Chicago style question

Hey Dank, what is the proper way in Chicago to handle citations like this? (the Conway's ref) Should I split the references into Preston and Schenia? I know that I'm missing page numbers for the chapters still, but aside from that, I'm not sure if this is the correct way to cite this. It's 15.1 - 15.19; nothing in there specifically says not to do that, except the general instructions to list each entry with the author's name first, which I think probably means not to do what you're doing there. - Dank (push to talk) 00:03, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) and Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is New South Wales Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Connecticut Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. I do copyediting at ACR when an article seems to me to be approaching its final version. Since there are currently two opposes that are suggesting the article needs to be expanded with material from a wider range of sources, it's not time to copyedit it yet. - Dank (push to talk) 21:39, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Could you then take a look at something quite far from naval matters? Opto-isolator has been copy-edited, but (a nod to your recent bit of wisdom at WT:SHIPS) there are still eight buts remaining, two in the lead. I'm not sure if passages like "They contain a single physical isolation barrier, but provide protection equivalent to double isolation." are acceptable or not (the sentence is a paraphrase of the source: "Reinforced isolation is a single isolation system that provides protection equivalent to double insulation... reinforced isolation ... is provided only by [them]". [1]) East of Borschov 07:57, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Asking for a comment in a Move Page request

Hello there! There is an article called "Argentina-Brazil War", it's about an international conflict that occurred between 1825 and 1828 between the Empire of Brazil and the United Provinces of South America over the possession of the Brazilian province of Cisplatina (which had a mixed Portuguese and Spanish population). The problem is that is was never called "Argentina-Brazil War". An editor probably created this name for it.

Thus, I proposed the name to be changed for "Cisplatine War" because it is "the name which is most commonly used to refer to the subject of the article in English-language reliable sources" (WP:COMMONNAME). A few examples: [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24], [25], [26], [27], [28], [29], [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], etc...

SMS ship names

I raised a query with Parsecboy after an exchange of edits at SMS Konig (and some others) (see here) and he suggested I ask you.

We had objections to every way we tried to do it, until we did it this way, and then we had a long string of FACs where no one objected. I believe the thinking was: most readers don't click on most links, even when they should, so linking the explanation would mean that most readers won't even know what the first sentence of the article means. - Dank (push to talk) 14:50, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Mustang Maniacs Page

Hello! I was planning on creating a Wikipedia page for my college's student spirit group, the Mustang Maniacs, but it looks like someone in May 2009 tried to create a page and it was deleted due to, what it looks like, lack of sources and lack of Google hits. A lot has changed in the year and a half since the last article and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Mustang Maniacs have six of the ten top hits in Google as well as a page being created for the Golden Horseshoe rivalry trophy, a DI FCS football trophy passed between Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Davis, taken care of by Cal Poly's Mustang Maniacs and their rival group, UC Davis's Aggie Pack (who have a page). The protection and restoration of the Cal Poly P, a landmark of San Luis Obispo county and a nationally recognized historical place, is also taken care of by the Mustang Maniacs as well as more common activities with Cal Poly Athletics, such as lighting the P the Friday before and the Saturday right after a home football game, taking care of Cal Poly's mascot Musty the Mustang, and being the official student section at all Cal Poly athletic events, including football and basketball. The Mustang Maniacs also work Cal Poly's Alumni Association, providing an important link between athletics and alumni. The Mustang Maniacs do a lot of work for the university and I would love the chance to create a page for the organization. The page will also link / contribute to Battle for the Golden Horseshoe, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Mustangs football, Aggie Pack, and the The Cal Poly "P" as well as have sources from the Mustang Daily, San Luis Obispo Tribune, the Aggie Pack website, and Cal Poly Athletic's official website.
