UFC 205 PPV Buyrate

Hi,

I have a question about an article and was wondering if you could help. UFC 205 was the biggest event in MMA history. It currently has been over two months since the event, and the pay-per-view numbers have still not been released. I have searched endlessly and still cannot find them. I was wondering if you would please find a source that has the pay-per-view numbers for UFC 205 so we can add the buyrate to the article. Please!

I'm not trying to cause any problems. I'm sorry, but you are wrong. To me it looks like you took your info from Sherdog.com. Regarding the TKO(knees) change, it was the doctors that stopped the match not the referee during the fight. Making it a doctor stoppage. Regarding the rear-naked choke, it was in the standing position. Go to any card that had a rear-naked choke in the standing position and they all say (standing rear-naked choke). UFC Records

Hi! I wanted to reach out to you about the use of flagicons on the List of UFC champions page. I wanted to find out what you thought about how the guidelines from Wikipedia Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Sportspersons may or may not apply in this case.

Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or representative nationality.

My perspective: Wikipedia seems to have a clear guideline on this. If a sportsperson is not representing their country (ie. individuals and squads competing in the Olympics, Pan-Am games, European championship, or squads competing in FIFA World Cup, etc.), then a flagicon is not to be used.

I hope this doesn't sound too curt/blunt, but the geographical location of an athlete's mother when she gave birth to him/her isn't really relevant to the UFC records. If people are interested in learning more about a fighter's background (birthplace, nationality, childhood, nicknames, etc.), they can glean that information from the individual wiki page for that person.

Hello. As I briefly mentioned on the edit summary, I agree with that when it comes to flags in fighters' pages or every single event article. However, the list of champions is a very specific page. The fighters' nationality is very used in media (well, all fighters wear fight kits based on their nationality) and I don't believe such information is irrelevant to be displayed.

As a matter of fact, guidelines like that one are not rules. I quote: It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply. Any substantive edit to this page should reflect consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page. That's what I'm arguing here. They definitely are irrelevant to add to every event/mma record, but a page regarding a timeline of champions is a quick article for readers to look for an important part of the organization's history and flags quickly help with knowledge of champions' nationality. See that challengers don't get such treatment because then it would become a big mess. But anyway, I'm also open to keep the discussion. You could bring some other mma editors here or obviously we could shift this discussion to the article's talk page. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 16:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Fight record - "-"

Thank you for you recent edit on Brian Camozzi on the fight record. My keyboard on my laptop does not have the longer dash "-" like yours. For such I use what I have on my laptop. As you know, guidelines are not rules as you have mentioned in your talk page. A shorter dash vs longer dash does not make it wrong as the information is still recorded correctly. This is reported by Sports Illustrated, a reliable source, and there's no policy stating that it can't be included in the article to my knowledge. It's worth noting because we're talking about a period of sporting dominance, which has now come to an end. There are even some entire articles on sporting dominance in Wikipedia. The point is that in MMA, two people dominated title fights for nearly six years. Weight debut

I wanted to slightly expand on my reason for the reverts since the undo reasoning character limit was too small to do so there. Putting "weight debut" on the first fight is clearly unnecessary in my opinion. The weight for the fighter is in their infobox. If they have fought at multiple weights, it should be stated in the infobox with times, as well as putting "weight debut" on the fight in which there was a weight change. This is how it has always been done, and for good reason. There's just no good argument for putting someones weight debut on their first fight in my opinion. TBMNY (talk) 13:40, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

I understand that. However, there are many situations that we know a fighter has been competing at that single division for a while, but we're not sure if it's been all the way from the first fight. I've been noticing that more often as I've been using Tapology to get a better view of which weight classes those bouts took place in. Some cases are crystal clear of a fighter fighting in a single division, but it is not wrong to notice that in a fighter's professional debut. As a matter of fact, he's making his debut at that weight class anyway, isn't he? Take a look at professional boxing records for example.

I'm obviously doing it as events get closer. I don't have time to waste here other than those situations, so there are many pages to be updated. I understand your point of view, but there's nothing on it at the WPMMA as you mentioned on the summary. The MMA records section is an easier and better way for people to check fighter's history. changing weight class in fighter history

Hi Gsfelipe94, As refer to Cody Stamann article - recorded fighter change weight devison from on fight to the next what what I edited. Stamann fought Bill Kamery in Bantamweight and Zac Church & Terrion Ware in Featherweight. He then returned to bantamweight bout with Tom Duquesnoy. If you look into his fight history, he changed weight division in many fights. I merely edit to record. Without the edit for "Featherweight" bout with Zac Church - the record would not make sense as the fight table would have both Bantamweight on fight record column 13-1 and on 16-1. Check his fight info on Tapology, it would be easier to understand then what I have tried to explain above.CASSIOPEIA (talk) 16:21, 21 October 2017 (UTC)

