Dude, you need to pause a second on Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in the United States[edit]

Your enthusiasm is great, and your article Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in the United States has some potential, but right now you really want to get it straightened out before you go adding more material to it:

  • There are no WP:Footnotes in the article, so we have no way of telling what is proved by what reference. Ideally each fact stated in the article should be substantiated somewhere, but we have no idea of that the way things are formatted now. The various claimed sources are simply a jumble at the bottom. I realise you had some of them mixed into the article before, but instead of being footnotes you had them formatted as in-line external links, which is generally discouraged and not really very clear either. Read the short explanation of the Footnote guideline and see how that applies to the article.
  • The article is written in a very dense and unclear way. Take a step back for a second and look at it with fresh eyes; can you read the first paragraph and come away with a clear who-what-when-why-where? Try reading WP:Lead for ideas on how an article could start out. Try looking at some other articles about immigrant communities, like Irish American to see some good article structure.
  • I take it from your editing that you're an enthusiast of Roma musicians. While that knowledge and drive is great, the way it's applied now makes the article hard to read. It comes across as one huge stack of names, which is not easy or helpful for a reader. Take a look, again, at other immigrant articles and see how it gives a few key examples, and maybe later in the article has a list of key figures.

Just a few suggestions to start with, but footnoting/sourcing should be the first priority, and then ensuring there's a nice concise introduction for the article. Right now it almost seems as if you're using the concept of Roma immigrants solely as an excuse to talk about some musicians you like, which is really not the way to go about it. The overall idea is pretty cool though, so I'm looking forward to seeing the article evolve. MatthewVanitas (talk) 04:43, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How to format footnotes[edit]

It appears you're trying to add footnotes, but the way you're trying it doesn't work. You can read the instructions at WP:Footnotes, or take a look at basically any well-developed WP article, hit "Edit" and just look and see how the article is formatted. I realise this must be frustrating starting out, but formatting references is quite easy once you get used to it.

At it's most basic, you can just type something like <ref> John Smith. ''[www.englishhistory.net/book History of England''. Acme Press, Chicago 1985.</ref> and the footnote will automatically appear in your "References" section, provided you have the {{reflist}} template added thee. Just take all your current in-line footnotes and put the <ref> and </ref> markings around them, check out how it works. We can fine-tune from there. Don't forget to use WP:Edit summaries[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks!

Click the "History" tab of the article, and note that for the other editors you can tell precisely what they did at each step in the listing because they used the Edit summaries. Please do likewise with every edit, so that folks trying to contribute to the article can track how it's evolving. Thanks! MatthewVanitas (talk) 03:55, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:John Brenkacs Hungarian Gypsy Orchestra.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Stefan2 (talk) 10:23, 15 June 2015 ( Are you saying Harvard is not qualified to identify an Expert on Hungarian Slovak Gypsies. Did you read the study, no you didn't. I will get Harvard to tell you that you are wrong. Also the picture of the Brenkacs orchestra is from the Cleveland public library and Cleveland State University which gives the right to use the picture. Do you have the copyright on this since the Cleveland Press went out of business 50 years ago. The collection was purchased and donated to the Cleveland public library. Why are you doing this now, what is your motive to take this page down.

There is much more that makes me more than qualified to be an expert on Hungarian Slovak Gypsies. What are your qualifications.

I will contest this and so will all the people involved in this. Why didn't you do some research on the Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in America, they are a huge part of Romany history as stated that it is part of a series on Roma. Second the John Brenkacs pictures are are from the Cleveland Press Collection and all the pictures are from the 1920s. You need to read copyright laws, because you are must making them up as you go along. The same is for the Gypsy Countess Verona her pictures and recordings are from 1914, again check copyright laws and if you are the copy right holder than you can contest it, but you are not. I believe this rant from this page to delete it is unfounded on the basis of lack of knowledge of Roma History. I wrote the book Gypsy Violins Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in America and most of them in the book are related to me. My grandfather is on the picture with John Brenkacs orchestra, he died in 1943, check with Columbia records to see their recording dates. You contest it without any reason other than you don't like it. Steve Piskor gypsyviolins.com

Images[edit]

I havae submitted all the the links to these pictures, I don't know why you are doing this, these pictures are public domaim, they are through, CleVeland State University, clevleand Press Collection, all these picture are verifiabel with one simple phone call which you choose not to do. These pictures are in my book "Gypsy Violins Hungarian Slovak Gypsies in America" by Steve Piskor and on my website gypsyvolins.com, they are on my facebook page and other places on the internet, look at the open society foundations picture on the wikipedia page, very simple, just look. What do I have to do to get you to stop taking my pictures down. I don't know what more to do, I will have to find some wikipedia legal help.

Hi Gypsyviolins. I was unable to find any evidence that these photos are from the Cleveland Press Collection (other than file:The John Brenkacs Hungarian Gypsy Orchestra.jpg, which I found here, where it is marked as copyright, not public domain). It's up to you, the uploader, to provide a checkable source for each upload so that the copyright status of the images can be determined. For images that were created in the United States, the images must have been published somewhere prior to 1923 (not just created prior to 1923). For unpublished works, the creator (if known) must have died before 1945. If the creator is unknown, images are protected by copyright for 120 years from date of creation. For images created in Europe, the rules are different. Sorry, but we just don't have enough information regarding original publication dates and authorship of these three images to determine their copyright status. They have to be deleted. Please stop re-uploading them. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:22, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This only happens when the subject is about Gypsies, you took all the pictures out, the people running wikipedia should be sued. I'm not an idiot.[edit]

Your accusation of me being some kind of lying idiot should be dealt with in court. I will have Clevleand State University file suit also.

We're all friend here. You don't need to sue anyone. Oaktree b (talk) 03:46, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reaching out to other editors? Who is doing this? This is the problem, too many people involved in something they don't know anything about. Many high profile people support this page, why is this happening. Gypsyviolins (talk) 22:28, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
