I reviewed the contributions from the above author, and they seem to be valid points. I assume you reverted most of them due to their overly technical nature and difficulty of reading in contrast to the existing content. They contributed roughly 2000 characters to a couple of articles (Trusted System and Source-code compatibility) by adding relevant details to existing points. I don't disagree entirely with their reversion, but the author seems to be an expert. Perhaps reviewing the contributions and rewriting them into a more natural flow for the reader would be a better solution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biorpg (talkcontribs) 00:42, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Answer from the Author: So I didn't understand why you blocked me. The reason I didn't understand is because I'm new to Wikipedia. I joined about 3 weeks ago or on October 3rd. What I liked about your response is the compliments Thank you for those. I also want to be unblocked.Btw i'm the Authors friend and this is what he said. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.232.46.198 (talk) 12:31, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

What was your/your friend's username/IP address? Your description doesn't match any of the users I've blocked since 3 October and I never blocked the user mentioned above. Graham87 13:02, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

Woof! woof!

Graham--if you don't mind, can you reinstate the account creation thing on that 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32 range? Our old dog-rapping friend keeps making new accounts and it's driving poor Sagaciousphil, who is a hardcore rap fan (old school, west coast, dirty south, you name it), insane. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 14:27, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

@Drmies: Grrrrrrrr! Done, and I've tied the range up for another year, because I'm both a sadist and a masochist (the latter because of all the collateral damage I'll probably see). Graham87 14:34, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
  • You mentioned that before, and it's a valid point. I really don't want anyone turned away; I will be happy to answer complaints so feel free to blame me, and pass the complaints on to me. Thanks Graham... Drmies (talk) 14:46, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
  • Speaking of collateral... we've had a few people contact UTRS about being suddently unable to edit via mobile. The annoying thing is that Labs can't yet work with IPv6 (phab:T37947), thus UTRS can't take in IPv6 appeals at all (github #139), so people end up contacting the UTRS tooladmin mailing list and we (well.... I) have to manually respond. It's not the end of the world (yet), just thought I'd mention it. We usually tell people that the rangeblock applies only to unregistered editing so they can login to edit, and if they don't already have an account, they can request one at ACC. How to fix page vandalism?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atotonilco_El_Alto

If you look under "notable people", someone has added "Paulo Garcia, super engineer". Now the problem is, I'm Paulo Garcia. These edits are someone vandalizing the page using my name. I am not an engineer nor do I have any notability to warrant a position on this list. How do I fix this damage without being "disruptive"? I don't know how to provide sources for removing the name from the list, as the source is myself.

IP Address

I'd like to request the permission to edit for my IP address, which is 2607:fb90:5909:77f2:0:25:9559:d401; this is blocked by your ban on the IP address range of 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32.

I apologise if this request is an inconvenience.

Tried to create an account

I'm a single mom 03 3 & just tried to create an account to make notes on an article regarding psychological development. After I entered my info I got routed to a screen informing me that I was denied due to YOUR reporting my inappropriate commenting & editing. I have NEVER even visited this site let alone commented or made any edits!!! Please rectify this or let me know how I can do so. I have a toddler w/special needs including Sensory Processing Disorder and REALLY need to be able to do this research & male notes/comments for myself! Dopeymom03 (talk) 13:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

great to see

longhair back - all we need is 10 of him and things might improve a bit around here :) JarrahTree 15:05, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

