My distinction between memoirs and autobiographies is judgmental and perhaps hyper technical. I view memoirs as less comprehensive, less factual, and more atmospheric than biographical works. For that reason I think Ross' autobiographical writings are not memoirs. Indeed the Fourth Generation is more a collection of letters which interstices are filled with narrative. As for whether Ross' books could be classified as "travel" books, I would posit that they arise not from her travels, but a sense of history and place.

About line breaks (in response to your post at the Help desk)

Please do not use <br/> to start a new paragraph; instead use a blank line (i.e. two consecutive returns). Use <br/> in the rare case where you want a line break without starting a new paragraph (like for poetry). See Help:Wiki markup#Line breaks. —teb728 t c 01:39, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
