Removal of content from Galloway Township, New Jersey[edit]

Your recent edits have removed extensive portions of sourced content from the article for Galloway Township, New Jersey, without any explanation for the removal. Please ensure that edits don't remove sourced content and please be sure that all edits provide a clear and concise edit summary explaining your changes. Given the extensive removals of content, the changes have been reverted. Alansohn (talk) 21:23, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More re Galloway Township[edit]

The biggest concern that I have with your edits to the Galloway Township article is the removal of sourced content. Can you explain why several individuals listed under Notable residents were "delted for irrelevancy"? I'd love to see the article meaningfully improved but removing sourced content without proper justification and adding other unsupported claims are issues that cannot be ignored. Please reply here or on my user talk page. Alansohn (talk) 03:36, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What I have done is reinserted sourced material, references and other standardized templates to conform with the other articles statewide. Your recent edits removed a number of updates and references regarding population. Standard templates have been updated for all 40 state legislative districts, and are designed to allow all of the municipalities in the district to be updated in one sweep by updating the templates rather than updating the same content in each individual article. Feel free to move and add material (with appropriate sources, of course), but try to avoid deleting sources, references and templates in the article. Even more re Galloway Township[edit]

Your recent change to the article for Galloway Township, New Jersey removed relevant sourced content from the lead paragraph of the article. Just as the 2010 population will be discussed later in the article, as will details about area, details about recent population changes over the most recent decennial censuses are relevant details to be included in the lead, as they are included for the vast majority of articles for other municipalities. There is no reason for the removal of this information, or similar sourced content in other articles. Add content. Reword content. Add sources. But please don't removed sourced content. A few questions regarding your latest edits to the article for Galloway Township, New Jersey. 1) The Mayor, Manager and Clerk all have specific administrative roles in the township; The Deputy Mayor has none. Why bother listing the Deputy Mayor in the infobox? 2) When noting that Galloway Township is the state's largest municipality, why is it necessary to add "(and therefore township)", and not "(and municipality starting with the letter G)" or any other such distinction? Largest is largest, and specifying that it's the largest township seems to add nothing. 3) I'm glad that you reached out to me on my talk page? Why not discuss these changes, as suggested by User:Drmies when he reverted a series of edits you made earlier this morning? Please understand that there is lots of room for finding a middle ground that we can all be happy with here and that communicating on talk pages for users or for the article is the best way to do that. Your edits to Galloway Township, NJ[edit]

I am writing you as you yet again deleted my revisions to Galloway Township. Your insistence on adding the population changes in the introduction is totally unnecessary. This information is already included under the demographics section of the article and with you adding it, you are only repeating information. Also, an introduction is a broad overview, not an in depth detailed paragraph. The introduction needs to read as it does with my edit because many people confuse neighboring Hamilton Township as the largest municipality in the state. That is why (and therefore township) belongs in the introduction, the clarify which township is bigger. You also continuously delete the information next to the Township Manager (Arch Liston) for no reason. The date is included so it can serve as a reference point to those who view the article.

I see the information that you added to the info box on the right side of the article, although the information is a bit excessive, I will not delete it. I ask you to show the same courtesy to my edits. If you continue to undo my edits, I will keep on re-adding them. We went over this same issue a month ago, for some reason you decided it was time again to re do my edits. I have been a lifelong resident of this township, therefore I believe I know what I am doing to the article.

Please stop fiddling with my edits. Djbutala93 (talk) 22:45, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I will continue to fiddle with your edits. You will continue to fiddle with mine. Your residence in the township, no matter how long, has no relevance here. You don't WP:OWN this article and neither do I. There are 566 municipalities in New Jersey, for which consensus has been reached on what information is included and what is not. Deputy Mayors are not listed in infoboxes, primarily because they have no governemntal function whatsoever unless the mayor resigns or is removed from office; Until that happens, the deputy mayor is not needed in the infobox and is listed elsewhere in the article. Population trends are listed in almost all articles, and the rapid growth of a community like Galloway Township is relevant in the lead, even if it is listed elsewhere just like all content in the article, and should be reinserted here. Let's address the two most points of your insistence: 1) Month and year that manager took office. It's not listed for any other municipal manager statewide, nor is it relevant. All that's of importance is *who* the manager is. If there is any relevance to when he was hired, it probably belongs in the text of the article, if at all. 2) Galloway Township is the largest municipality in New Jersey. It is the largest township, and is also the largest municipality in the county, and the largest that starts with the letter "G" and the largest with three syllables. It's the largest in the whole entire state, so it's the largest no matter how you slice it. My preferred wording is "Galloway Township is the largest municipality in New Jersey", while you prefer "Galloway Township is the largest municipality (and therefore township) in the State of New Jersey". The Galloway Township article makes it clear that Galloway is the largest in the state and that same statement is in the article for Hamilton Township. The wording that "Galloway Township is the largest municipality (and therefore township) in the State of New Jersey" is not only redundant, but extremely awkwardly worded and entirely unnecessary. We work by consensus here on Wikipedia, and we need to resolve this between us or we could reach out to other editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey among other outlets. But insisting that you will simply re-add material because you deem it correct doesn't work here. I hope that you will have some constructive discussion for your edits so that we can achieve a mutually agreeable consensus. Alansohn (talk) 03:49, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Galloway follow-up[edit]

I've been offline for 72 of the past 96 hours, so I haven't had a chance to digest your latest thoughts. I know that you feel very attached to Galloway Township and to how you believe it should be presented. You would benefit greatly from becoming more involved in editing other articles for communities across the state and all over Wikipedia. My fervor for all things New Jersey may have led me to start WP:NJ, but I can assure you that it's far from being "my" club in any way; It is mostly quiet, but there are many other editors updating these articles with whom you may well gain insights about editing these articles. You will hear from me in the not to distant future, but I have a lot of catching up to do. Alansohn (talk) 15:27, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to Galloway Township, NJ[edit]

Could you please offer an explanation as to why you undid my edits?

I can see that there is a conflict with the location of the surrounding municipalities in the geo table. I have given you the following link to look over to confirm that their location was correct as I put it:

http://www.gallowaytwp-nj.gov/gis/GallowayStreetMap.pdf

Also, I see that you deleted the notable resident that I added last night, this article confirms the valid claim that he was a resident:

Please look over the links and comment on any ideas you may have. I will revert the changes to what I had.

  • I didn't undo your edits or remove the notable, I added the source, which happens to be the exact same article you're referring to. Please remember to add the source in the future when you add notables to this or any other article. The locations look reasonable and I'm not sure that the geography table needs a source, but I will see if it can be added. Alansohn (talk) 17:43, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Still here?[edit]

Are you still active writing on New Jersey, you can help decide what makes a mayor notable, and whether we should have or not have lists of mayors of locations. Leave a message on my talk page to let me know that you are still active and interested in the debate. --RAN (talk) 05:49, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
