Take part in a survey

Hi Everedux

We're working to measure the value of Wikipedia in economic terms. We want to ask you some questions about how you value being able to edit Wikipedia.

Our survey should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. We hope that you will enjoy it and find the questions interesting. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and will be anonymized before the aggregate results are published. Regretfully, we can only accept responses from people who live in the US due to restrictions in our grant-based funding.

As a reward for your participation, we will randomly pick 1 out of every 5 participants and give them $25 worth of goods of their choice from the Wikipedia store (e.g. Wikipedia themed t-shirts). Note that we can only reward you if you are based in the US.

Click here to access the survey: https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eXJcEhLKioNHuJv

Thanks

Rollback granted

Hi Everedux. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Nakon 05:53, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Constructive

I am wondering how my edit was not constructive. It was just as factual as the preceding three sentences in the article, and it utilized the exact same level of reference validation as the previous three sentences. - 2601:58B:4200:4B81:BC8D:5986:363:5F5D (talk) 03:16, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

First of all, the message you received was from a template, so I apologize if it seemed overly harsh. However, if you think a topic does not deserve a page, it's best to follow the notability guidelines, usually by placing a {{notability}} template on the page. More guidelines are on the linked page, but you should also keep these points in mind. Everedux (talk) 03:33, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

From 12.190.9.146

Thanks for the message -- unfortunately it didn't reach the previous user of this IP who made the edit. From what I can see, the edit action was meant to correct a typo rather than being a test, even though it didn't quite do the job (prefabicrated -> prefabicated, when it should've been "prefabricated"). I've made what I think is the right correction on the page now. Thanks for making wikipedia a great community! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.190.9.146 (talk) 16:29, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

We need YOU!

Hello Everedux,

Unregistered editors cannot create articles on Wikipedia, but they can use the articles for creation process to submit drafts that registered editors can either accept and publish or decline. WikiProject Articles for creation is looking for experienced editors who want to partake in this peer review process. If you have what it takes to get involved, then please take a look at the reviewing instructions. To discuss specific AfC reviews, do so freely on the designated talk page.

There is currently a backlog of over 2600 drafts (17 very old).

If you know an editor who may be willing to help out, please use the template you are currently reading {{subst:WPAFCInvite}} to draw attention to this WikiProject. Many hands make light work!

Apologies for reverting your edit; you just destroy vandalism to fast! (This is a good thing)

I was attempting to revert the edit made on the page 2019 Townsville flood (The death count was claimed as "6969", which we both agree is vandalism), but while trying to help out, I somehow got rid of your fix and brought it back to the original. Deleting and not replying to User talk:Mixedmartialartsfan1 on wrong revert and warning Tony Ferguson page

Hi Mixedmartialartsfan1, Greetings. Thank you for your message above. Do take on the advice to leave a brief Help:Edit Summary on all your edits as this will not only remove the misunderstanding and receive warning when you remove content of an article but more importantly it is a way to communicate to other editors the nature of your edits for articles' content is the collaboration works from many editors.

Hi Everedux Greetings. Thank you for being part of counter vandalism in Wikipedia. I am one of the Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy (CVUA) trainers and also an active MMA editor in Wikipedia. Mixedmartialartsfan1 reached out to me as I would be familiar of the nature of your wrong revert and warnings place on their talk page. Mixedmartialartsfan1 had placed 4 different messages on your talk page explaining your revert and warnings were not correct which you deleted them each time when you received the message without replying. For such Mixeodmartialartsfan1 sought help from me of the situation on my talk page.

As all of us know communication is one of the most important aspect among the editors in Wikipedia, not replying an editor and deleted their messages is not a right thing to do especially you had reverted and wrongly place the warning messages on the their talk page for you didnt want to look into the matter until you were being complaint of your conduct. Secondly, as a vandal fighter, we do mistakes from time to time, including I, but we have to take responsibility of our edits and learnt from them if we have done wrong for CVUA motto is civility, responsibility, maturity, and not replying an editor of the your edits and deleted them did not show you care of your actions and trying to hide the complains. You have the right to delete the messages on your talk page, but they will still show on the history page. Admin will check your edits including your talk page when you request certain user rights or if you are involved any noticeboard incidents next time, so deleting the messages would only raise more questions by the admin. Lastly, If we are not sure about certain deletion or changes in an edits especially a sportsman, such as they have just been transfer to another club, result overturn due to some doping incidents, their wins/lost records, and etc, then we, as the vandal fighters, would just leave the edits as they are for other vandal fighters who are familiar with the sport to verify the info or editors who are involved in the sport to take action if necessary (just as in this case, Mixedmartialartsfan1 knows about the the bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov or Donald Cerrone have not been taken place before or being scheduled at the moment - see HERE).