No, it does make sense just as every other article out there. When a fighter (again, every single article is like that) makes a debut or a return to an specific weight class (as stated on the note), it means he's fighting in that division until another note like that shows up. When you see weight class bout in a note, it means that for that specific weight bout, the fighter fought in that division. Otherwise we'd have several "Returns" that wouldn't be necessary. Hi Gsfelipe94, I can understand your reasoning, however, the fight table does not indicate Stamann debut (the very fight fight) weight info. If one study the table on fight record 13-1 and on 16-1 both indicated bantamweight. The weight class on 14-1 and 15-1 record are on FW but there are not recorded. And I think it should be there to have clear understanding when study the fight table. My take is record table should be easy to understand in a glance for a reader. As I mentioned, every single article is like that. Just because the very first fight does not have his weight class, it doesn't mean we can understant the remaining of his record. His bout against Erik Vo clearly says that he made a return to the featherweight division (which means that's his weight class from that moment on). He then made a one-off bout at BW , but still remained at that division (we have plenty of situations like that on wikipedia), until he returned de facto for the BW division against Duquesnoy. Every article recorded in such a way does not mean it is clear to reader that is one off bout was out the weight category to the reader. Hey man, how's it going? I've noticed a couple of occasions where you seem displeased with source formatting and other edits on MMA articles. Just wanted to say that your work is great and all but you can't expect everyone to employ the same sentence structure and word choices. We're all brothers and sisters in arms here. If it is a serious issue, we can begin to use the hidden text option for all event articles from now on. Perhaps leave a note in the hidden parameters saying something along the lines of "Please remember to note injuries and booking changes in the background section of the article and remember to cite the information you've found using the following format......" I'm done. Let extremely relevant info get lost in limbo. It is impossible to write my own words if I'm not the one creating an article for a news website. The source is there and the last edit had plenty of "own words" mixed with official information (which obviously is what drives Wikipedia, otherwise it would just be my storytelling). Hi Gsfelip 94, Copyright violation addresses the use of original expression without permission of the holder which is a violation of laws even the credit is given to the source. For articles, the Copyright Law gives the copyright protection to the “original works of authorship fixed in in a tangible medium of expression” in the newspaper, magazine and freelance article at the moment of their creation, for the life of the creator plus 70 years after, and 95 years for corporation publication or 120 years from date of creation, whichever is shorter.

Do note that a “fact” such as in this case “10-month sentence” is not considered an original work of authorship; but how the ways facts are recorded where the style of the writing, choice and/or arrangement of words are copyrightable. An infringement of copyright is committed when a person uses the “exact words /almost exact words in a consecutive manner” of the author/holder, which in your case your 1^st and 2^nd edits were entirely copied and pasted the work from MMA Junkie publication, and you copied and paste 2 out of 4 sentences verbatim on your third edit, which was about 35%-40% of the content.

1. Tae Hyun Bang was sentenced to a 10-month prison term after being found guilty of taking bribes in connection with a plan to throw his fight.

2. UFC officials warned him and Kuntz of a potential fixed fight as betting lines changed drastically from Bang being the favorite to a heavy underdog.

To note, as a guideline, a few words copies from the original works and an idea of expression such as weather the storm are generally acceptable and so is a direct quote of speech. However, any longer phrases which would be expression in a number of ways are copyright protected. To use a few short sentences on a large article generally is ok but it will considered infringement if the edit entry is consists of big percentage of the original work. To avoid copyright infringement, one needs uses his/her own words to convey the source’s information. Paraphrasing could minimise the the copyright violation; however, ultimately, court judgement would determined the if copyright violation has been made.

Lastly, here are a few examples where the German car maker Audi was sued for copyright breach.

1. Audi infringed copyright violation over Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” in their commercial advertising. [6]

2. Audi was fined US $ 965,000 over copyright infringement for using 10 words from Brian Andreas’s story of “Angel of Mercy” - [7]

I am extremely aware of that policy. As a matter of fact, I've actually reverted a lot of the edits like that. However your update is completely wrong. There's no speculation on that info, actually there is verified info of the organization targeting the bout. There are several of these situations in many articles of UFC events. So you're wrong when you say it's unofficial speculation. And you're alone reverting relevant information for the article. The article gets extremely poor and you don't even mention what title is vacated and GSP's page isn't even linked... So it does look weird and lacks a lot of information. All of it is relevant and ahould not be removed. I believe you're having issues separating what's right or wrong within WP policies. If you still feel we're all wrong, create a discusson on talk page before edit warring (as you are the one drastically changing something that is not wrong). Thanks.
