About Julila (as I have just reminded myself by checking the book's index) this was a user whose work has been deleted almost everywhere because he was spamming his biography across many languages. I have inserted a link to the Latin Wikipedia, where he currently remains.

I am talking to the publishers. We don't immediately see a prospect of a talking or braille version, but we're still thinking ...

Yeah, I wonder also if some Wikipedians are drunk. Anyhow, I was glad to visit ur user page when i noticed that you might be able to provide the text from deleted articles. So there's an American electronic music producer that isn't that popular, but has created a few compilations of that kind of music. I created the (thin) articles for two of those albums a while back. I have thought about putting together something on the fella himself, but there isn't that much information about him. A few people have tried to start something about the guy. The two articles are DJ Doran and Doran Chambers.

Semi-protected means that unregistered users and new users that have not been autoconfirmed cannot edit the page. Last time I checked, to be autoconfirmed, you had to have had an account for a week and have ten edits to your name (I think those were the numbers anyway. This is going to sound like an odd request, but is there any way you could history-merge this back into wiki farm? Following yet another re-working of the revision history between that and comparison of wiki farms, it looks like this "old" history would be a good fit. Kalgoorlie-Boulder vs Dundas

It's more than a little confusing, but the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a result of a 1989 amalgamation, actually extends all the way to the South Australian border and covers the whole WA part of the Trans-Australian railway line, on which Forrest, Loongana, Rawlinna etc are located. The Eyre Highway towns further south are in Dundas. See Toiletmap (a surprisingly useful site for finding localities in LGAs, used it a fair bit for my Queensland ones) KB and Dundas. Surprisingly, if ABS are to be believed, just 41 people live in that entire stretch. Orderinchaos 07:31, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

No worries - that's why I thought I'd let you know. And yep - apparently in the beginning, those shires were eastward extensions of Beverley, York, Northam, Toodyay etc and then got progressively carved up. I guess it didn't make much sense having a shire for 41 people, although I don't see why Dundas or even Coolgardie could not have absorbed it as you'd think the good citizens of Rawlinna and Loongana wouldn't get very good representation in a City aimed almost exclusively at urban residents. Hello. I was told to contact you. Here is the talk I had with other people about this..: Hello. I am here to talk to you about the article I made. It says it will be a speedy deletion soon. It is not promoting any sites. I am only saying where the codes where from. I also made some of them. And I was going to add the picture of the game box with all its info later. Sorry it took me so long to respond, and no 5asq, I don't mind you answering on my behalf, especially since I was offline briefly. IiDevil, if you follow the link 5 albert square provides, you can ask one of those administrators to email you a copy of the page. The reason it was deleted is that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia of notable, verifiable topics not a place for people to post game codes (whether they're yours, someone else's or whatever). I don't mean to sound condescending by this, but try publishing them on a blog or somewhere, but not Wikipedia. I imported an old edit from the Nostalgia Wikipedia. The edit was at the title "The Simpsons/Homer" on the Nostalgia Wikipedia, so I had to move the English article to the title with the slash in it, catch the edit from the Nostalgia Wikipedia, then move the page back again. I dunno if it was a good idea to do that while the article was featured on the Main Page, but it was a fairly quick operation so the disruption was minimal. Graham87 04:01, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

It needed to be imported because it wasn't in the page history at en.wp, but it *was* in the page history of the Nostalgia Wikipedia. Importing has just been recently enabled for admins here (also see requests for page importation), so I'm going crazy trying to import as many edits as I can. This might clarify it a bit, or it might make you even more confused. :-) The reason why the edit I imported into Homer Simpson didn't originally appear in the page history is because the attribution of the last edit before the conversion to the new software was lost, and if you look at most diffs of Conversion script's edits, it appears to perform an edit while doing its "automated conversion". See this conversation from November 2002 about the topic. "199.174.169.xxx" was the last person to edit the Homer Simpson article before the conversion to the new software, so his/her edit was lost, until now! In the old Wikipedia software, UseModWiki, IP addresses were always stored with the last octet replaced with "xxx". Graham87 07:36, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

