NPA warning[edit]

Having just blocked JS, I really feel that I have to warn you about WP:NPA after this [1] edit comment. Don't do it... William M. Connolley 21:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How is adding info on how to make a bomb properly an anti-nuke edit?[edit]

I'm not a pacifist. I didn't pick a fight with you. YOU made a rude edit summary calling my work "nonsence." I doubt you even read it. It from the above appears others have taken notice of your rude editing as well. Give Peace A Chance 18:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted. No bad feelings. Give Peace A Chance 18:53, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have to quit out Now[edit]

Re: Possible worlds. Why don't you take that, I just finished therein and have real world errands to run. Best! FrankB 19:11, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

James S.[edit]

Dear DV8 2XL, I would be interested to know how things are going with James, I think that James has been getting into a lot of trouble recent over the 3RR rule. What do you think will happen next ?Cadmium

Dear DV8 2XL, please could you tell me if there is an easy way of sharing a large text file with the other editors. I need to supply another editor (colour blind) with some data.Cadmium 20:58, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being silly but what are the data-dump things and how do I use one ?Cadmium 21:26, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to read [2] (I am not sure if I can believe it).Cadmium

Hi! Thanks for your help in reverting that string of vandalism to the Lightning page today. However, please be careful which version you are reverting to: [3], [4]. It's often helpful to use "show changes" to see what changes are being made. Thanks again for your help, and let me know if you have any questions. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 18:05, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

your message to me[edit]

I'm not James/Nrcprm2026, but I see that you have a strong, ongoing disagreement with him. It looks like you are removing things which should be in the articles. Why are you opposed to the info you've been deleting? 12.178.40.29 20:54, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fuel cell[edit]

For some reason that I haven't discerned, Fuel cell is a spam magnet. I guess there are a lot of small startups who want attention. Thanks for the help keeping the list trimmed down. Cheers, -Will Beback 08:02, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

James S and the Arb case[edit]

Hi DV8 2XL, I hope that you have had a good weekend. I have had a OK long weekend, I have cut my grass :( {I do not like cutting the grass} and I have noticed that the case involving James is drawing to an end. How long do you think it will be before the case is closed ?

Cadmium 19:40, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About another month I would guess. --DV8 2XL 20:00, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'd put it at a much shorter timeframe. As soon as they get one or two more ArbCom members voting, the proposed decision items will have passed, and the vote to close will be the only thing remaining. I'd say 2-3 weeks, tops, and potentially as little as one week if committee members happen to return to voting sooner rather than later. --Christopher Thomas 22:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Update - They're voting to close now, so expect remedies to be applied within days. --Christopher Thomas 22:55, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This arbitration case has closed. James S. is banned from depleted uranium, placed on probation, and placed on general probation. Those opposing editors who have made personal attacks on James S. are reminded of the policies regarding courtesy and personal attacks. TDC is placed on revert parole. For further details, please see the arbitration case. On behalf of the arbitration committee, Johnleemk | Talk 17:05, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DV8 2XL, it looks like James has been sent away from the uranium pages. Where do you think we will go from here ? and are you thinking of any major edits you now want to make ?Cadmium
Slowly clean-up the mess he left us with, hopefully without triggering another edit war - after that we'll see. --DV8 2XL 15:46, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tungsten Tubing[edit]

Thanks for that info on the tubing. A few other questions, (cant check my email at work),

1. what is the trade name of this stuff, and where can I buy some?
2. can standard Parker/Swagelok fittings be used with it?
3. can it be threaded?

Thanks. Torturous Devastating Cudgel 13:55, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Hi James"[edit]

I'm not James. I understand why you might think I am, and that's the reason I'd rather not get involved under my established account. How about an answer to my question? PaulVT 02:56, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about dropping the bullshit James. --DV8 2XL 03:31, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's the new uranium trioxide gas. Dr Zak 19:43, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ready, aye ready --DV8 2XL 23:31, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's astonishing how much hostility articles on rather esoteric chemicals (like this) can attract. Seems that the original author, a layman, read about it being generated in wine and juice preserved with dimethyl pyrocarbonate and made that the focus of his article, combined with a pointer to carbamate insecticides. The subsequent cleanup was of course covering up information. No idea how to deal with that gently, I confess. Dr Zak 15:29, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm afraid you've come to the wrong person if your looking for advice on how to suffer fools gladly :)
The only thing that seems to work when reason won't around here is to stick together and let them beat there heads until they go away or build up enough bad behavior to drag them in front of ArbCom. Dealing with James was a learning experience for me. If I go there again I now know how that system works and it will be a lot less effort.
Organic chem is not a strong suit for me, but I'll gladly serve in the ranks if you need me. --DV8 2XL 15:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am an inorganic chemist now, but I was trained as an organic chemist as well. I am the one who spotted what I think is chemophobia on the above mentioned page. I am not sure if it is worth getting stuck-in in the same way as we have with uranium.Cadmium

Hi DV8 2XL, how do you like the new page ? I have great hopes for the page. I think that Badagnani is being unreasonable. I would have no problem with him joining in with the new page.Cadmium

I held out an olive branch on his talk page, we will see what happens. New page is great, I think we can get something going there. --DV8 2XL 15:52, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that as we now have the actinides in the environment page that the health effects sections on the DU page should be made smaller. Badagnani wants to keep them there in their full form, please could you help out with the migration of the health/enviromental stuff to the new page you may need to revert him now and then.
About the new page, as you used to work with DU counterweights do you want to add to any element's profile on the page. I was thinking that Ra, Th and Np need some more material.Cadmium

Massive deletions[edit]

