Proposals[edit]

I've been seeing other proposals in the council and it appears that they hardly get any discussion going on. I think we should just start the project ourselves. You already wrote a nice lede for it in the proposal, so I could use it. I will start this project, and if it doesn't work for some reason, I take full responsibility.

Awesome sounds good! Did you create the project yet? I can't seem to find it. Also, I like the logo – the design is great. It seems a bit pixelated though, maybe it could be saved at a higher resolution? Isn't this the same as Wikipedia:WikiProject Lead section cleanup? Why not just revive that one or at least merge the two. Volunteers are spread very thin here and the more coherency the better. There was some discussion about this on the new project's talk page. I have already suggested a merger and have contacted the members of the old team asking if they are still interested. Some of them haven't been active for years though, so I'm not holding my breath. I am awaiting feedback on whether merging ours into theirs or theirs into ours would be best. Their old page is rather barren and it looks like their project never got off the ground, so my preference would be to merge theirs into ours.  DiscantX 00:38, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I hear you but I'm not so sure it's necessary to tack on wikiproject to the end. Look at the Guild of Copyeditors. Throwing wikiproject on the end of that is unsightly too. I think the solution is to just not say wikiproject or to say something like "the wikiproject (that is named) Lede Improvement Ieam."  DiscantX 05:38, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am pretty new to wikipedia, and I saw that a few of my pages were patrolled by you. I looked at the wikipedia page about patrolled pages, but I am still a bit confused as to what this means. CiKay, any time an editor creates a new page on Wikipedia, even if it is a user page or a talk page, it is added to a list of pages to be "patrolled," which can be found at Special:NewPagesFeed. Often people will come here and create pages that aren't appropriate for Wikipedia, so this is our way of saying "Yes, someone has reviewed this page and found it fits here." If it doesn't fit here, then we take appropriate action, such as suggesting it be deleted.
The other night when I patrolled your pages I felt like doing some 'easy' work so I was patrolling just user pages, as those are usually pretty easy to tell if they break any rules off the bat. Warning templates[edit]

RFD, you can actually add them by hand. Most of them should be found at Category:User warning templates. The easiest way though is to install Twinkle, which will give you a handy menu at the top of your screen when you are on a user's talk page, so you can just select the most appropriate one. In case you didn't know, there are generally 4 levels of warnings, with 4 being the final warning. After a 4th level warning, it's usually acceptable to report the user at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.  DiscantX 20:26, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response : Provocation and poking[edit]

I was going to take a break for a few days till things settle down, but I want to refer to DiscantX statement that, "Tetra has been "poked." His comments on his talk page should never have been struck (I almost reverted that myself, but again, I didn't want to get involved), which though I don't think is a fact that is being disputed actually... it appeared to me to be a provocation." [1]

I presume you are referring to me in causing the provocation here. I refute the fact that he was provoked into this action, as this User had the opportunity to revert the offending edits. He did not do so, and had ample time to correct it by a retraction (striking). He was advised under WP:REMOVEUNCIVIL that clearly says; "In the event of rudeness or incivility on the part of another editor, it may be appropriate to discuss the offending words with that editor, and to request that editor to change that specific wording. Some care is necessary, however, so as not to further inflame the situation. It is not normally appropriate to edit or remove another editor's comment. Exceptions include to remove obvious trolling or vandalism, or if the comment is on your own user talk page. Derogatory comments about another contributor may be removed by any editor."

Saying "Look: F--- off. Who the f--- do you think you are, you little s—?" by this user is derogatory, and frankly plainly insulting. Insulting is apparently fine, but derogatory statements are not.

Yet this is clearly already provocative (a derogatory too), and it made me feel annoyed, angry and insulted. Yet, multiple times this user had ignore the requests to correct the statements, so this justified me evoking WP:REMOVEUNCIVIL.

I choose not to be bullied into feeling this way. (That's my 'right', too.)

The statement "Honestly, you're the only one who seem to care about something that passed almost unnoticed." [2] The reason I care is that the derogative remark was directed at ME, and the only reason he cared about keeping it was "I don't have the obligation to allow an user to arbitrarily modify my own messages in my own talk page."[3], "All I wanted was to make use of my right to keep my talk page messages as I wanted them to be, and that's just it."[4], and that "I, several times, say that I don't want to discuss such a trivial issue."[5] or "Also, I said a dozen times I din't want to get into a discussion." [6]

If this can't be discussed, is dismissed as trivial, and feels they are not obliged to change it, the WP:REMOVEUNCIVIL was my only option left.

This user says to John; "Do you understand that people get angry when they are poked?" [7]

Yes I do, because the response to this issue is exactly as I feel. Leaving derogatory insults and not retracting them is also 'poking' and a 'provocation'?

In the end, refusing to remove this means he actually believes it, and thus clearly breaking and bluntly ignoring WP:CIV. The five pillars of wisdom says "Editors should treat each other with respect and civility:" [8] and is a fundamental pillar of Wikipedia.

Saying on my User Page "To conclude, I'd like to say that the main reason why I don't want the text striked is that I am not very fond of ariane, and I don't want to see him making changes on my page." [9] confirms not acting in WP:GF.

So. What actual harm is being done to Wikipedia here?

Derogatory remarks do hurt people, and dissuades them from editing. I.e. I've said regarding editing Cosmology pages, "Even my own recent edits have backed off on these subjects to avoid open conflict." and "…I fear the possible accusation of WP:HARASSMENT here, but the central issue comes back to my ability of editing cosmology and astronomy articles." [10]

But what is worse here, is the derogatory statements are still there. (I don't know how to fix this now, especially if I'm somehow accused of 'poking.' Suggestion?)

(Perhaps if TQ was only to state he is willing to remove all of them himself, it would be a great indication of goodwill towards civility. It is his decision alone.)

Here, I wanted to be absolutely crystal clear about what has happened.

Note: I am quite disturbed that you think my actions here are my own 'provocation.' If you do think strongly that this was my own deliberate 'provocation' and needs to be discussed, (assuming through WP:HARASSMENT WP:CIV or even WP:GAMING, etc.), then using the WP:ANI path is probably best. (I'd prefer to avoid that, though.)
Note 2: As for the 3RR, I was absolutely guilty as changed charged, mainly because I was quite disrespectful to [11] Yunshui who had told me to stop. I sincerely regret this, and mean it. (This ban should not have been lifted, actually.) Regardless of the circumstances, 3RR battles seemingly means that someone ends up hurt, and it can have consequences on many users, especially confidence in an editor's sincerity. I will now try and be a better editor.
Note 3: As for saying on my own User page. "Oh and btw, enjoy your block.", well it is a bit childish, but just openly reenforces the other derogatory remarks I want to be retracted. This user actually can solve all this in a nanosecond, by being proper enough to show good faith WP:GF, by just simply fixing these statements and realise he has to respect (and continue to respect) his fellow editors. Just showing a little hint of contrition rather than pounding people into the ground claiming one's 'rights', and he could do as he pleases. (I've already promised I'd avoid his User page.)
Note 4: Please feel free to point out if I have been derogatory or uncivil in any of my recent statements. If I have, I will not hesitate to correct and retract them, and properly offer my formal apologies directly to those presumably I've offended without reservation.
