Information icon Hello, I'm Jytdog. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Conflict of interest in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Drpeterdrill I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia, along with my regular editing about health and medicine. Your edits to date are adding references to the dieticle.com website. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

Information icon Hello, Drpeterdrill. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

Comments and requests[edit]

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest;; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some connection with dieticle.com? You can answer how ever you wish (giving personally identifying information or not), but if there is a connection, with dieticle.com, please disclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Please reply here - I am watching this page. Thanks! Jytdog (talk) 19:28, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No. I've just been surfing on their website and I found out that their content is outstanding and "scientifically" written and that could be a suitable reference for an encyclopedia. That was my first interaction with Wikipedia as an editor. Tomorrow it might be another website I might be surfing. That's it. However, if you think that the previous edits I made on these articles aren't meeting quality standard of Wikipedia, I really appreciate your input, as I joined for the same reason - to make Wikipedia even better. Thanks for your kind (and calm!) reply. We get so, so many people who come to Wikipedia to add spamlinks. Sorry for mistaking you for one of those editors. I will add a welcome message at the top of your page, inviting you to join Wikiproject Medicine, which tries to improve and maintain the quality of our content about health, and a note about sourcing below. Jytdog (talk) 22:10, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Remember that when adding medical content please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations. WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a build in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN. We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Jytdog (talk) 22:11, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