Whether you switch from (formerly) generally contemptuous and sometimes abusive to (now) non-abusive language, and the explanation on my "discussion" page notwithstanding, your massive, unilateral deletion of properly sourced information from the depleted uranium article is incorrect and anti-Wikipedian. The "legal issues" section reads now much like an editorial, with all trace of the many painstakingly sourced United Nations official statements completely removed, and the health section is gutted of a huge amount of relevant, significant data. This remains an outrageous situation. Begin by replacing that material -- which you did not have consensus to blank -- and we'll talk. Otherwise I am not confident that anything has changed about you and your mode of editing (and dealing with other Wikipedians) which I have observed over a period of many months. Badagnani 00:01, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What did you expect? "Your way" is unilateral; mine is pluralistic, in the spirit of Wikipedia, how I always edit. I can never agree, as you seem to have tried to get me to do earlier today, with the massive blanking of properly sourced text in favor of a source-free editorial (I'm specifically referring to the new version of the "legal status" section. Would you have me believe you'd seriously consider restoring that text and actually working with other editors? It would take a lot (i.e. concrete changes in editing behavior) to convince me of that. I think your last edit to my "discussion" page really does say a lot, without "saying" a lot. Badagnani 00:17, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subst'ing templates[edit]

Hi, I've just blocked an IP that was spamming, and I saw your {{spam3}} warning. It's better to put "subst" before these warnings, as the message is then converted into the full text of what's on the template, and stays that way even if the template itself is vandalized. Even more importantly, it reduces the load on the server. You should use it for all warnings sent to user talk pages, e.g. {{subst:welcome}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:npa}}, {{subst:bv}}, etc., but generally not (in my opinion) for things like {{POV}}, etc., that go on articles. For more information, please see WP:SUBST. Thanks for reporting at WP:AIV. Cheers. AnnH 10:37, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the old debate on meta-templates, it was stated by one of the developers that server load from templates wasn't a big issue. It does seem to be _convention_ to subst these templates, though. --Christopher Thomas 16:14, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Post riders[edit]

RE: Postriders

Noticed you made a great deal of contribution to the article and wondered if you'd object to me removing the links in the headers, as per the manual of style.

Interesting article, though!

DU[edit]

How do you think things are going on the DU page, I do not think that any attempt is being made to hide anything by moving matter to other pages. If anything I think that on health effects that the information is made more easy to see by making the move. The health effects of DU are no different to normal uranium so they should not in my view be kept on the DU page.Cadmium

Atlant has sent you E-mail[edit]

Just FYI, I'm concerned about what happened on Talk:Depleted uranium and, per your request above, have sent you E-mail to discuss it

Bptdude and Stirling Engine discussion[edit]

Hi. I wanted to let you know that I have unblocked Bptdude (talk · contribs) who I blocked earlier today for removing comments at the Talk:Stirling engine page. Apparently, those comments were placed by him in the article and moved to the discussion page by another editor (Lumos3). Bptdude felt that he didn't need to keep those comments around, and blanked them from the talk page. He's relatively new, and didn't realize that not using edit summaries and continuing to remove them would look like vandalism. So, you were all doing what seemed right...and he was doing what seemed right, but I just wanted to explain the situation to you all. Hopefully I've set him on the right track and you all can continue to create a great article. Thanks! Syrthiss 22:05, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Glad you got a laugh. I have to go look up the word "prussant" now. Badagnani 03:21, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uh-oh, no such word! Did you mean puissant? Badagnani 03:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it could be some kind of Shakespearean invented word -- half Prussian, half puissant. I still had to look up "puissant." Badagnani 03:30, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just realized that "prescient" could work as well. Badagnani 09:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Packistani A-bomb[edit]

Regarding this article, it seems that its creator (Tmayes1965 (talk · contribs)) has the same type of complaints about him and edits articles of the same type as Tmayes1999 (talk · contribs), whom you may remember from the whole A-bomb dispute. Tmayes1965 started editing in November 2005, right when Tmayes1999 stopped (when the A-bomb RFArb was filed). --Christopher Thomas 04:01, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Canada nuclear.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Canada nuclear.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:05, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Mediation Response[edit]

Hi, I considered all of the points you made in the mediation case and thought it out thoroughly, I added my opinion here and I would ask that you reply indicating your agreement / disagreement with my comments.

Thanks again for making this a friendly and easy process. cheers -- Tmorton166 (Errant Emote)  talk 02:31, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DV8-2XL, this is to notify you that I am requesting arbitration in our dispute.--Ewrobbel 23:55, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

Thank you for the barnstar, that was a very kind thought. Have you drawn the award specially for me or was it one which you had awarded before. I am deeply sorry that I have been so slow to thank you, but I did not know that anyone had edited my user page until I got a message on my talk page about my user boxes being fixed. I hope that the other users do not take some of my userboxes too serriously, I was joking when I wrote those for fixed power lead to PC and did up my own shoe laces.

I am going to read up on the arbitration case which you are involved in, I will read up and if I feel that I should do so ... I will comment on the case.Cadmium 19:12, 5 June 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I will have to think about what next I should write about on nuclear matters or other stuff. I wish that more of the other editors would get stuck in at the actinides in the environment page and the other environmental radioactivity page I made recently. I am interested to notice that the greenies have not edited the pages, perhapes the titles put them off ???.Cadmium 20:00, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TDC[edit]

Have fun on your break, and I hope to see you back here some time again. BTW, I have filed a checkuser on James' IPs. Torturous Devastating Cudgel 02:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, wish I'd seen the AfD in time to comment. The others are correct that Frieden has published peer reviewed papers, and also that CUP books are reviewed, but this does not mean that his claims are not controversial. Even worse, the anon editor is apparently none other than Frieden himself. Arghghgh. Hope you decide to come back and continue cruft patrol!
