On contributing to RfA[edit]

People don't need to be an administrator to contribute to RfA discussions. Generally, they should be established editors who understand what administration is about (adminhood is not meant to be a popularity contest), but one does not need be an admin for that to be the case. Thinking in terms of importance is the wrong angle anyhow. The question is one of judgement and familiarity with the concepts involved. Very new members might think that it'd be cool in an abstract way to be an admin, or might not understand what happens when people who don't understand how things work on Wikipedia start trying to do everything "their way". If neither of these are concerns, then there's no reason not to make your thoughts known on someone running. --Improv 13:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well. I eat but I keep a balanced diet. I think of the youthful, but I don't think of you. I am happy the way I am: slim, tall, a little muscle and abs. I don't care if you're older than me becauseI'm the youngest wiki user (one of them at least). Thank you for the regards of happy editing. Lindsay1980 20:52, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{helpme|how do you put pictures and styles of font in your signiture}

Hi! Firstly, images are not allowed in signatures, as they put an unnecessary strain on the server. Secondly, to style your signature, simply go into preferences and check the "raw signature" checkbox. There, you can insert anything - bar images, external links and in most cases, templates - as you would any other wiki page, and it will become your signature. Yes i do have Raw signatue on. But the code will not work.

At no stage did I vandalize your user page. You specificaly asked me not "dirty up my user page, with your impure spelling and grammer". So I didn't, I am couteous enough to forefill your requsset and you delete it? I think we can both agree that there is nothing to be gained by disrespecting each other's pages. I showed you the same editing courtousy that you have shown me. Again and again. Even now, you do not respect my page as I have asked you numerous times to do. Please, Wikipedia is a much more formal setting than say, MSN. So:

    • Spaces
    • Appropreate headings and titles
    • Spelling
    • Capital letters
    • Grammar
    • No abreviations
    • Check before saving
    • Sign your posts
    • Relevancy

Please, this is basic stuff. If you fail to grasp this; your posts will be erased from my page, and I expect you to do the same to me. As for the many others, whom? Also, what are these "false accusations" on your talk page? I never acused you of anything! What is it that you speak of?

    I propose a truce, repect is integral to builing a Wikipedia. Thanks, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 23:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cannons and Jimbo (oh and Striv)[edit]

Hi, I noticed the cann9ons on your user page - supposedly aimed at Jimbo. And the image of Jimbo's 'first incarnation'. I would ask you to remove them as they can be construed as offensive to Jimbo Wales and they violate wiki policy of No personal attacks (and possibly WP:POINT as well).

Secondly regarding Striv (strive parody), I saw your post on Daniels page. You may have meant no harm with the oiamge / parody BUT it is mildly rude to the guy who created Strive. Also Strive is a WP initiavtive whilst Striv is essentially just a joke - which is something generally discouraged on Wikipedia. If you have a concern about the strive project then please address it sensibly on the relevant page - rather than ridiculing it on your userpage (a possible violation of WP:POINT). Any advice on these issues feel free to ask Thanks --Errant Tmorton166(Talk)(Review me) 13:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do you revert pages after vandalism?[edit]

If you are an admin you have a comfortable button that do it automatically. If you are not you go in the history, you load the page as it was before the vandalism and you save. Removal of talk messages[edit]

Please note, your removal of posts without responding is not compliant with Wikipedia etiquette, which states "Actively erasing non-harassing personal messages without replying will probably be interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as uncivil, and this can become an issue in arbitration or other formal proceedings." Please respond, or formal dispute resolution may be taken against you, which will result in the leniant 24 hour block being reviewed, and possibly extended, regaring your use of abusive sockpuppets to circumvent WP:VAND, WP:NPA as well as impersonating another user. Daniel.Bryant 12:03, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    You have been blocked[edit]

Based on your blatant abuse of sockpuppets confirmed at Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Culverin I have blocked you for one month. Note I would have usually blocked a user indefinitely for this but did not based on your good faith contributions in the past. Please do not attempt to circumvent this block via the use of other accounts as this will result in an indefinite block. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. - Glen 06:45, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Upon review you are blocked indefinitely based on the level of abuse shown at Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Culverin

Wasnt it originally decided with the support of user daniel byrant that i be blocked for 24 hours. (with the full evidence shown) why has this been overturned. I know i did wrong, i am not asking for a compleate unblock, i am just asking to be blocked for a time, not for ever. I am willing to do the time for the crime so please consider it. I have made many valid edits. why should one mistake ruin it all.

PS i took the socktemplate off my page at the advice of user: samir. Please look at my talk page history for daniels and samirs comments. If daniel byrant (the victim) is happy for me to be blocked for a time, why shouldnt i?

