Mac review

I checked out all but criteria 1 so far. I noticed some issues with the sources and noted that in the review. All the source issues are were in the same section. Let me know when you've had a chance to look at that section. Then, I'll check maybe 2 more sources (only in that section), and begin going over the prose. Thanks for being patient with the GA review. I noticed this one on a report of reviews that have been held up for an abnormally long time. Take care, Rjjiii (talk) 06:12, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the solid review. I'm really liking the new spot-check requirement. DFlhb (talk) 06:59, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Mac (computer)

The article Mac (computer) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Mac (computer) for comments about the article, and Talk:Mac (computer)/GA2 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Colours

Hi DFlhb, do you know how to change the background of the tmbox depending on whether it is inside the banner shell or not? CSS is not my strength but I believe it should be possible. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:16, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

This should set it to white when inside a the WPBannerShell, and this should also remove the dotted border and gap between the outer shell and the project headers, like in mockup 2. The rounded corners, if we decide to go with them, are here.
The current project header rows have two cells (wpb-header-name, right-aligned, and wpb-header-assessment, left-aligned, each with 50% width) while mockup 2 just uses one cell, and I've implemented that CSS here, and in a very preliminary way in Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox. And the CSS for the class/importance bubbles is here; I'm guessing we'll need code in Module:Class to generate those bubbles with the right colors, and code somewhere else for the importance bubbles. Effect can be seen on Template:WPBannerMeta/testcases. DFlhb (talk) 08:20, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Wrong diff for the white background; it's this one. DFlhb (talk) 08:41, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Nice work. I'll see what I can do to progress this — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:53, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
I think everything is now implemented at Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox. Both mockup 2 and 4 are now visible at Template:WPBannerMeta/testcases. DFlhb (talk) 13:25, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Brilliant, I have made the code more efficient. I've made the border a bit thicker. I know you prefer left-align (and me too) but consensus is split on that at the moment. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:41, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
What's the best way to left-align the names of the projects in the nested version? I guess a separate table column for the images with a fixed width? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:04, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
I think that's the only way, yeah. DFlhb (talk) 15:10, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
I tried, but things go horribly wrong when uncollapsing the banners now — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:24, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Fixed; will see if I can fix the alignment of the shell text. DFlhb (talk) 18:20, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Can I add WP:TPE to your account and you can update some/all of these templates yourself? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:42, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

Sure. But I won't deploy immediately; still need to figure out a solution for {{MILHIST}} and {{Vital article}} (and I'll ask for your feedback on whatever I come up with). Also need to know whether the CSS and module changes will both reverberate simultaneously; otherwise, I'll need to change the implementation to use new names for the CSS classes. Is WP:WPT the best place to ask that? DFlhb (talk) 13:54, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
VPT sounds like the best place to ask — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:58, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks; I meant to pass-in gray rather than the importance colour, but it looks better as text due to the parentheses and blue link. DFlhb (talk) 16:04, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Are you nearly ready to deploy? Just I've got a couple of other changes queued in the sandbox ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:29, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
I'll wait until tomorrow, to give Izno a chance to respond and so I can test it a little more. Are your changes tested and ready to deploy? DFlhb (talk) 21:36, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Also, for {{Vital article}}, I think I'll just leave it untouched; it's rarely placed in the shell AFAIK, and fixing it would require basically recoding it mostly in HTML (Template:MILHIST-style) to add custom CSS, which feels too hacky. We can try adding Vital to the shell after this is deployed, which'll make this moot. DFlhb (talk) 21:40, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Yes, let's not try to do everything at once. Progressive changes are good. There is no particular rush to sort out vital article, although I could probably convert it to WPBM as a temporary measure. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:18, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Ready to go. Could you reduce the protection of Template:WPBannerMeta/styles.css to TPROT temporarily? DFlhb (talk) 11:29, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Moved to Module:WikiProject banner/styles.css. Please check everything needed is there — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:37, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Are you itending to deploy the WPBM version of Template:WikiProject Military history? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:55, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
I prefer to let Hawkeye7 decide when to deploy. Made Template:WikiProject Military history/sandbox2 for the current deployment. DFlhb (talk) 12:04, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
I think it's better for that to be done first, otherwise it will look very out of place! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:08, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
? sandbox2 should match the new design perfectly DFlhb (talk) 12:10, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

This is looking excellent and I haven't seen any bugs yet. I assumed this code would be moved into the stylesheet? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:39, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

:css('font-weight', 'normal')
Missed that; now done. And thanks for your trust with TPE. DFlhb (talk) 12:52, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
I think we may be able to do even better. All the class colours are in Module:Class/styles.css do it's just a question of using those styles and adding the right class name. But I think that's enough for today! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:54, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Can't believe you described yourself as a template noob back in April! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:55, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
I was! DFlhb (talk) 13:09, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Awesome effort! Please move it into production. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 00:23, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Great. Will do so tomorrow (it's nighttime here). DFlhb (talk) 00:57, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Your fix looks much better than mine; feel free to deploy. DFlhb (talk) 07:41, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Didn't know you were online! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 07:46, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
RE [1], could you do this just for the collapsed banners? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:29, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Complicated. The mockups only work because I'm defining the colors at the element level, not at the class level. Doing that, and doing it inside the module, is also great for easy prototyping. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the "switch color based on parent class" thing would require setting colour at the class-level.
But since all mockups are on a single page, the class-level definitions would conflict, and they can't. Basically, one stylesheet would override all the others and they'd all be the same colour.
Does that actually matter in these prototypes? We're just comparing colors when collapsed, to try to pick a better one, right? DFlhb (talk) 11:43, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Okay if there's no alternative then just revert me. I can live with it! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:52, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
Would appreciate if you could take a look at my code for 'v4'; I'd like to deploy soon to address the feedback, but it feels a little hack-y. DFlhb (talk) 17:01, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
'twas deployed. Not trying to be a pest, but given your experience with template rollouts, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the 'wider consultation' idea. DFlhb (talk) 18:29, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
I've left a message at VPR asking people to comment. In hindsight it was possibly too much change at once. We have a rather conservative community :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

