Thank you, - one article written usually generates three red links ... - I wanted to write Prayer for Ukraine, after I heard it again, but for a change, it was already there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:50, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Administrator activity policy update

Hello, Dank. This message is to let you know about a change to the administrator policy:

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work. — xaosflux Talk 20:30, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks ... I saw it but I get that it's important to get this onto every admin's talk page. - Dank (push to talk) 20:40, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

94th Academy Awards FLC

Hi there,

Could you do a source review for the 94th Academy Awards regarding its featured list promotion? I would appreciate the feedback.

--Birdienest81talk 20:34, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know how to do FLC source reviews. - Dank (push to talk) 21:36, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I meant just a general review. User:Aza24 or User:Z1720 is handling the source review. Could you just do a proofread of the list?
--Birdienest81talk 07:56, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
I'd like to see one more support first. - Dank (push to talk) 12:35, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Okay, you got a support and another review this morning ... you probably won't need another review, but I'll keep it watchlisted just in case. - Dank (push to talk) 15:18, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

Help edit TFA Blub?

Hi Dank, thanks for your help editing the TFA blurb for Amador Valley High School at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Today%27s_featured_article/October_20,_2022.

I do have one requested correction. Could you help update the blub to say that the school received 2nd in Robosub in 2022 (instead of 2021)? This is the source (also in the article): https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/News-Stories/Article/3123762/25th-annual-robosub-competition-showcases-an-autonomous-future/

I don't seem to be able to edit the blurb myself anymore. Deltawk (talk) 01:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Great. Already done. - Dank (push to talk) 01:27, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! Deltawk (talk) 01:27, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Giants2008 (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:25, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Your use of rollback

Please see WP:ROLLBACK: Use of standard rollback for any other purposes – such as reverting good-faith changes which you happen to disagree with – is likely to be considered misuse of the tool.

I'd like an explanation for this. --BorgQueen (talk) 19:38, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

I haven't been looking at WP within the last hour (which is when that edit happened). No one else has access to my account. But I was moving my mouse out of the way sometime around then; the only thing I can think of is that it must have made some very unlikely clicks while I was doing it. Sorry about that. Obviously, there was nothing wrong with your edit. - Dank (push to talk) 20:02, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh ok lol. What a naughty mouse! 🐁 --BorgQueen (talk) 20:05, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
FWIW, I've been here 15 years this month with 120k+ edits and this has never happened before. OTOH ... how weird is it that it made a random edit to a page that happens to be displayed on the Main Page today? It's very unlikely that anyone could have guessed my password, but I'll keep a sharp eye out for any other unexplained edits. - Dank (push to talk) 20:08, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
I think it's very unlikely I've been hacked or my acct has been compromised ... but I'll go report the incident at WP:AN just to be super-safe. - Dank (push to talk) 20:17, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Dank, I don't think you need to go to AN for what was almost certainly a misclick. If someone compromised your account, they would have done something impactful. :-) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 20:40, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Ed. Haven't seen you in a long time, what are you up to these days? We've been writing some lists and trying to get some gardening projects started. - Dank (push to talk) 20:43, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Finding myself with ever-dwindling time to edit, that's for sure! I'm in Milwaukee these days with a fiancée and a house, with all the projects the latter implies. What's a couple of your favorite lists that you've been working on? Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 06:19, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Sounds very domestic, I'm happy for you. If you're interested in my humble lists ... WP:Featured list candidates/List of commelinid families/archive1 needs a review. (Some of these plant families have a high-powered type of photosynthesis called C4 ... so high-powered that they succeeded in cooling down the planet when they evolved 33 million years ago ... hopefully they can do it again!) The other list is List of lilioid monocot families ... still working on that one in user-space, but hopefully that will be up at WP:FLC in a couple of weeks. - Dank (push to talk) 14:49, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! And I can definitely take a look this week. :-) It's fascinating (and maybe a bit concerning?) how many of our food crops are from this single family! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 07:20, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Invitation to join the Fifteen Year Society

Dear Dank/Archive 85,

I'd like to extend a cordial invitation to you to join the Fifteen Year Society, an informal group for editors who've been participating in the Wikipedia project for fifteen years or more.

Best regards, Chris Troutman (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Lists

Hi, Dan. I think you do amazing work, and your commitment to these lists is wonderful. I know my comments on reviews often leave out the positive strokes. I realize that after the fact because I get so involved in the non-human part that I forget the person behind the scenes. I really apologize for that. You deserve all good things. Thank you for asking me to take a look. If you would be interested in me editing previous lists to make multiple images in each cell line up and be the same height as I did on the commelinids one, I'd be happy to in my spare time. I don't want to barge in anymore than I already have, though. For what it's worth, I have a hard time focusing on a smaller part of a review for FA and FL than a whole review for GA, which is why my comments tend to go all over the place, be overwhelming, and overdo it. Nothing I said was meant to cause defensiveness, if that matters, and tone is so difficult to express in writing. (Knowing shortcomings doesn't necessarily keeping one from having them.) Peace. – Elizabeth (Eewilson) (tag or ping me) (talk) 19:30, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Thanks, not a problem. There's only one other list in the series, and I made some basic changes to it this morning. I'll take another look and see if there's anything else I can change that wouldn't require running the changes by the previous reviewers. But WP:FAOWN doesn't apply to WP:FLC ... that is, you or anyone else can edit that list at any time, I don't own the list. - Dank (push to talk) 01:15, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Done (with making edits to the previous list based on edits made to the current WP:FLC). - Dank (push to talk) 01:15, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Hey, Dan. I'm good to go with the list and said so on the FL talk page. When you have a list of the families and type genera for the asterids, let me know, and I can start collecting images if you wish. Great work on that list, as always. – Elizabeth (Eewilson) (tag or ping me) (talk) 08:11, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

Images at FLC

@Eewilson: Thanks, and thanks for the support. You're very welcome to review my FLC lists any time, and very welcome to make whatever edits you want to make to the lists after they emerge (successfully or unsuccessfully) from FLC (and it's very unlikely that I'll revert your or anyone else's edits at that point; I might do some minor copyediting). I'm going to avoid the temptation to diagnose the problems that FLC is having these days, I've seen enough diagnosing in my 15 years here to know that it never works, so I'll just bottom-line it: I'm not going to add any images to future lists (apart from one or two in the intro), and if someone else adds images before FLC, I won't nominate the list. If people add images after the list is promoted and they can successfully defend their choices, great. But ever since the addition of a requirement for image reviews, it's been hard, and in some cases impossible, to find image reviewers. (Of course, there's no shame in this or any other pervasive problems at FLC ... some problems just aren't immediately fixable, despite heroic efforts. Some day, we'll get it right.) - Dank (push to talk) 14:29, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
