What is deemed a reliable source?

I would like to put some valid criticisms/controversies on particular pages in the interest of intellectual fairness and transparency. I noticed my edits on a particular page were taken down due to not being considered (let us be fair and call it what it is) reliable sources.

I would genuinely like to know what sources are considered genuine in the hopes that I can find those criticisms/controversies and have them properly kept on the article. This is a step to show that there isn't a bias on Wikipedia and ALL intellectual discoveries that are factual will be kept on here. There should also be an agreement that if reliable sources of these criticisms/controversies are brought forth, that the edits will stay on the page and will show the honesty, integrity, and mature attitude that I wish to see here on Wikipedia :)

Thank you for responding to my message. I recognize that the sources are considered partisan but to be fair many other partisan sources are listed as reliable sources so I am hurt at the double-standard. But moving past that, they are partisan but they point out something that actually happened. The tweet was made by them, the tweet was screenshot and then the institute responded to the tweet. Where can I list both the sources and the event. I am willing to post it elsewhere on the page and not list it as controversy but it is 100% appropriate to use the sources if they document something that happened. Hello,

I saw a notification that my user profile page is being reviewed. I am confused about why my user profile page is being reviewed, maybe you can help me understand? I do not recally any curse words, drug references, or anything of that nature on my profile so hopefully it will be seen as my information that I am allowed to post regarding myself, just as you are allowed to create a profile page about yourself.

@Updatewithfacts: oh, I think you have a misunderstanding. Whenever a page is created, it is by default "unreviewed", meaning that no one has checked it for issues. As I'm a reviewer, I can review pages - I saw nothing wrong with your userpage, so I marked it as reviewed, to remove it from the "unreviewed" queue. Elli (talk | contribs) 01:41, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

2020 United States presidential election

Your edit summary still doesn't explain how PA was a tipping-point state for Donald Trump. He lost and his electoral margin of victory was well beyond the number of electoral votes PA has. Davejohnsan (talk) 04:18, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

@Davejohnsan: it's the tipping point state for a Donald Trump victory. If a uniform shift had occurred - enough for Trump to win Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin (Biden's three narrowest wins), both Trump and Biden would be at 269 electoral votes. Old congressional elections sourcing question

Do you happen to know of any acceptable source that has vote total/ percent data for old ( Pre 1900) US house elections by district? A lot of articles on US house elections are missing district level data, and the only source that I can easily find is Ourcampaigns, which is generally unreliable. There's one book I could find on it, but it's not available online AFAIK and it's not at my local library. Jackattack1597 (talk) 18:02, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

User page / popups anomaly

I was trying out navigation popups; among other things, it provides a preview of a user's page when their name is moused over. For some reason, yours showed up as code:

... and so on. The page itself looks fine; it's simply the preview in popups. None of the other 30 or 40 user pages I looked at appeared this way, and it happened in both Safari and Firefox. I haven't a clue how popular the option is; it may be that few people use popups, and it's not worth tinkering with the page. In any case, I thought you might like to know. Once you feel confident, though, you can submit it for an AfC review, which should be able to get you some areas for improvement. Hi, can you please help me?

Hi Elli, I was making a .svg cartogram of House seats in each state, so that every seat is clearly visible and can be identified. I intend to put them somewhere in the 2020 United States House of Representatives election page and similar pages when ready, as in the actual map version it's almost impossible to identify tiny districts and the gerrymandered ones. But here's the issue, I went through the source code of Infobox maps in 2021 United States elections, 2020 United States elections among others and it turns out that every second map uses somewhat different color scheme. @Elli: Thanks a lot. Can you please reconsider the Independent's color, as light grey is often used for states not up for election, and dark grey is also used for nonpartisan elections like here in 2020 United States gubernatorial elections.
Also, can you make a Puert Rico specific color scheme, since they don't have Dems & Reps like the rest of US, and also have a multiparty system, as in these articles, 2020 Puerto Rico gubernatorial election & 2020 United States House of Representatives election in Puerto Rico. This is further complicated by the New Progressive Party members some of whom identify as Democrats at national level (e.g., Gov. @CX Zoom: I didn't make most of this color schemes, I was only documenting what was already in use (also, I do think grey as independent makes sense - it's different enough to be noticeable). If we were to change it we would have to change potentially thousands of maps.