What's in need of improvement? You sound a little down about the place. I know you mentioned on my talk page earlier that numbers have dropped but overall the place looks like its still in one piece. I can't say I'll be as active as I once was, but I'll try where I can as I can. You wouldn't want me cloned mate. I did check a few old names and their contribs out and some are still active, just not as active as they were back in the day. -- Longhair\talk 15:23, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
one piece fair copy yup - not down about the place - improvement needed is where quite a few state projects have genuine black holes when it come to a mix of issues - tasmania barely breathes above water editing wise - and other areas where intentions are good but as much to fix up after others as part of anything - new south wales had hundreds of articles that didnt even have nsw=y on their talk pages at one point recently... - overall needs lotsa small stuff - graham and I have good memories of your persistence in seeking out untagged talk pages - many current very-big-edit-editors do not even acknowledge that talk pages or project tags exist... sfunny old world we live in - not down - just odd JarrahTree 15:32, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
You just reminded me you were an old Tassie chap who moved to Perth? Or something like that. Am I right there? Now it's all coming back. The WikiProject Australia stuff was a little technical back in the day, it could probably be simplified quite a bit and a few inactive projects taken out. Fiddling with that type of stuff will take me a bit of time to get my head back around the lot. It's been almost 10 years mate. I had to even think back what NSW=yes meant there for a moment. I notice the pie graphs addition since. Was impressed :D -- Longhair\talk 15:37, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Nope - state projects imho are worth keeping - it gets complicated - some dream of bots and machine process these days - they might pick up the slack - nah insufficient spread of edit ranges can be a benefit for some state projects where localised focused editing can benefit from local knowledge - maybe some of the weirder areas are the spa's who get it into their head they can re-arrange the whole of wikipedia (not just hoax articles on non existent phenomenon in Tasmania say) - a few have been blocked - but very late in the day in my mind... some still lord it over other editors with a range of postures that seem to elude adequate capture. a I say the place has not lost the sense of odd. JarrahTree 15:47, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
I wasn't suggesting wiping out entire state projects. I did glance over the project, some are looking tired. Back in those days Wikipedia was the cool place to be, with growth always happening. These days we've kinda hit critical mass, with 5M articles. Back then we had 1/5 of the content. You know I'm not shy to block where required, but everyone deserves a chance before being shown the gate. Seems the Aussies have lost a few quality admins since I took a break. Surprised you're not one yourself these days. I'll take a good look around over the next week or so and see how we can liven up the place eh? -- Longhair\talk 15:55, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

thanks for your dedication to wikipedia!

Hello good sir!

My name is Nick Rambo, a freshly minted user of Wikipedia. I notice you seem to be very devoted to keeping Wikipedia a high quality resource on the Internet - you're doing God's Work son!

However, I wanted to inform you about a persistent frustration I ran into when trying to create an account. I was notified that the IP address I was using was flagged for vandalism - problem is I never engaged in vandalism, that is for losers that want to see the world burn. What seems to have happened is that you placed a very wide range of IPv6 addresses in a block, appx 79,228,162,514,264,337,593,543,950,336 addresses! I realize persistent vandalism is a pain in the tookus but my assumption is that you weren't aware of how broad a range of addresses you were affecting. I got this data point from this website: IP address range calculator - http://www.gestioip.net/cgi-bin/subnet_calculator.cgi

You may decided to leave that wide ranging block in place, however in the interest of fairness to new users, I would encourage you to refine it a bit, then broaden it if the horrible "user" you were targeting manages to slither back in.

Just wanted to give you a heads up, as I had been trying for about a month to create an account through different methods.

Thanks for your hard work and dedication, hope you are enjoying springtime down under, Fall is beginning to fall here in America :)

Regards,

Nick — Preceding unsigned comment added by Necrambo (talkcontribs) 12:57, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

@Necrambo: Hey Nick, thanks very much for your kind words. However, the dog and rapper vandal is particularly insidious and persistent, and desperate circumstances require desperate measures. I've previously tried toning down the block but to no avail. Ask Drmies. Graham87 14:12, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
I agree with much that was said here, esp. the bit about Graham doing God's work. Graham, spring is nice, but fall is football season, so Roll Tide. Yeah, it's not just me and Graham who've looked at that range... the block should remain in place. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 16:39, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Can you help please?

Dear Graham87! In February you have been so nice to help us with import of my German article. IrmaCan translated the article. In reference No. 15 (named focus_2010) there appears an error-hint („zero width space character in |trans-title= at position 8 (help)“). I looked for it but do not understand. Could you please be so kind as to help us removing the error or do you know somebody who could help? Best wishes --Andrea014 (talk) 16:15, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Consumer Boycott deletion - willing to restore to my sandbox?

Hello,

You deleted my consumer boycott article stub yesterday for being too similar to the general Boycott Wiki page (I agree completely!). I'd like to revise my work and tailor it to improve the Application and Uses section of the Boycott Wiki article. To do this, is it alright if you restore my work to my personal sandbox please? Thank you very much!

Wiki Archeology

Hello Graham.

I don't log often on my editor page, so I just saw today your message dating of more than one year, regarding this very old page User:BernardVatant. Apologies for the delay. Nice you unearthed this old page and its revisions, in particular the exchange with Larry Sanger back in June 2001, when I was one of the first editors of the French WP. What a time! I've become with years a very lazy Wikipedian, but still amazed at what this project has become. It was much more fun to edit in those early times, it was an open space, the Far West of knowledge. Nowadays it's a serious and often tedious task, I'm full of admiration for those who work daily on this. Stay tuned. --universimmedia (talk) 21:24, 3 December 2017 (UTC) PS : I have an old user page in the French WP too, restored from the same period archive, https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilisateur:BernardVatant, created June 1, 2001. I'm not sure how to link those two pages together now, if you can do it, it would be cool. Thanks for your time!