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I never said that I wanted you to have a 24 hour block - I believe that you should be blocked indefinately. I had your case reviewed because you broke Wikiettiquete. I endorse the indef block. Daniel.Bryant 11:09, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

? you said you were willing to give me a 2 week block. I can accept that. Would you help me scale the block to 2 weeks?

I know i did wrong. I am willing to do time in the big house but not forever. Culverin ? Talk 11:14, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will leave another admin to address your request as its not my place, however you may be interested to know that on Winhunter agrees with this block: <Winhunter> {#vandalism-en-wp} Glen_s: It's completely fine and I think you are right on blocking him indef and Daniel is FAR from happy (see here) - Glen 11:14, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your questions: (1) if you promise never to use abusive sockpuppets again, you can take the tag off of your user page when your block expires and (2) Yes, there are many current administrators who were blocked for silly actions at some time in their career. More importantly, you should be quite thankful of the result, in my opinion. Winhunter was lenient with you: actions similar to yours have resulted in blocks of a week

    From my user page history.

If weekly blocks are common why i am i blocked indef?

Here is my set of reasonable conditions:-
    • Block of 3 months (12 weeks, until December 16, 2006)
    • The tag stays on your user page for 6 months (24 weeks, until March 16, 2007)
    • Any further sockpuppet infringements will result in an indefinate block, and you recuse yourself of the right to plead forgiveness ever again on Sockpuppetry blocks.
    • A full apology to myself and Dfrg.msc, who you tried to fool by impersonating me
Please note that this is not binding, and any admin can ignore this recommendation. Do you concur? Daniel.Bryant 11:17, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Glen said he'd reduce the block to three months if you agree. Don't bother will the apology right now - just say if you agree or not. Daniel.Bryant 11:20, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe my punishment should be

    • a 2-4 week block
    • the sock template for 2 months
    • probation
    • If anything else happens a indef block.

I think you are taking this to seriously daniel. But it isnt my place to decise is it. All i ask is for a few weeks block and probation. Culverin ? Talk 11:23, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ps You yourself supported a 2 week block didnt you? You said that to dfrg.msc. well anyway, i want to live.

    • I would agree to a 1 month block like Glen originally thought.

And the template for 3 months and 6 months probation. Culverin ? Talk 11:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, this is it - if you disagree to this, you stay blocked indefinately:-

    EITHER:

    • Block of 8 weeks (until October 28, 2006)
    • The tag stays on your user page for 4 months (16 weeks, until January 16, 2007)
    • Any further sockpuppet infringements will result in an indefinate block, and you recuse yourself of the right to plead forgiveness ever again on Sockpuppetry blocks.
    • A full apology to myself and Dfrg.msc, who you tried to fool by impersonating me

    OR

    • Block of 10 weeks (until November 25, 2006)
    • The tag stays on your user page for 3 months (16 weeks, until December 16, 2006)
    • Any further sockpuppet infringements will result in an indefinate block, and you recuse yourself of the right to plead forgiveness ever again on Sockpuppetry blocks.
    • A full apology to myself and Dfrg.msc, who you tried to fool by impersonating me

Which one, the firstor the second - agreeing to neither means you stay indefinately blocked. Daniel.Bryant 11:28, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know i have learnt my lesson so why should this continue. I dont think vengence is really going to change anything. What benifit is a indef block for me going to have. I have made valid edits so let me continue to.

    So you're agreeing to neither? Daniel.Bryant 11:31, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Before i make a decision could the we here from user: samir as he is a expert vandal fighter and his input is valued.

Ps could there be a parol period?

    Could i have a day or two to decide? Culverin ? Talk 11:34, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glen, as well as most of #wikipedia has told me I'm being too nice by doing this to you. However:-
    • Block of 6 weeks (until October 28, 2006)
    • The tag stays on your user page for 3 months (16 weeks, until December 16, 2007)
    • Any further sockpuppet infringements will result in an indefinate block, and you recuse yourself of the right to plead forgiveness ever again on Sockpuppetry blocks.
    • A full apology to myself and Dfrg.msc, who you tried to fool by impersonating me
    • Have the "Striv" image deleted
Agreed? And no, not two days; and no, Samir is not privvy to all the details. I have been more-than-generous, with only adding two weeks to your proposed one month ban. And the only parole is that you create articles for submission to Wikipedia (new articles), post them here, and I will indivually decide whether you have done enough. Seriously, you do make good edits to Wikipedia, and if you create one or two good articles here (I'll move them to the mainspace, as you won't be able to), I'll consider having you unblocked by an admin. OK? Daniel.Bryant 11:37, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