A related question: Is there any reason why the page title The Simpsons/Homer needs to stick around now that the history has been merged? I realize that that was the original page title, but it doesn't jibe with our current standards that explicitly don't use subpages. Moreover, Talk:The Simpsons/Homer has already attracted a useless edit. If there's a reason it has to stick around, that's fine, but if not please clean such subpage-style redirects up after you merge the edits. Thanks — Gavia immer (talk) 04:38, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

I see that you are importing edits, but it looks like you crossed up your namespaces with respect to Freemasonry - you have material moving from the Talk page history to the article history. (I see from some other querries here that I am not alone in wondering what is going on with the imports from Nostalgia Wiki... I would suggest that you devise a standard "Re: Nostalgia Wiki" comment that you could paste onto the talk pages of articles whenever you import stuff - ideally before you confuse everyone with the imports. I imported old edits from the Nostalgia Wikipedia. This edit and this edit are newly imported. The reason why there is overlap in the page history is quite convoluted, and is kinda similar to what happened to the history of the KRYPTON article (see User:Graham87/Page history observations). :-) I had to delete and undelete the pages to get rid of a junk edit that came in with the import. MediaWiki moves

I am wondering about the recent import, deletions and moves for the Constructed language article. I have seen this done on a number of other articles I track; the article and talk do not seem to be changed afterwards, and the intermediate pages at WikiMedia usually end up not existing. I'm importing old edits from the Nostalgia Wikipedia, a copy of the Wikipedia database from 20 December 2001, which contains edits that aren't in the current English Wikipedia database. I often import pages to the MediaWiki talk namespace to avoid overlapping edits; it's also an out-of-the-way location. For more information, see my subpage at User:Graham87/Import. swimming pool articles

Hi, I noticed you have made a few edits to swimming pool and was wondering if had any particular interest in the article or those that link from it. I noticed a paragraph that struck me as odd about some sort of monitoring system. It looks to me as if someone has decided to promote these devices through wikipedia, though it could be that I just don't know enough about them. I left a message on the talk page, and edited the article to remove what I thought was needles promotion. The devices even have their own pages Pool safety camera and one for the particular model Poseidon drowning detection system. Neither have references (just external links to the company's site) and nothing on the talk pages. I'm not very familiar with the tags put on articles - NPOV, AfD - but I feel that they need some serious work if they're to remain as an entry to an encyclopedia.

It could be that I'm being heavy handed about this and that it is used somewhere in public facilities or on an increasingly common basis. However, I don't think that's the case.

If you have some time, could you look at those articles? I just saw that you made several edits to the page, and came here looking to find someone who might take an interest in the article and edit it. Sorry for being lazy and not doing all this myself, I'm just hoping you've got a bigger interest in them! Lime in the Coconut 18:18, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Lower Mainland import

I don't understand what you imported, or why Nostalgia Wikipedia even exists. The info in the Nostalgia article is out of date and also "out of definition"....Skookum1 (talk) 15:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

OK I see what you imported; but I don't see the point in importing old/out of date/wrong information/contexts/definitions. And re what you did add, be aware that regional districts are not relevant to regions and that the region definitely is not only those municipalities; it's a misapplication to think it's only Greater Vancouver or the GVRD (which are two different, though overlapping, things); and technically Lions Bay, historically, was not part of it (anywhere a boat had to be taken to was implicitly not part of the Lower Mainland; the road (and railway) used to end at Horseshoe Bay). The GVRD also included areas like Alvin, at the head of Pitt Lake (which is in the FVRD now), and the FVRD includes part of the Fraser Canyon, which is not part of the Fraser Valley or the Lower Mainland. Also the Lower Mainland is not used for any census count, though BC Stats may keep its own records for that. Regional districts should not be used as conceptual frameworks for BC's regions; they are sometimes made out of pairings of those regions (Okanagan-Similkameen, Columbia-Shuswap) but even so their boundaries are arbitrary/politically-created and not reflective of geographic or social reality; and there are other subdivisions/frameworks in the province....Skookum1 (talk) 16:02, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Links to German artists