You done the right thing to remove the warnings message and apologies to Mixedmartialartsfan1 finally and I thank you for that. In CVUA, the program addresses more than vandalism subject, it also cover username, threats, CSD and etc., if you want to enroll, just let me know. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 03:11, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello CASSIOPEIA. I understand that communication is very important on Wikipedia, and I also realize that removing talk page messages is not advisable in most cases. In the past, I've only removed messages from my talk page that appeared to be clearly sent in bad faith, such as these: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. Similar messages have been removed by other users, such as these: [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11].
As I said before, I incorrectly assumed that Mixedmartialartsfan1's edits were vandalism (the tone of this message [12] didn't help with that), and as such I removed the messages that were sent. I was not trying to avoid responsibility, however, as I've been fully willing to explain my edits or acknowledge mistakes in the past - see here: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5].
That being said, I recognize that my actions in this case were wrong, and for that I apologize. I should have both checked the edits in question closer before deciding to revert them and responded to Mixedmartialartsfan1's messages right away. I will do my best not to repeat either of these mistakes in the future, while also being more careful about reverting edits on topics I'm not very familiar with.
Hi Everedux, Greetings. Thank you for your message. I had already noted and thanked your acknowledgment on my last message. I do understand the message from the editor might not be what you were expected or might not consider civil for your standard but there was no personal or legal thread made. We, the vandal fighters, often receive unpleasant messages, and sometimes down right disgusting comments. It is not easy to keep cool at times, me included, and what we could do is to take a few minutes break, make a cup of coffee to chill it off. You have been helping Wikipedia especially in C-V area and I thank you for that. We all do mistakes and all we would do is to minimize them. Thanks again for your message and your effort made. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 16:35, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi again, CASSIOPEIA, I wanted to thank you for your help and attention, it is good to know that with any problem you can ask any Wikipedian and they will try to solve the trouble, thank you very much. Hey Everux, I know the tone of the first message wasn’t the best and was kinda disrespectful, I am sorry for that, I was a little bit pissed and confused, in the next messages I sent I tried to be more peaceful, as you can see in my last message, I apologize for that. I aprecciate your apologies, crap happens, I also made a mistake in being aggressive in my messages! Have a great day both of you! (I don’t know how to reply correctly from mobile phone).— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mixedmartialartsfan1 (talkcontribs) 03:44, May 25, 2019 (UTC)
Mixedmartialartsfan1 Hi, thank you for your message. Appreciate. So, things goes well and problem solved just with some civil communication. thank you for both (MMAfan1 and Everedux) of your effort to fight vandalism and MMAfan1, pls remember to leave edit summary from now on. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 17:53, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your understanding - I'm glad this has been resolved. Everedux (talk) 00:48, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Abby Wambach

Abby Wambach is on record saying: "The way that [Jurgen Klinsmann] has brought in a bunch of these foreign guys is not something I believe in wholeheartedly. I don't believe in it. I don't believe in it in my heart."

The players on the USMNT are not foreign. They aren't immigrants. They are Americans, born into citizenship abroad, as John McCain and Ted Cruz were, for example. We would not label them as "foreigners." The sentiment she is expressing, therefore, is at best, ignorant. (In reality, labeling her sentiment as ignorant is giving her pass.) I propose that this section of her page be renamed "Ignorance regarding the USMNT".

Or, to be even more tame to the issue, this section should be called "Controversy regarding comments she made of the USMNT", and not "criticism" because criticism of an issue would have to be based on an informed opinion. Merriam-Webster defines criticize as: "to consider the merits and demerits of and judge accordingly." Abby Wambach's comments reflect a lack of awareness of the merits of what she is opining on, and therefore, calling this section "Criticism of the USMNT" is inaccurate.

Her comments were reacted to on a variety of platforms, including social media, sport networks like ESPN and Fox, and even national news networks like CNN. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:9FF0:BA10:936:89D6:F679:9BD2 (talk)

That may be true, but renaming a section heading to "Xenophobia" without discussion is still a violation of the neutral point of view policy. Everedux (talk) 01:26, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Very well, then would "Controversy regarding comments she made of the USMNT" be in accordance with the neutral point of view policy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:9FF0:BA10:936:89D6:F679:9BD2 (talk)
Something like that would be better, yes. Everedux (talk) 01:33, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Ok, sounds good.
Just my two cents: As it currently stands, labeling the section as "Criticism of the USMNT" violates the neutral point of view policy principle of: Indicate the relative prominence of opposing views. The current label of this section suggest that her feelings toward the USMNT carry expert, substantive weight because she is a prominent, fellow professional soccer player. While words from a pro soccer player should ordinarily carry credible weight, the substance of her comments are not based on fact. Her comments don't weigh the merits of a certain style of play, for example; her comments are factually inaccurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:9FF0:BA10:936:89D6:F679:9BD2 (talk)
Yeah, for this case I suppose that could be true. Everedux (talk) 01:50, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

