July 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Meters. I noticed that you made a comment on the page User talk:Toddst1 that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Meters (talk) 19:31, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well he shouldn’t have removed Robert McGovern who deserves respect Eddie1666666 (talk) 20:05, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It has nothing to do with whether or not he "deserves respect." He's notable, but his attendance at this school is not sourced. The alumni list had been tagged as needing sourcing for more than six months, so user:Toddst1 did nothing wrong in cleaning up the unsourced entries. Please add a reliable source and you can restore the entry. Meters (talk) 20:28, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually mr Mancabelli is leaving St. John’s see https://www.collegiate-va.org/our-school/our-leadership/head-of-school/incoming-head-of-school Eddie1666666 (talk) 01:03, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That says he will become the head of a different school in July 2024. It does not say that he is no longer the president of St. John's College High School. Meters (talk) 02:32, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to St. John's College High School, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. Meters (talk) 02:33, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at St. John's College High School, you may be blocked from editing. Stop adding the basketball material. We do not list conference titles, and the rest of the material on the coach's personal life does not belong in this article. Your previous attempt to add this was undone by user:Acroterion. Per WP:BRD you should have discussed this on the article's talk page rather than restoring it. Meters (talk) 02:39, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at St. John's College High School. Your claim of a title is unsourced, and you don't even specify what level of title it is. Meters (talk) 20:48, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Eddie1666666! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of St. John's College High School several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:St. John's College High School, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Stop adding the coach's personal information. This has already been explained to you.. Meters (talk) 20:49, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No Eddie1666666 (talk) 22:29, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t care Eddie1666666 (talk) 23:00, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may not care, but if you continue you will be reported for a block. Meters (talk) 23:11, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you remove Jerome McGovern Eddie1666666 (talk) 21:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at St. John's College High School. Would you please be more careful. You linked to the DAB Robert McGovern rather than to the article Robert M. McGovern, you added the wrong graduation year (both the cited source and the school's alumni page say he graduated in 1946, not 19481942, and his brother does not have an English Wikipedia article. Meters (talk) 21:53, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I can’t just leave out Jerome McGovern I mean do notable alumni really need to have a Wikipedia article Eddie1666666 (talk) 21:56, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We used to assume that having been awarded a country's high military award (The Award of Honor for the US) was sufficient to presume that a subject was notable, but no longer. In Jerome's case, he was awarded a Silver Star, so even under the old rule he would not have qualified for inclusion without an article. Meters (talk) 22:04, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey meters how do I change a picture because I have a picture of Robert McGovern Eddie1666666 (talk) 18:31, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Where did you get the picture? Based on your previous edits I suspect that you mean you found a picture on the web. You cannot simply upload an image you found somewhere. Unless you own the copyright (He died in 1951. Did you take the picture yourself?), you can show that the image it is freely licensed (Provide the source for the image and where we can see the applicable free license.), or you can show that it is in the public domain (Provide the source for the image and where we can verify that it is in the public domain.) you cannot upload the image to Commons. Since the person in question is dead it may be possible to make a case for a fair use exemption for its use in an article about the person, in which case the picture can be uploaded to English Wikipedia (not to Commons).