@Elli: I got this set of colors (gain/hold) for the major two parties, which are enough for national level maps, since other parties are just too small. They are at User:CX Zoom/TestPage16#PR, would you please check them to make sure that they go along with the other colors without issues. Finally, completed for 2020 results. Please check which one seems better. The first one is the linear one, i.e., all congressional districts appear as a series of numbers, with district 1 being the topmost left and then continuing from left to right, without any regard to geography. The second one roughly reflects the geography, however, as in any cartogram it doesn't really guarantee geographical accuracy. The legends and related information is in its commons page. Also I've requested a file move on the first one as you can see, that I've given completely different names to the two files. It'd be great if you could help. Thanks. Cheers! @CX Zoom: I've carried out the rename - though I may try adopting them to a new naming convention in the future (I'm working on a general convention for election related stuff, though I haven't added rules for cartograms yet). 1924 United States gubernatorial elections

I was using them while editing a page on my sandbox, however i have now uploaded to List of wars involving the Ottoman Empire. Hi Elli, I was looking at recent changes, and noticed that you are reviewing a lot of pages very quickly. Some of the pages you marked as reviewed don't have any sources, such as Boʻz District, Bagʻdod District and Dangʻara District. Whenever you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/MFD/TFD/etc.), please post a notification on the talk page of the page creator so they are aware of the deletion and also, the reason why a page has been tagged for deletion. Otherwise, they will not be aware of problems that existed and they might try to recreate the page. I find it useful to use Twinkle to tag pages because after you set up your Preferences to "Notify page creator", the program will post these notices for you which makes things easy. I reuploaded my map that contained the blue and red for the two respective states. IMO, despite your colors being official state colors, the colors chosen are, while also official state colors, are more prevalent among Americans thinking of each state. Thanks.

Can you help again?

Hi Elli, I need your help again. I just made some new templates among which are these three: {{Party shading/Text/Democratic}}, {{Party shading/Text/Republican}} and {{Party shading/Text/None}}. You can find their usage here: [1]. Basically, it is a template that shades a table cell with the party shading colors and returns the party name as text, however a customised text may also be produced by using the first (and only) parameter. I made them to reduce article sizes and reduce the chances of committing mistakes in tables, i.e., mismatch of colors & party name. Can you please add a documentation like in most {{Party shading/Democratic}} type templates, categorise them accordingly and also change template names if required. It's good to know that you're working on this field and are likely to take care of these items. So, I'll continue to use of these where needed. And maybe I'm being a bit picky, but I was wondering if {{Party shading/Republican/Text}} makes more sense than {{Party shading/Text/Republican}}, provided that the background color is just {{Party shading/Republican}} and the former option will make it a subpage of the actual party shading template. saving to draftspace

Hello, I need some help. How do I save the articles I'm working on directly to draftspace? All I see is publish which puts it in the main space which I don't want to do until the article is in better shape. Thanks!

@Klippi74: thanks for asking. When going to start an article, go to Draft:Title you want, not Title you want. Then, when you start it, you will be starting it as a draft. Later, you can move the page to be published as an article when you feel like it's sufficient, or submit it through WP:AFC if you would like more review (though that process can take a while). @Bostonite01310: oh, there's nothing to fix. A copyvio check is done using this tool - I've linked to the one of your article. While the percentage is high, the only things that are copied are quotes, falling under reasonable fair use (and therefore not an issue). @Bostonite01310: sure. First, go to Wikidata and search for the album using the search there. I couldn't find it, so click "Create a new Item" in the left sidebar. Thank you for trying to straighten this out btw. I'm not opposed to change at all, but I'm not too certain about the way to do it, so I wanted to start by expressing my reservations. I do think that potentially splitting out content could be useful - but again, inconsistency.
Well, there is more inconsistency (2016 United States House of Representatives election in Montana vs 2017 Montana's at-large congressional district special election), but good luck getting that resolved unless you want article titles like 2020 United States House of Representatives special election in Wisconsin's 7th congressional district... yikes! @Elli: Whoa! That was a pretty quick reply I'd say. Thanks for replying. Now, I'm not sure why would we be required to name a article with so long a name. I believe special elections have all used the format [year][constituency/district/riding][the words "by-election" or "special election"], and that could pretty much be included as a convention in WP:NCELECT, since special elections not just in US but also around the world use the same format like in UK. This is understandable, since only one type of election to ever be held in Wisconsin's 7th congressional district: congressional ones, and that goes without specifying. For 2017 United States Senate special election in Alabama, I think its important to mention the office name first because Alabama's upper house is also called the Senate. In articles where ambiguity may exist articles are named such as 2020 Toronto Centre federal by-election. @Elli: While state legislatures' usage of MMDs should be a real concern, I don't think it would ever have a practical effect on Wikipedia articles, as state legislative special elections never get an article of their own. @Elli: Hey, I think you'd then need to rename the cartograms I uploaded a few months back- File:2020 US House Election Results cartogram.svg and its 2018 counterpart, since the cartograms should, by that logic, be named as "2020 United States of Representatives elections results cartogram". @Elli: They simply didn't have a naming convention until recently on Commons. Plus Commons is rather disorganised unorganised than English WP. See for example the congressional districts map area on which I had been working lately [2]. Every time a new map is added, its added with a different naming convention. I would've renamed them to my naming convention (because my ones use names that are derivable from their respective articles' names), if I had the File mover rights, but I think I won't get them thanks to the files deletion warnings on my talk page, due to the naive me boldly uploading files on commons during my initial days on commons. smh. ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 17:52, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
