Requested moves

Hi Yongblood,

As per Wikipedia:Requested moves, "Discussion to find consensus is encouraged for page moves requested on this page. Requested moves may be implemented if there is a Wikipedia community consensus (generally 60% or more) supporting the moving of an article after five (5) days under discussion on the talk page of the article to be moved, or earlier at the discretion of an administrator. The time for discussion may be extended if a consensus has not emerged." As per that, I would wait five days from the formal start of the proposed move discussion at Talk:De La Salle Secondary School before assessing if consensus exists or not. So that'd be...July 18. I'd encourage you to check out Wikipedia:Consensus itself, the article should clear up what constitues consensus and what doesn't. Best, Kurieeto 17:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I know. That is why I mentionned it -- you still hadn't changed from the old name. I just didn't know just how much you distanced yourself from your old username. --Stephane Charette 01:16, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

User page

BONJOUR! FIRST OF ALL ITS MY USER PAGE AND I WILL DO WHATEVER I WANT WITH IT!! NEVER SUGGEST OR TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH MY USER PAGE!! --Little Spike

Ok, now you are on my user page. Little introduction to Wiki : usually you have to create a section when you post on someone's user page. Second, please to not use caps lock as this is considered as yelling, and third, please do not forget to sign your comments when you are not on your userpage.

Now calm down, cheez.--Deenoe 02:58, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

OMG!! lol! Anyways, Your from Ottawa? I live in Toronto! -- Little Spike

Oh Toronto is awsome, but the busy part gets kinda annoying after a while. I'm planning to make my user discussion board into a chat! I know people here are a little to serious. -- Little Spike

Oh okay I'll just erase it every day! LOL

Sprotection

In regards to this edit: you can't sprotect a page just by putting a template on it; you actually have to have to be an administrator (like me). That template is just used as notifiction that the page has been protected. By the way, this page isn't going to be protected because it's currently linked from the main page, and we have a weird rule that pages from the main page aren't protected unless they are the target of exceptional vandalism. --Cyde↔Weys 03:06, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Talk page 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict

You just messed up the talk page a bunch. You removed one of my comments along with a whole lot of other stuff. I guess this was a mistake?--Paraphelion 05:03, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

A couple of us fixed it. Here is a diff of your edits : [1]--Paraphelion 13:11, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
A few other people said they had similar problems when trying to edit the talk page so it might not be your fault at all. It may help to use the preview thing.--Paraphelion 13:20, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Are you looking at the right thing. According to that difference link, the stuff on the right side with a green background is what you added, along with your signatures, on the left side is what went missing.--Paraphelion 13:22, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
The preview would have been long, perhaps - but you don't necessarily have to look at the whole thing, it might just give you an idea that something is wrong when you see it is that long. I see large areas of text on the right side with the green background that you did not sign, so presumably that is stuff that is from the error?--Paraphelion 13:24, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
I guess that was part of the error then, seeing as how you were not getting your 15 year old acting student self drunk yesterday.--Paraphelion 13:26, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
The Obsidian guy reverted it so it's fixed(i think).--Paraphelion 13:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh I see... I don't think it was that at all.. it's just a bug/server problem. Other people had problems with this talk page, and also it looks like random junk rather than like someone trying to pretend to be you.--Paraphelion 14:29, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, my post voting on the image wasn't a reply to you. I meant it as an argument should anyone else read it before they vote.--Paraphelion 18:42, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh I see. Well it's a good effort, but I think it will still be seen as biased.--Paraphelion 18:53, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
It's two images, but one is Israeli attacking and the other is Lebanon damage. So there's nothing about Hezbollah attacking or damage in Israel.--Paraphelion 19:00, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Terms of the GFDL

In regards to Image:2006LebIsraelpic.jpg: Under the terms of the GFDL you have to provide sources (links) to the images used and the creators of those images. GFDL isn't public domain; all GFDL images are copyrighted by their creators, the GFDL just allows reuse, distribution, and modification under certain conditions. You still need to give credit to who made the originals. Also, please use edit summaries, you've been making a lot of edits to the conflict article with no edit summaries. Thank you. --Cyde↔Weys 17:48, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Okay, let me be specific. You can't just say "both pictures were taken from Wikipedia". You need to provide links to the exact pictures that were used so that other people can verify that those pictures were released under the GFDL and also find out who the creators of the works are. Don't tell me this stuff on my talk page; add it to the image description page, that's where it belongs. --Cyde↔Weys 18:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

One of those pictures, which has been uploaded from a website by Deenoe without proper clearence (does the website owner actually have the right to the picture, for instance), is already tagged for speedy deletion. Thomas Blomberg 18:18, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Two aggressions

Sorry, didn't see your comment. Just saw two pictures, both of which saw "Israeli aggresssion". I could find some picture of injured Israelis, but not sure about how the copyright stuff works here and don't wanna bother with it too much. And BTW, those pictures get added/remoed/changed every ten minutes so I figure why bother (unless it is way too much....). No picture is much easier and more NPOV....Good day, mate

Yeah, I think the map is the best, but unforutnately, as I said, they will keep changing it. I'm not bothering with that anymore. Tweekerd 18:01, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Beirut_destruction.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Beirut_destruction.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