Thanks for your quick answer. I will do as you suggest. I will undo the redirection, put an historical note and a link to my current profile (more or less like in the French WP) and an interwiki link. Thanks again for your time.--universimmedia (talk) 10:54, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
Well, I tried to do as said, but I stumbled on the issue that those pages are no more associated to current active editors, so I got a warning and the interwiki links do not seem to work. Not sure what to do without messing it all. --universimmedia (talk) 11:09, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
The message I get when I try to edit the page User:BernardVatant is : "User account "BernardVatant" is not registered. If you wish to use "BernardVatant" as your username, please make a request at Wikipedia:Changing". Which means, if I delete the redirection, it is "as if" this user were still active. That said, it's just a warning, I can edit the page anyway. But now I'm wondering if I could not make this old user name alive again, and get rid of this "universimmedia" pseudo. Is it possible? And what happens to the edit history in that case? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Universimmedia (talkcontribs) 16:17, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks Graham for the support. I've managed to edit both fr and en old user pages and link them together, with explicit historical notes. Now my WP identities are tied together. Have a look to see if I did not miss anything. universimmedia (talk) 10:18, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Evasion of a rangeblock

I do not know what disruption you were targgeting with this rangeblock:

92.76.112.0/20 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

but if it involved adding "Category: [year] in science", that user is now back in action at:

92.72.102.39 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

User:Widr blocked that specific IP for a short time, but possibly it should be longer and/or converted to a wider range. DMacks (talk) 18:43, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

I informed Widr about this note here. Probably best to keep any discussion centralized ("here" not on all our talkpages) in case others want to join in. DMacks (talk) 18:47, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Yeah, that IP was reported to AIV as a sock of Europefan. Widr (talk) 18:49, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
@DMacks and Widr: Ah, that's what that vandal's called. They've been here for a while, eh?? I've just blocked Special:Contributions/92.72.96.0/20 for a year; that range made some other Europefan-ish edits earlier but I don't think they're serious enough to revert. Graham87 01:32, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Blocked

I was trying to fix an error on the voice season 13 page, but I couldn't because you blocked my IP address. Is it possible you can unblock my IP address or account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaughtryLeave (talkcontribs) 19:34, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Good catch on spotting that this ancient (and now non-working) URL format is still out there in articles. Would you like me to clean them up with the AutoWikiBrowser or are you happy doing it yourself. It looks like there are about 70 of them. I thought I had cleaned up all the old Trove URL formats some months ago but it seems I missed the ndpbeta ones. Kerry (talk) 07:51, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

@Kerry Raymond: Thanks for the offer, but I'm happy cleaning it up myself ... even on my birthday ... that's how crazy I am! :-) I'm at least half-way anyway, and I find other random things to fix along the way. I found this format due to an edit by InternetArchiveBot to the Yehudi Menuhin article. Graham87 07:57, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Block: 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32

The user of 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32 reports that the IP number is blocked from editing, and that Graham87 is one of the blocking editors. There is no reason given for the block, and no attempt to edit Wikipedia nor any disruptive activity or actions have been made from that IP address. Thus, the block is unfair and unwarranted and the user has asked that said block be removed. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:AC50:61D0:75E9:CCF3:F5AF:D103 (talk) 22:45, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

I've gotten an answer on another editor's talk page and I agree with that opinion. No edits are made from the IP number in question and that user does not wish to create an account from that device at the present, so no problem. Thanks for your site's efficiency and the editors' professionalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:AC50:61D0:75E9:CCF3:F5AF:D103 (talk) 23:07, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Public libraries in Queensland

As part of 1Lib1Ref, expect to see a lot of public library information to be added to Queensland towns. What you saw this morning was an edit training session. Our campaign is to try to get all the information about schools, libraries, and other community amenities into the town/locality articles. While it's not wildly exciting information, it will all be accurate and cited (and frankly in many of those towns, a library is actually an exciting thing relative to the next small town down the road without a library). Kerry (talk) 09:06, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

@Kerry Raymond: Alright, I'll be more gentle if I notice one of these edits in future. Graham87 09:21, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

@JzG: Nope, the OneClickArchiver script you were using just archived that message from 2015 into a 2002/2003 archive, instead of placing it in archive 68 like it was meant to. Graham87 12:25, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Davey Johnstone's instruments

I want to point out that the reason why I added the categories for steel guitarists and dulcimer players for Davey Johnstone is because he has played those instruments with Elton.
