ended Missouri State Guard recruiting activities in Randolph County? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Battle of Roan's Tan Yard. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Battle of Roan's Tan Yard), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