I've got a few changes in Module:WikiProject banner/sandbox to deploy, if you wouldn't mind checking over it, as I've simplified some of your code ;) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:55, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Some of the changes go beyond my Lua knowledge, but the changes to "my" parts of the code look good. Putting the colours in the cfg file is a good move. DFlhb (talk) 11:58, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:05, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Graphic Designer's Barnstar
Thank you for the redesign of the project banner shells. I think this is the biggest change that the Wikipedia community supported and approved in recent memory. I was used to the old design and think the redesign wasn't necessary, but the redesign starts to grow on me. OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:42, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Grateful for this; thank you DFlhb (talk) 06:56, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

B-class checklist behaviour

Hi! As this suggestion came from you, you may like to comment: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council#Proposal to change B-class checklist behaviour — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:04, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks. Sorry, it’s been a busy week, I’ll get to this in a bit DFlhb (talk) 10:23, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Got my main computer back from the repair shop yesterday; makes it much easier to post long rationales than typing on a phone! I've just added my rationale; thanks again for pushing that proposal forward. DFlhb (talk) 19:19, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Does this match your expectations? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 22:50, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Impeccable; many thanks for this! DFlhb (talk) 05:01, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
I deployed but now I think the logic is wrong. If any of the parameters |b1=no or |b2=no etc. then it should demote to C-class. At the moment it will ignore the checklist for grading purposes unless every criteria is filled out. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:28, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Agreed; my bad for missing that. DFlhb (talk) 20:33, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
No worries. I think I've fixed it on the sandbox. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:39, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

Consider running for adminship

You are a remarkable editor in many ways. You would be a good administrator, in my opinion, and appear to be well qualified. You personify an administrator without tools and have gained my support already!

You're considerate, and a frequent contributor across many areas. Mach61 (talk) 01:02, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

I'm grateful for the compliment, but being an admin is not something I'm interested in; I'm more than happy just contributing where I can, without any 'baseline' time commitments. DFlhb (talk) 05:37, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Finish that thought

You probably want to finish this sentence[2]. VR talk 04:17, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Journalist request

Hi! I’m a public radio reporter working on a story about the challenges of editing Wiki pages related to Palestine and Israel in the current moment. I’m hoping to interview some active editors about their experiences right now. Can you email mdalton at ct public dot org? Appreciate all your efforts so much! 69.126.242.38 (talk) 01:20, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi - Thanks, and I like public radio, but I don't do interviews. DFlhb (talk) 05:15, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi there. I pinged in you in this Talk section, but there apparently was a problem with pinging for at least one user who I also pinged, so I wanted to make sure you saw it. Please feel free to participate in the discussion. | Orgullomoore (talk) 18:59, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Hadn't seen it, but I don't have the time to keep participating in the discussion. I like the direction it's going though DFlhb (talk) 21:29, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Re: Gaza war

Hey,

Regarding this: perhaps the "invasion" section wasn't the best option. Are you okay with putting it in the "casualties" section? François Robere (talk) 00:40, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi
Sounds like it might belong in the "Background > Hamas leadership" section, since it attempts to analyze the intentions behind the initial attack. But I suggest discussing this on the talk page to get wider input. Best, - DFlhb (talk) 00:45, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
That's where it was originally, but I decided to move it because it looks at things after the fact. I'll return it there for the time being. Cheers. François Robere (talk) 00:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello DFlhb, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

GA nomination

Hi again, I was considering nominating Andrew Tate for WP:GA. Since you have contributed a considerable amount to the topic (the most), thought I'd check with you first for your thoughts, also in case you wanted to co-nominate if this is possible? Otherwise to give you the opportunity to nominate it first, as I'm not bothered about the credit for nomination, I simply think it could pass a GA or requires limited improvement for one, given updates I've made in recent days. CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 16:51, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Go for it. I can co-nom if you'd like, but the time I spend here will be very limited until early/mid January (except for checking notifications), so I don't know if I can be that much help. DFlhb (talk) 18:21, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Ok, I'll put you down. I'm happy to put the work in, just not comfortable taking all the credit, if there is any to be taken that is. CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 23:46, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi; sorry but I have to back out of this. Besides the holidays, I have too much IRL work that it wouldn't be sensible for me to spend time on it - DFlhb (talk) 13:32, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
You know what? Count me back in, I think I can make the time. - DFlhb (talk) 15:31, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
That's good to know. I had doubts as the Kickboxing career section doesn't appear to be well sourced and struggled to find any reliable sources for this, I wouldn't even know where to start. For example, when did he actually become a four-time world champion? I only found this referenced by BBC in passing. The Kickboxing record list seems solid, but wasn't able to "translate" this to his career section. The rest of the sections appear quite solid though. Will nominate now though if you're back on board. CommunityNotesContributor (talk) 20:56, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
Good luck to both of you. A highly visited and highly controversial article subject isn't easy to fix up to GA or FAC standards. I've had the page on my watchlist for a while and am willing to help in small, minor ways if needed. Askarion 00:58, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, any and all help is appreciated DFlhb (talk) 08:46, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
