Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Hassan Janhal! Your additions to Gheba Moghols have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:31, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Sqay (Martial Art)[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Sqay (Martial Art). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Sqay. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Sqay. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. 2A01:4C8:A0:75C2:D883:E9C8:B89B:E2FE (talk) 08:14, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mubarik Ali Shan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.dawn.com/news/1639332. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Notice

The article Qataghani has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails to meet GNG criteria.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gheba Moghols moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Gheba Moghols, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 12:12, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Douldai people moved to draftspace[edit]

You recently created an article Douldai people that should not have been published the way it is currently written. To demonstrate that it satisfies WP:GNG, it requires additional in-depth discussion of the topic itself, as well as citations from reputable, independent sources. Your article has been transferred to draftspace, where you may continue working on it without too much interruption (the article title will now start with "Draft:"). Please click the "Submit your draught for review!" button at the top when you believe the page satisfies Wikipedia's general notability standard and is thus suitable for mainspace. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 12:31, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of AfC submission on Douldai people[edit]

Hello @Hassan Janhal, I noticed that you have removed the Articles for creation (AfC) submission tag from Douldai people as the page is not ready for mainspace. You should know that you can't remove the AfC tag but have to submit for review. References on your article are not verifiable as they dont have any links and also the subject does not meet with GNG criteria to stay on mainaspce. Improve the article and place proper reliable and secondary references then submit it for another review otherwise the article will be up for Articles for deletion AfD. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 14:45, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@M.Ashraf333 I apologise; I mistakenly believed that the article would be reviewed once it was moved to the article space. Also, how do I cite books? It has a lot of material about the Douldais, just like Muhammad Din Fauq's Tareekh Aqwam Poonch, however i could not find any link to the book. Hassan Janhal (talk) 15:28, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Douldai people is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Friendly suggestion[edit]

Background: The learning curve when you start editing Wikipedia is quite steep, and in the India/Pakistan/Kashmir topic area there is so much drama that special rules apply. I am an experienced editor and can help you a bit with understanding the rules of Wikipedia, but it's a bit of a minefield and I am not from the area, so I may insult you without meaning to. I apologize in advance in case I do.

The Suggestion: You are actually better off keeping your article in draftspace for the moment, where you will be allowed to work on it in peace. Your references are not in fact that impressive and it would be better if you improved them before moving the article to mainspace.

Answer to a question you asked: the instructions for citing a book are at Template:Cite book. The book does not need to be online, nor is it required that it be in English, although both would be ideal, since this is after all an English-language online space.

Bottom line: From what I have seen while trying to help Minaro123, who is also trying to write about an ethnic minority, albeit on the Ladakhi side of the line of control, the more scholarly your sources the better. You should avoid travelogues, even if they meet the usual reliable sources criteria (WP:RS). Some suggestions about doing this:

  • take a look at [scholar.google.com Google Scholar].
  • JStor will let you read 100 articles a month for free.
  • There is a link on the main page of Wikipedia called Reference Desk; they may be able to help you with finding sources.
  • The Teahouse, also linked on the Wikipedia main page, may also be able to help you with procedural questions like "how do I cite a book". I am willing to answer specific questions you may have, here. Ask the question below preceded by {{ping|Elinruby}}. This will notify me to come look here; otherwise I probably won't see the question.

Hope this helps. As an aside, "poorly referenced" is not a reason to delete an article, and I will say so at the AfD. The question is whether the topic is notable. However, notability is demonstrated through sources. If you voluntarily draftify the article you will have more time to improve those sources. Elinruby (talk) 12:40, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I truly appreciate your advice, and I'll do my best to follow it. And thank you for responding to the queries regarding book citations. Hassan Janhal (talk) 12:52, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
you are welcome. All of the above still stands, but I am about to point out that your account is too new to nominate a discretionary sanctions article for deletion. Nothing personal. I will still help you if you ask me to. Elinruby (talk) 16:55, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Elinruby: I understand, but I proposed it for deletion since I believed there were already several articles on the subject, I had no idea that it would spark an edit battle. Hassan Janhal (talk) 17:02, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you also inform me how old a user account has to be in order to request the deletion of articles and what the requirements are? Hassan Janhal (talk) 17:04, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I mentioned, there is a lot of drama in this area. I am not sure why it is happening over this particular article. I am going to refer you to the Teahouse for an answer on that, as there are several types of discretionary sanctions pages. The least restrictive though is 30 days and 500 edits. Depending on previous cases in Kashmir, it may now be higher than that. Why are you so interested in deleting articles? Elinruby (talk) 17:14, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Elinruby: I think you misunderstood me, I don't want to delete any articles, but I felt that the article Dah Hanu was superfluous given that there were already distinct articles on these two settlements. Simply editing and adding new articles to Wikipedia is all that interests me. Hassan Janhal (talk) 17:27, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't reverted back without having a final decision[edit]

Dear ,Hassan Janhal I have opted Chathatang articles because it was created by a mention of a name by any book . And second thing ,it cited a false statements like people in those area are brokpa and speaks brokskat which is not true at all . The present population of those area is populated majority with balti people and who speaks balti langauge . There were fewer brokpa in those moral and chechethang as cited in a history , however today they are not there anymore and Broskat langauge is only spoken in Ganokh village as cited by the newspaper of Pakistan. If you want to a counter answers, then please come in deletion page with reliable sources and the Adminstrator will decide . And please don't remove my deletion request without the final consequences . And your Deletion proposal is not unfair because Dha hanu means only twin valley of dha and hanu .

Thank you Minaro123 (talk) 17:32, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

the nomination of Dah Hanu us invalid, see section above Elinruby (talk) 17:38, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I am naive, but since you two are both writing about small communities along the line of control, it would seem to me that you should be able to discuss. @Minaro123: you did well to notify him, and to state your reasons. However, as I have said a couple of times today in a couple of different ways, issues with the content or the sources are not a reason to delete. If you think it is now all Balti speakers, the you need to find a more recent source than says so. @Hassan Janhal: my message to you js the same. Find some sources and discuss.
