Hello Greudin, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. You can learn more on the how to edit page. The naming conventions and manual of style pages are also useful. Feel free to experiment at the Wikipedia:Sandbox. EasyTimeline[edit]

Greuding, there are two issues here. Yes EasyTimeline does not handle UTF-8 code yet. I can't tell you when it will, as this is a significant adaptation, it involves custom font support for one thing. I will surely do this, I'm only very busy on another project right now. However you should still see something, an image with some garbled text, or when you input contains errors, an error box. Both do not happen on several Wikipedias, only old images are still shown, so someone made a change which disabled EasyTimeline, I tried wikitech yesterday but got no response, I'll try again. Cheers, Erik

EasyTimeline is back now. Is also handles UTF-8 characters within the ASCII extended range. However some common accented characters are missing from its internal font, like è. Later this year I will add support for external fonts with makes the whole unicode range available. Cheers, Erik Zachte 16:35, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Warsaw Uprising[edit]

There were some decent publications recently published in French. I haven't read them and cannot judge their value, but judging from various oppinions these are among the best:

 • Débâcle dans le camp des vainqueurs – action militaire polonaise 1939-1945, prof. Wojciech Roszkowski - one of the best historians we have here
 • L’insurrection de Varsovie. La bataille de l’été 1944 Alexandra Viatteau, Paris, Presses de l’université de Paris-Sorbonne, 2003
 • Varsovie insurgée, août 1944, Alexandra Viatteau, 1984
 • there is also a book mentioned here
 • short essay by T. Kondracki
 • You should refer to your local Polish embassy or consulate for more reading, they are usually helpful. Also, the Warsaw Uprising Museum in Warsaw has got a webpage in French.

Nomination[edit]

Hello Greudin,

I noticed that you seemed distressed that your nomination to become an administrator does not seem likely to succeed. Please realize that this is almost certainly not a result of francophobia. For example, User:Anthere, who is from France, has not only been elected an administrator on the English Wikipedia, but also a member of the Wikimedia Board of Trustees

Instead, your nomination is probably not receiving support because you have not made enough edits. Generally speaking, nominations with <~2000 edits are not successful. Another concern may be that you are not completely fulent in English. I suggest you wait a few months, amass about 2000 edits, become more familiar with general Wikipedia policies, and then re-nominate yourself with a message that has been checked by someone who is more fluent in English. I also suggest that you not make comments about an "anglo saxon hegemony". Most users of the English Wikipedia are from the United States and thus are not of Anglo-Saxon ethnicity, but more likely of German, Irish, Italian, or African background instead. I'm just offering these words as advice, but I think that if you listen, you have a better chance to become an administrator.

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Pic of the Day[edit]

Hi Greudin,

Just to let you know that your photograph Image:Abbey-of-senanque-provence-gordes.jpg is up for reuse on Pic of the Day on the 28th March. I've reused the caption from before, but you can make any changes at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/March 28, 2005. -- Solipsist 10:00, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Synagogue Picture[edit]

I love the picture you took of the Art Nouveau Synagogue (Image:Synagogue-guimard-pavee-st-paris.jpg)! Could you tell a little bit more about the picture, where was it taken and what did you use? A digital camera or an optical one? Jester2001 11:28, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the description page, please check : commons:Image:Guimard-4eme-artnouveau-10-rue-pavee-synagogue.jpg. Another pics of it in the Hector Guimard's article. Greudin (discuss.)

William-Adolphe Bouguereau gallery[edit]

You have in the past edited William-Adolphe Bouguereau. A related article, the William-Adolphe Bouguereau gallery has been nominated for deletion for violating WP:NOT (AfD here). A proposal to modify WP:NOT is here. Please join either or both conversations and comment as you see fit. Dsmdgold 16:56, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for your note of congratulations on my talk page! As I explained there, I guess I'm just a boring guy. You can see from my user page, however, that I don't *only* talk about stations. Quite the opposite! :) Nach0king 00:10, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Yea, about the tremulous wikipedias. They kind of suck so far, because they all use under-the-rug wiki software. If you know anyone with hosting and related information, i could set up a better wiki using WikiMedia (what wikipedia uses).

Re: Mediawiki[edit]

Yes, but that doesnt give the flexibility of a home hosted site. If we could get someone to chip in for a 1&1 hosting package, their cheapest is 2 bucks, then we could set up a much better site. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Paradox4600 (talkcontribs) 19:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:EdiculePorteDauphine-f.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:EdiculePorteDauphine-f.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 10:04, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hector Guimard photographs[edit]

Are the images free in the United States? Why were they deleted from Commons? It's possible that they are free enough for Wikipedia, but not free enough for Commons. J Milburn (talk) 10:17, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They are free as in beer in USA and mostly globally (Germany, UK, etc) EXCEPT in France (architect's rights owner can deny derivative work but educational distribution is tolereted but not modification and $$$ copies) Greudin (talk) 10:21, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As long as they are free in the US, Wikipedia will accept them as free. As such, please upload them under the original license (CC, GFDL, whatever) but you can add a note that they are non-free in France, if you like. Also, if you could change those that you have already uploaded, that would be very helpful. Whereas Commons images have to be free in the country of origin and the US, Wikipedia accepts anything free in the US. If you keep uploading them as fair use, they're all just going to end up deleted. J Milburn (talk) 11:23, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Salut Greudin !
-- Asclepias (talk) 04:06, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Michel Marot[edit]

I have nominated Michel Marot, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michel Marot. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. AvN 10:58, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:39, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
