Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Rock music, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your edit summary was "Deleted a line that was previously mentioned", but that's not accurate. The preceding phrase is "The 2010s saw a slow decline in rock music's mainstream popularity and cultural relevancy, with hip hop surpassing it as the most popular genre in the United States." The phrase you removed is "rock was the most popular music genre in the United States and much of the Western world from the 1950s to the late 2010s." The two phrases are not identical. Hyphens in genres

Generally, the hyphen is for adjectival usage only, for instance "the pop-punk band" has a hyphen, but "the band has been called pop punk" without a hyphen. I've reverted you numerous times, partly for the reason that what you're adding is not a proper list-forming bullet point, and partly because a pipe is preferred. Some of the wording in the lead section is not encyclopedic at all, looking as if it had been written by a middle schooler.
