I noticed that you've been editing some health-related articles recently, and I don't know if that's just because I've been tagging a lot for adding links recently, or if it's a particular area of interest for you. If you like working on medicine-related articles, then I wanted to let you know that a bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. Also, since you're one of the best right now at adding links, and would you be willing to take on a slightly more complex task related to that? Category:All articles with too few wikilinks needs to be cleaned out about every couple other day right now. This just means checking each article to see whether several people have had a go at adding links, and whether it feels like enough links have been added. If it does, then please remove the banner at the top about it still needing more links. That will keep others from trying to "fix" an article that already has enough (very frustrating and confusing, especially if it's your first-ever attempt to edit). If you want, you can also click the 'thank' button on the article's history page for anyone who seems to have done the right thing. Thank you for your warm welcome and kind words. As a new editor, it's reassuring for me to hear that I'm able to make a contribution. Actually, I edit the articles under "general science" which pop into my feed and tend to select those topics which provide an opportunity to "link and learn". As a happy coincidence, most of these articles seem to be health-related. I appreciate you bringing to my attention the Wiki group who have a special interest in medical content. Congratulations on reaching that milestone! I think the next big one is at six months, when you get access to Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library (free online access to some sources that are normally WP:PAYWALLED).

Yes, I'd be happy if you could keep an eye on that category for the next few weeks. The {{underlinked}} tag usually needs to be on the page for about 24–48 hours. I usually check the article's history. A short article usually benefits from having links added (or adjusted) by a couple of people, and a longer article might benefit from up to a dozen editors, so if enough people have edited it, then I pull the tag. Even if you only check one article in the list each day, that would help keep the content fresh for people adding links. (I like to thank some of the people who added good links, but that's optional.)

In theory, Special:Homepage will start auto-detecting articles that need more links before long. When that happens, we won't have to manually tag or remove articles. WhatamIdoing (talk) 15:59, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

I was surprised by the results of a Wikimedia Foundation survey highlighted in an article on "Gender Bias on Wikipedia," stating that in 2009, only 6% of editors with more than 500 edits were female, despite Wikipedia's nearly equal female to male readership ratio. In support of minority editors, I've updated my user page as a gesture of encouragement. Yes, it's a pretty significant problem, though I'm not sure exactly how complete the data is. I think that the Double burden is one factor: we have few women, but we have even fewer mothers. Caregiving is also a factor for fathers with small children; some of my wiki-friends over the years have quit editing, or nearly quit, right around the time they send me photos of their first baby. Another factor is that online spaces tend to divide into spaces that are either dominated by women (e.g., >60% of admins are women) or that have very few women. The behaviors in the two types are different (e.g., the prevalence of Tend and befriend behaviors), and one speculates that many women might not be willing to put up with the male-dominated spaces.

If you want to make your gender more visible, then I suggest going to Special:Preferences and choosing the she/her pronouns. This is used for some automated reports. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:29, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

I wonder if you'd do me a favor. I wrote the article Pallet (shelter) after reading about it in the news. It's been updated significantly, and Leuqarte tagged it for tone problems.