About Image:Attack on Haifa1.jpg

The picture of Haifa that you used is in copyright violation, see [2]. I was told just today "Taking pictures that are owned by news agencies like AP is an absolute no/no". ArmanJan 19:56, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Related, so I'll post this here: If you (or anyone else) insists on putting a picture of rocket-damaged Haifa in the article, please do so elsewhere than at the very top. Refer to my edit summaries: by almost overwhelming int'l consensus, judging by news stories alone, this war is very much more about Beirut than about Haifa. I'm not saying this picture (Haifa) shouln't be used at all: just not at the very top of the article. +ILike2BeAnonymous 20:09, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Since you're throwing out the usual Wiki-POV accusations, I suggest you read this section of the "talk" page on the article. Sometimes there aren't two sides to a story; sometimes there are many more than two. I think you're striving for a false Wiki-equivalence imposed on this situation. +ILike2BeAnonymous 20:41, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
You wrote to me:
Well, if Destruction happended on both sides, we should show both.
You still don't get it. Yes, destruction on both sides (nobody disputes that), but not equivalent destruction (which hardly anyone disputes); but your juxtaposition of those pictures (Haifa & Beirut) implies just such equivalence. Think about it before spouting sophomoric nonsense (apologies if you are a sophomore, but you've got a few things to learn about the world yet). +ILike2BeAnonymous 20:48, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
At the risk of seeming obvious, you have heard that saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words", right? +ILike2BeAnonymous 20:58, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Beirut&Haifa.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Beirut&Haifa.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:05, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Welcoming users

Please ensure your welcomes are posted to the talk page of new users, and not the actual user page. An example of an incorrect post is User:Jersky. Keep up your good work. Cheers. -- Longhair 01:08, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Welcomes

Normally you want to place the welcome on the Talk page, not the user page. If you put it on the User page they don't get the "You have new messages (last change)" bar. They may not notice it for quite a while. Fan-1967 01:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Beslan School hostage crisis

Kit car

Why did you just revert the Kit car article back to a vandalised version of the page? From a look at the history of the article, or from the article's talk page, you can see that three users (myself, User:Malcolma and User:Liftarn) have been reverting the additions made by an anonymous user IP in Germany, who has repeatedly been adding in a huge block of text. This text, copy/pasted straight from the German Wikipedia article, already exists in the article. However, it has been properly translated by User:Malcolma, and the links now conform to Wikipedia guidelines. Please either offer comment on the article's talk page, or restore the previous version. -- DeLarge 15:03, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

What's that faint sound in the distance? It's the CARE-mobile leaving!. You think you care about the world just because you create nerdy articles about your school? Noone cares. Terry Kilrea

Hello Deenoe. You recently mentioned on the talk page for WikiProject Ottawa that Terry Kilrea was a member of an ill-reputed organization. FYI, I have edited your comment to remove that statement. The policy on Biographies of Living Persons requires that unsourced negative information about people be removed from both articles and talk pages alike. This isn't personal or partisan, just policy. I hope you understand. -Joshuapaquin 02:58, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Deenoe

I've deleted the OC Transpo routes... Could I make a suggestion? Why not move your Shiv Chopra stub to the mainspace, add {{ottawa-bio-stub}} and advertise it on Wikipedia: WikiProject Ottawa. I'm sure a few people will start expanding it (YUL89YYZ is on the ball for categorization and Kingboy's bot is tagging all the biographies for assessment right now). Even if it's a short blurb, I think it would do well, and we could get it on WP:DYK in a few days! Think about it... Cheers -- Samir धर्म 22:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Deenoe, I added some references and a little bit on the racial discrimination history at the beginning of your article (it looks a lot bigger, but it's mainly the references). I put the article up for DYK at T:DYKT; hopefully it's on the main page soon. Do you have a free picture of Dr. Chopra that we can add to the article (it would be great if we can get that on the main page). Cheers -- Samir धर्म 10:52, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

The gold watch pic would be eligible for the article as fair use, but unfortunately, I don't think it can be on the main page. Was on call last night, have to go and round on my patients now. Take care -- Samir धर्म 10:58, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Your VandalProof Application

Dear Deenoe,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. Prodego talk 13:53, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Deenoe, I've been thinking of re-writing Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario, and as you can see it has been on my "todo" list for some time. My goal was to get it done before school starts 2nd week of September. Instead of just listing all of the schools in the school board -- all but 2 of which are currently redlinks -- I was hoping we could take the article more towards the standard described at WP:EiC, somewhat like the other 3 public French-language school boards in Ontario (CSDCSO, CSDGNO, CSDNE). This would also mean that schools themselves would be linked from {{CÉPEOSchools}}, just like we have {{CSDCSOSchools}}, {{CSDGNOSchools}}, and {{CSDNESchools}}. The key here would be the use of {{Canadian School District}} and {{Navbox Education in Canada}} to bring the article up to standards. What do you think?

Well the {{bv}} vandalism warning is available, but I recommend using test1 then 2, ect, because some people think it is funny to add what seems to be "obvious vandalism" as a joke. For extremely serious vandalism (personal info, attacks) you can use more specific templates ({{npa3}} and {{pinfo4}}), or {{test4im}}. Prodego talk 02:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Yellowbirdproject

Hi Deenoe, you did all the right things. Naconkantari deleted the Yellow Bird Project page and I think I got all all of the images. Speedy tags often get deleted; if they get deleted a second time, I find one way to deal with it is to wait a little bit of time before putting the speedy up again. Usually if an administrator is on RC patrol, they can see what's going on based on your edit summary. If there's recurrent abuse like that and no one is coming around and you've maximized your test messages, the go to WP:AIV which get's checked quite frequently.

Don't worry about sockpuppets, there are thousands of them around here. As long as they don't start doing abusive things, or start !voting on the same AfD/RfA/etc., we usually just ignore them. If they do start getting out of hand, put up a notice on WP:RFCU, which will ask for a CheckUser (a special administrator that can look at the IP addresses) to see if they are the same person.

The best advice I can give you on vandalism is that it's ok if vandalism stays up for a few minutes. Sometimes a little bit of time will get a vandal bored.

Keep up the good work with VandalProof. -- Samir धर्म 01:46, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
