You asked[edit]

"Hey, what's that Wikipedia page that says sth like "Make an attempt to make this more interesting than a pile of rubbish" or something." Perhaps you are thinking about WP:HOLE? Punkmorten 20:58, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much. --Dangherous 09:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HI - I see you are changing the Wikilinks to point to Wiktionary. The proeblem with that is that the Wikipedia articles are often considerably more in depth than the Wiktionary entries - might I suggest that rather than removing the link to the Wikipedia article, you add links to Wiktionary, albelling them as, perhaps "see the corresponding entry in Wiktionary", so the reader has a choice of which way to go? Please reply here - I'll be watching. Cheers, WLD 13:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I just added Wiktionary links to some of the words that had no links on them. I don't think I removed any links to Wikipedia articles. I used my judgment whether or not to link to Wiktionary. For example, you won't find tant pis or tout de suite in Wikipedia, so I added the links to the wikt pages. I think it looks nicer and is more informative that way. --Dangherous 15:50, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
One example is the difference between the Wiktionary entry for Aide-de-camp and the Wikipedia entry Aide-de-camp. How do you suggest they be handled? Regards, WLD 16:07, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, first of all it will be to see if a merger between List of French phrases and List of French phrases used by English speakers is in order. The latter page is bigger and better. I would just redirect List of French phrases there, but that may be a bit too bold for me. My bold actions usually end up being reverted. But in general, if an article exists on Wikipedia, our little list should link to it. If there is no place for such an article on Wikipedia, link to Wiktionary. If there is no Wiktionary page or Wikipedia page on the subject, and there is likley never to be such a page, I'd just not link it anywhere. Seems to be the most logical solution. But like I said, that work may soon be redundant after the merge. --Dangherous 16:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing, I can't edit Wiktionary to link its pages back here. You might want to cross-reference between the two. --Dangherous 16:23, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A merger may be in order - it depends on whether the current List of French phrases used by English speakers needs to be tweaked (in my opinion). The list should be just that - an alphabetical list, and not broken up into sections discussing separate classes of usage - if necessary, thios sections (in my opinion) should be separate articles. The sections in question List of French phrases used by English speakers#Only found in English and List of French phrases used by English speakers#French phrases in international air-sea rescue could easily be seaparate articles in their own right. I reverted your boldness in redirecting, but left the merge proposal. WLD 17:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By the way - the merge proposal should be put on both articles. WLD 17:06, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, sorry about the boldness, I think I was try to make a point. I'm up for waiting a couple of days to garner opinions on the matter, and then we can do something exciting with the page. --Dangherous 17:53, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
