Welcome[edit]

Hello Daniel Tran, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your interest in contributing to our project. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please remember to sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which automatically produces your name and the current time and date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or feel free to ask me on my talk page. And if you need help, just put {{helpme}} on your user talk page. Again, welcome! --TantalumTelluride 04:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IRC[edit]

Thanks for the questions. I don't use IRC very much, but I can try to point you in the right diretion. There are a few ways you can get started. First, if you want to be a "real" IRC user, then you'll have to download an IRC client. You can use Wikipedia's list of IRC clients to find one that's right for you. Alternatively, if you don't want to go to the trouble of downloading software, there are a couple of free "normal" web-based programs that allow you to sneak into IRC without any special downloads. One of them can be found at http://yossman.net/byxnet/webchat.freenode/irc.cgi. After clicking on the link, just type in a user name and a channel, and you're ready to start. (The main channels for Wikipedia are #wikipedia and #wikipedia-en.) For more information, see Wikipedia:IRC and Meta:IRC.

You also asked about editing help. According to your contributions page, you have successfully edited four pages, including the sandbox. Here is the sandbox before you edited it, and here it is after you edited it. Notice the difference at the bottom of the page. You can see the changes you've made in what we Wikipedians call a diff. The diff for your edit to the sandbox is at [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Sandbox&diff=prev&oldid=45078912. You can access all the diffs to a page by clicking on the page's history tab.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions, or feel free to seek help somewhere else if you need a quicker response. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 14:03, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Starting a new article[edit]

Since your Wikipedia account is about ten days old now, you should be able to start a new article simply by clicking on a red link, such as Standard wire gauges. Alternatively, you can go to Help:Starting a new page and then submit the article's title. For some information about preferred formatting and style, see Wikipedia:Your first article. Don't worry too much about format, though. Other editors will eventually come along and improve or expand your article. Before you begin, you should probably check out the articles in Category:Wire gauges to see what kinds of articles Wikipedia already has in the category. Please let me know if you run into any problems or have any questions. Once again, thanks. --TantalumTelluride 21:14, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
