Hi Fotogenii, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Arun Gandhi picture

Sure. Use it if you want. But I must add that the crop is very odd, as it leaves my hand resting on Sunanda's right shoulder. Lest someone mistake the Gandhis for the Addams Family, my had for Thing. (There's no way anyone would think that is Arun's hand, because it is about five shades lighter than his face.)

I ask you, my dear Wikipedians, which is worse: to allow for the publication of a photo that depicts an editor engages in an activity that directly corresponds to the text of an article (the article mentions that they teach about Nonviolence), or to distort the picture to make both Arun and Sunanda look like freaks?

The crop is very bizarre. They look like they are candle effigies of themselves, melting into one another. Is this Madame Tussaud? Are Americans ruminants? Aesculapius75 20:28, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Thing and Rumination

"Thing" is the hand from the Addams Family. The comment about Americans being ruminants was a humorous reference to something Anais Nin's brother once said. His confusion in the situation where he said that, mirrors my own confusion as to why it is so offensive to everyone that a picture depicting Arun doing what the page describes him as doing (teaching about Nonviolence) is so offensive to everyone. It's not that I'm opposed to the bizarre crop of the picture, but that I'm flabbergasted at the controversy that has ensued over NOTHING. I wash my hands of this whole thing. Put the crop up, delete the entire page, I no longer care either way. I want to be left alone! Aesculapius75 21:22, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Arun-gandhi.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Arun-gandhi.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
