Use of Wikipedia user pages[edit]

A Wikipedia user page is placed at the disposal of a user for use in working constructively for the Wikipedia project. Although considerable leeway is allowed in the use of user pages, they are not the personal property of users, and there are limits to what is acceptable on them. Details can be found in the Wikipedia user page guidelines, but the following quotations from those guidelines should convey the general spirit.

  1. Your userpage is for anything that is compatible with the Wikipedia project. It is a mistake to think of it as a homepage: Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site. Instead, think of it as a way of organizing the work that you are doing on the articles in Wikipedia, and also a way of helping other editors to understand those with whom they are working.
  2. Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a general hosting service, so your user page is not a personal website. Your user page is about you as a Wikipedian, and pages in your user space should be used as part of your efforts to contribute to the project.

Among uses of user pages which are not acceptable is creating joke, spoof, or hoax articles, and such material will be removed. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:52, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: too long and confusing. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. --Contributions/211.30.108.203 (talk) 12:10, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

June 2009[edit]

Please do not continue to add hoaxes to Wikipedia, as you have repeatedly done in your user page. Hoaxes are caught and marked for deletion shortly after they are created. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method is to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia – and then to correct them if possible. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia policy to learn more about this project and how you can make a positive impact. If you continue to make unconstructive edits to Wikipedia you may be blocked from editing; you are also welcome to contact me on my talk page if you want to ask for advice. Please do not make unjustified changes to dates of birth in articles, as you did to Bindi Irwin and Jake Thomas, whether or not you intend to change them back (as you did to Bindi Irwin, but not to Jake Thomas). If you want to experiment with editing you are welcome to do so, but please do so in the sandbox, not in articles. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:07, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User Page[edit]

Hello GST - please do not recreate your userpage as a hoax. If you do so, your editing privileges will be revoked. You have had plenty of warnings and I'm hoping you are here to contribute to areas of Wikipedia that exist outside of userpages. You can use your own personal sand box here: User:Gstkvwpkcweophdty14108844/sandbox. Law type! snype? 09:42, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely because it has become apparent that it is being used only for vandalism. Furthermore, your username is a blatant violation of our username policy, meaning that it is profane, disruptive, or otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information). We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia, but users are not allowed to edit with inappropriate usernames, and trolling or other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