You advised me well on links to de-WP. I generally agree but feel that in some situations a red link is less helpful than an inter-wiki-link, examples: a singer with a career only in Germany decades ago - a choir director who will probably never receive international fame - a conductor who will perhaps get known worldwide years from now. Do you agree? - Please answer here, I will watch. Btw I liked a short stay in Perth and vicinity. I think that a classical musician who is well-known only in Germany or in German-speaking countries is notable enough for the English Wikipedia, because there's a large market for classical music over there; therefore he/she should have a red link. I don't know of any guidelines about this topic, however. I noticed your creation of the Klaus Mertens article. Where did you go in Perth and Western Australia? I like WA but sometimes I feel that we're too isolated (for example when obtaining services for the blind). I'd like to take a trip to Europe when I have enough money. I have no time for WA now (choir rehearsal, + I forgot the names, it's long ago, we travelled east, then south to the coast - I remember a sign at steep cliffs: you have been warned, - then back along the coast) but would like to point out that Wolfgang Schäfer followed Helmuth Rilling at the Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik but retired already - who would write an article about him? (Rilling as professor in Frankfurt is not mentioned in his en-article but de.) And it really surprised me that there is no article about Edgar Krapp who is almost a synonym for organist in Germany. Do you think stubs on those people - just to make the link to German easier - would be a good idea? Or how else to hint where more info can be found? I don't think the language is in the way because most such articles name institutions, composers, works - internationally more or less the same. Yes, I think stubs on those people in English would be the best solution. It doesn't have to be a full translation, just the basics. I notice now that we do have a guideline encouraging inline interlanguage links at Help:Interlanguage links#Inline interlanguage links, so maybe I've been a bit harsh. I still think they break the principle of least astonishment and shouldn't usually be used. It helps that the names are the same in both languages, but if I were a new user of Wikipedia who only knew English, and I stumbled into another language version of an article, I'd be quite confused. There'd be no "English" link to get me back to the English Wikipedia and I'd have to use the back button in my browser. I know that interlanguage links look different but I'm not sure how noticeable this would be to the average user. This might be an interesting topic to bring up at the village pump. It took me a while to respond because in 2 days I created 8 such stubs, not only for Germans: one Swedish, on Polish, one Britisch, two Dutch, leaning a lot. Adding a link to languages as Japanese, Hebrew and Chinese I think I know what you mean by "least astonishment". As for Chinese, I didn't succeed but got a message ... thank goodness the back button would always take me back. The ensemble Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir will appear on DYK in a few hours, therefore I wanted to change as many singers from red to blue as I possibly could. Wow, that must have been some work! Yes, where would we be without the back button? :-) I'm slightly concerned about users who don't know about the back button or don't have one for whatever reason (there are some weird and wonderful browsers and computer setups out there), but I'd agree with you that the problem is nowhere near as bad in Latin languages as it is in Chinese, Hebrew, etc. Graham87 16:14, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Import?

I see that you imported into Adam Smith but I cannot see that it had any effect. I look at the history and there is no difference between the current revision (that you imported) and the previous version. But clearly SOMETHING happened SOMEWHERE. So can you explain the expected result of importing? I read your subpage at /Import, also Help:Import and the discussion at Village Pump but I still don't see what is visibly different after the import. Just where is the old text from Nostalgia? The goal of preserving old edits seems worthwhile but not if they are invisible. Sign me curious. Sbowers3 (talk) 16:44, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Okay, so the diff showing an import is like a diff showing a move which is why there were no textual differences. I'm still curious as to the process. Is there anything anywhere that points to the specific revision that was imported? I don't see anything in the history or in the log that links to the imported revision. If you weren't around and someone wanted to see the imported revision how could someone find that revision?

I went to the very earliest revision in the history. The second revision is the one that you identified as the imported one. Reading that revision there is nothing obvious that marks it as an import transwiki revision. ls that correct or did I overlook something? BTW, it's interesting that if you read the very earliest revision it says that there is a previous revision, which is actually a later revision.
