Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 13:50, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Vsevolod Ivanov (painter) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Vsevolod Ivanov (painter), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 13:41, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Scott Adams shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. User:ScottishFinnishRadish, can you advise me on how to resolve the edit war or how to find consensus? User:Stoarm doesn't respond to my messages on talk pages, and won't really make any relevant comments about the merit/ lack of merit of my revisions. Fishing Publication (talk) 02:05, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:RFCBEFORE, then start an RFC if you believe your version is an improvement. You can also just wait longer for more input in the current discussion section. The page has over 200 watchers, give people time to read and weigh in. Perhaps a short explanation of your edit and why it is an improvement would help. Wikiquote[edit]

Hey! I saw your message on Wikiquote asking them to stop vandalizing my talk page. Unfortunately that user is an LTA and will most likely not stop and you've most likely made yourself a target. Thanks for trying to help though. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:31, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TJ Kaczynski[edit]

A series of unfortunate news today. Came across your userpage memorial and just came to say it is well-done. GuardianH (talk) 19:25, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks however it is anything but well done couldn't figure out how to get two images + text to share vertical space thankfully I can plagiarize from your userpage since you;'ve brought it to my attention -- seeing your userbox this perspective on the Russian Revolution might interest you Fishing Publication (talk) 19:32, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Fishing Publication Thanks; I am reading the article you linked right now. If you are a fan of Kaczynski, if you haven't already you should check out his fan archive linked here. GuardianH (talk) 19:44, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I am looking for reliable sources (though I don't doubt the authenticity myself) of a letter purported to be his -- with the distinctive handwriting -- which was shared around the internet also see here a few years ago stating that he had terminal cancer. Of course, it is doubtful that he would be able to issue a press release or statement of this kind through mainstream channels or attest to this reliably. You are an experienced editor; is there any way we can include this in the article -- even distancing from the source something like A letter was posted claiming... ? Fishing Publication (talk) 19:50, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Fishing Publication I saw those posts too. Even though they look authentic, unfortunately there is really no way to appropriately put them in the article unless it is explicitly published by a WP:RS. Unfortunately, neither the Reddit nor Medium source count as such, as they are both categorized as unreliable per WP:RSP. GuardianH (talk) 19:59, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