You were repeatedly adding an unsourced name meaning to Jaber, which is why I deemed your edits unconstructive. I wasn't trying to "attack" you - remember, original research isn't permitted here. Everedux (talk) 01:28, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Ian Arebian and my son name is Jaber. I do know what this name means..and Jaber is not the same like Habit or Habit or Faber. Please understand me. Thank You. Wafa10 (talk) 01:48, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
I ment Jabir not Habit. Sorry typing with out glasses Wafa10 (talk) 01:49, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
And I ment Gaber not Faber. Sorry Wafa10 (talk) 01:50, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Unfortunately, that qualifies as original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Everedux (talk) 01:50, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
May You Please tell me how I need to feel when I reed name Jaber and I don't see the correct meaning. Wafa10 (talk) 01:53, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
I understand that you're frustrated, but I recommend that you take this conversation to the article's talk page - you can raise your concerns there and someone else may be able to address them more appropriately. Everedux (talk) 01:58, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi Everedux: I see that at 21:50 June 5, you reverted a change made at 21:49 ("Projects" -> "porn collection"). However, when I bring up the article, it still (June 6 08:52 PDT) shows "porn collection" instead of "Projects". Are you able to complete the reversion so that "Projects" appears? Thanks. Hello, Everedux,

There were some very serious allegations made against these artists and, for Sadistik the only sources were other Wikipedia articles and for Tonedeff, there were no sources at all! Wikipedia is not a reliable sources because, as you know, anyone can edit Wikipedia. This information in the edit might very well be true but we can't publish serious charges like this against a living person without better sourcing. If you see someone remove badly sourced accusations against a living person, please don't revert them. If you believe they are true, find some good sources for these claims. Otherwise, I encourage you also to remove poorly sourced allegations when you see them, too. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:04, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I must have missed the context of those edits. I'll make sure to check which sources are cited when evaluating content removal in the future. Thanks! Everedux (talk) 00:38, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Someone else using your IP address made unconstructive edits to that page, which is why you received those notices. This is hard to avoid when using a shared IP address, but if you create an account you won’t receive any more irrelevant warnings. Everedux (talk) 20:56, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

I give the reasons behind the removing Aesop's origin section

Hello Everedux.

I give on the talk page of Aesop, the reasons of the removing of the section about his origins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.164.53.42 (talk) 21:21, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Okay, but you should note that in your edit summary next time. It’s also a good idea to seek consensus before removing an entire section of a page. Everedux (talk) 21:39, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Hagen's discography

Hi, Everedux! I did that minor change from "Garota de Berlin" to "Garota de Berlim" because that's the name of the song. The city's name is written with an "m" at the end in Portuguese instead of an "n", hence "Garota de Berlin" is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 191.243.48.253 (talk) 22:26, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for providing an explanation - I restored your edit on Nina Hagen discography. My apologies for the misunderstanding. Everedux (talk) 22:42, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

Confused to deletion

I took something from Facebook and added it to the Facebook section. It's the groups that are in the event, for the page I posted it on. So your deletion of my addition makes zero sense Brontej (talk) 00:59, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

The information you added was unnecessary and did not adhere with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. The "Facebook event and Internet meme" section of the page already explains the event well enough - listing all of that information isn't really helpful. Everedux (talk) 01:23, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

Correcting Kleptocrat tagging on Marcos

Hi. I'm a Philippine historian and I am well aware about the realities here on the philippines. I clearly know that the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses is still unproven. Also, the most of sources that are cited was from rappler which is know for spreading malicious news and recently got their license revoked. Please allow me to to correct the page of one of oyr honorable president. If I have more time, I will correct everthing on his page and otger PH presidents.

Even if that’s true, I reverted your edit because referring to someone as “the best” is not permitted under Wikipedia’s neutral point of view policy. Everedux (talk) 20:37, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

I am trying to send you a message is this how to do it? i am new user.

Regarding Linda fiorentino page and the Pellicano section. all of the support media cited does not claim that Pellicano was Fiorentino's "boyfriend". prior relationship does not mean romantic and to extrapolate that from unverfied media sources is sexist and libelous. you can keep prior relationship as a quote from the del quentin wilbur washingtomn post article but it must be in quotes and not stated as a fact. Until Fiorentino makes a public statement which she has not to date none of the media regarding Pellicano you cite can be considered reliable. No articles have statements from Fiorentino. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Linda Fiorentino Really (talkcontribs) 14:40, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!
