Do you have some sort of special control at Wikipedia, if not, as far as I am aware I am allowed to edit anything I want as long as it is not reckless editing. Surely people looking at the waterford talk page don't want to see advice that you gave to another user (it was good advice) and especially sarcastic comments such as the one made by jmccormac. Hello, you can edit anything you like on the main space provided it does not violate any of our policy's or guidelines, but the talk pages are a record of conversations had by editors, and removing these conversations for any purpose other then archiving is completely unacceptable, particularly when comments by other editors are involved. Wikipedia policy also prohibits refactoring those posts, even your own. I acted well inside those policy's and I suggests you familiarise yourself with them if you intend to make edits of that nature. If you'd like me to point you in the right direction, feel free to ask.

Wikipedia staff don't issue warnings, the majority don't even edit it. Metawiki is the staffs playground. Warnings are issued by experienced editors when they see either a misguided edit, or an act of vandalism. There are several levels:
Level 1 (General Notes): Just friendly notes pointing people in the right direction.
Level 2 (Cautions): Similar to Level 1, accept that they are more firm, and point out to the editor that they are breaking the rules.
Level 3 (Warnings): These usually inform members that they are breaking rules only, and normally don't point to policy's, just to emphasise the warnings.
Level 4 (Final): These point out to the members, that if they repeat there actions one more time, they will be reported to the Admins and blocked for the appropriate amount of time.
Level 4m (Only): These are identical to Level 4, accept that they are the only warning the member will get.
There are a couple of variations, but they are for either things that are so severe that they may incur a block without repeating they violation, or things so insevere that they probably won't ever amount to anything, these are called "Single Issue Warnings" and "Single Issue Notices" respectively.

The thing about that is, that warning or not, it was my comment, and as the writer of that comment I'm entitled to it not being deleted, you see? Just wanted to say that they did (or I did at least), but with so many different vandals hitting the page at once it's easy for that to happen - i.e. I reverted one change, but that just uncovered more vandalism etc. So please don't imply that people didn't notice it - I'm sure more people than just me noticed it, but it was all moving pretty fast. You can opt out of signing- that's what I do. I haven't forgotten to sign in a long time (as far as I know...) but the bot caught me a couple of times doing things I didn't want to be signed (like moving other people's comments around). Well that list doesn't fall under any of the CSD criterion, and isn't specifically covered under any AFD criterion, but it is easy pray for an AFD debate in its current form. Now we can easily save it if it were to go to AFD (I have some experience in doing so), but just to save yourself some hassle I would recommend moving it for the time being. Hi Ferdiaob, I noticed this revert you made: diff. Did you really intend to mark this as vandalism? Although I understand it is annoying to see pointless churning of content because of disagreement between American and British spelling, I am concerned that this might feel like a slap to a newcomer who probably means well. Consider this diff from the same IP address, in which the individual also changes to American spelling, but also makes a good faith effort to improve the article by correcting "Dragon" to "Dragons". Maybe just putting a gentle message in the undo would suffice to correct the problem, and would also encourage this person to contribute more to WP. I agree. You were correct to revert the changes per WP:MOS, but this certainly isn't "vandalism". A message pointing out the user to the style page would have been better, or even just quoting the MoS - "It is inappropriate for an editor to change an article from one style to another unless there is a substantial reason to do so; for example, it is unacceptable to change from American to British spelling unless the article concerns a British topic". Yeah on second reading I picked up the correct tone of what you said, that's why I removed the second comment. Like I said, if its not the done thing I'm more then happy to start marking MOS related issues as AGF, the thing about that edit was that the IP didn't just change the one word or two to the alternate form, the IP swept the whole article for it, which I (possibly incorrectly) perceived as misconduct, and I hit V instead of AGF if it had just been a couple of words, I would have marked it as AGF. I said that I stood by it because if I had the option to change the summary, I wouldn't, its a record of where my head was at the time, which irrelevant of your (good) advise, can't be changed.

Recent amendments I have made replacing "Republic of Ireland" with "Ireland" have been refused on the grounds of consituting links to "different topics".
This I believe is a misinterpretation and is inconsistent with Wikipedia practice.
The official name of the 26-county state in the English language is "Ireland" as recognised by the Constitution of Ireland and every major international treaty and body including the UN, EU and the ECtHR.
Article 4 of the Constitution of Ireland states:
"The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland."
Therefore, when refering to the state in political terms the name "Ireland" should be used. This should however link to the page Ireland about the 26 county state which explains precisely the difference between the geographic, political and descriptive nuances of the name.
The geographic name of the island is "Ireland". When describing the geographic location of a place in Ireland, the geographic term "Ireland" should be used. The suitable link is Ireland leading to the page dealing with the island as a whole. This is geographically accurate and is clearly most understandable to users. Otherwise, ludicrous anomalies may arise e.g. "County Louth is on the east coast of Ireland", or "County Louth is on the north east coast of the Republic of Ireland".
The question therefore becomes one of what link to use, not what term to use.
"Republic of Ireland" is a description of the State, but has no offical status. It is used to describe the 26-county entity when ambiguity arises. This is easily avoided without recourse to constantly using the term "Republic of Ireland". The description should be used sparingly. However, it may sometimes be difficult not to use it and in that situation it may then be justified e.g. "County Donegal is one of three counties in Ulster in the Republic of Ireland".
All this is recognised by the main Wikipedia page on "Ireland";
"Ireland (pronunciation /ˈaɾlənd/ or /ˈaɪɾlənd/; Irish: Éire; Ulster Scots: Airlann) is the third largest island in Europe,[1] and the twentieth-largest island in the world.[2] It lies to the north-west of continental Europe and is surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the state Ireland (described as the Republic of Ireland in cases of ambiguity) covers five-sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the north-east."
Any deviation from this is inconsistent. Wikipedia pages on EU issues also name the 26 county state as "Ireland", with a link to Ireland. Geographic references throughout Wikipedia refer to Ireland.
Also, a lesser, though notable point to bear in mind is that, apart from being inaccurate, some people would take offence to being referred to as living in the "Republic of Ireland". That term is associated with the practice of many foreign people and states, particularly in the past, to refer to the state of Ireland when speaking the English language as the Republic/Southern Ireland/Eire, thereby ignoring the offical name of the state.

The Consensus has been drawn to my attention on my talk page and is at WP:IMOS.
The Convention is to use the word "Ireland" with a link to the Republic of Ireland/Ireland page at Ireland.
Therefore, for example, according to convention, Limerick should be described as being in "Ireland", with a link to Ireland. It should not be described as being in the "Republic of Ireland" as you changed it to.
I am sorry for going against convention as regards using the island of Ireland link at Ireland when describing geographical terms without discussing it first. But I hope consensus can be reached on this point.

Lol, on the topic of FF I've been there, those 20 tabs are now VReel related though. Ok, on that article, I can't even pretend to be knowledgeable on the topic of Wales and its peaks, but to be honest before RFM I'd say use RfC if that hasn't already been carried out. I'm a middle school teacher in San Antonio, Texas. (I'm one of the only teachers at my school who support wikipedia, but I'm also the computer teacher.) So far, I'm just here to add our school into the wikipedia database.

Currently the archives are in a 30 discussions per archive format. I archive 3 days after the final reply, but normally I forget so it's usually longer.
