Another?

Hi Courcelles, could you please check this one out too [1]? There might be more IPs following his pattern. Thank you. Tuscumbia (talk) 16:02, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, I see a CU has had a look around now. Courcelles 17:08, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Courcelles for looking into the case. I filed another one for the same newly registered user which can also be a blocked user Meowy. Tuscumbia (talk) 17:33, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Umm

That's an inappropriate use of a commenting template that may cause confusion for new users, so it should be struck in case it gives the new user an impression that he/she is in a position of power. Note that comments were not struck, just the template. Netalarmtalk 18:51, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I already commented on your talk page and Arctic Night's. Let's not have this kerfuffle in a third venue, okay? Courcelles 18:56, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Uhh... my comment was made first...? 18:51 here while yours was made at 18:52. Netalarmtalk 21:15, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I recommend that you unblock this person after they choose a new username, and you may also want to consider undeleting User:Learningedge/OCB. Judging by their unblock request, it is a good faith attempt at writing an article, even though it sounds spammy and has other problems. But this seems to be a bona fide newbie who may just need some instructions.  Sandstein  20:39, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Watching their talk page. Courcelles 21:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Revision summary

Hi Courcelles. Thanks for your recent page protection. I filed the request using Huggle and for some reason it used my IP address as the signature instead of my userid. Would you please revdel this edit? Thanks!SpikeToronto 01:39, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Removed. If you want it really hidden, you can always send it to the Oversight folks. Courcelles 01:46, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much! As I understand it, the way it is now, only Administrators can see it and I trust them to do the right thing with such information. Do you think, though, that I should ask the the Oversight folks? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 01:49, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Your understanding is correct... further, it is on such a busy page that by this time tomorrow, it will have been buried under another 100 edits. The two main differences between RevDel and Oversight are the 1)visibility by admins who go looking, and 2) Oversight doesn't appear on watchlists, the way RevDel basically sends up a flare to anyone who watches a page. Sending it to oversight at this point is just how private you want things- that's also why we don't say WHO edited while logged out in the logs, so that whatever we're deleting doesn't have too many pointers to it. Courcelles 01:57, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again. And, your explanation was great! — SpikeToronto 02:37, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

why so scared of thurstan college colombo 7 (kurunduwatte)

Cossde - is this person so scared of Thurstan College Colombo 7 (the college is just adjoining to Rajakeeya Vidyalaya or Royal College Colombo 7) being added and the name Kurunduwatte. Why you loose your royal college prestige then ?. this shows how biased those people are. keep doing it mate, there are other royal colleges in sri lanka too and now adays you get swimming pools, computer centers even in hambanthota schools too. They can speak english too. the royal era is gone. Cossde keep only the prestigious Royal college on wikipedia and either down grade all other schools or wipe them off, if you can. also if u are so paranoid of Thurstan College Colombo 7 in Kurunduwatte just flatten the college to the ground. (95.30.185.74 (talk) 02:47, 4 November 2010 (UTC)).

"Cossde" - paranoid about old boys being called old royalists (except from royal college colombo 7 / kurunduwatte) from other royal colleges (or vidyalaya's)

why ony old boys from royal college colombo (rajakeeya vidyalaya colombo) known as old royalists and for example old boys from royal college panadura (http://royalcollegepanadura.ash.com/) be known as old royalists too?. instead this person "Cossde" always wants to call them "Alumni of Panadura Rajakeeya Vidyalaya". this person "Cossde" is so paranoid of all other royal colleges in sri lanka. who do you think u are ?. are u a king or a prestigious old royalist (colombo 7 / kurunduwatte). also the same guy is so worried about other royal colleges in sri lanka being called as royal colleges. in sinhales language all schools / colleges are called VIDYALAYA including the PRESTIGIOUS Royal College or Rajakeeya Vidyalaya Colombo.(95.30.185.74 (talk) 02:48, 4 November 2010 (UTC)).

List of Royal College Colombo alumni and Lalith Kothalawala and Cossde

why this person Cossde doesn't want to / trying to avoid / or shy to add the name of old royalist the no one cheater in sri lanks to the list of List of Royal College Colombo alumni. this Cossde is a sick paranoid puppy who wants only the colombo 7 royalist to be survived on internet.(95.30.185.74 (talk) 02:49, 4 November 2010 (UTC)).

Cossde / Royalists from Kurunduwatte (Colombo 7) and Rajakeeya Maha Vidyalaya Colombo 7

Cossde we are not so desparate about your so called wikipedia to show the world our colleges or it's old boys etc. We do have our own college web sites do it. Cossde can down grade / delete / demand references for each an every word / make all colleges in sri lanka (except the PRESTIGIOUS ROYAL COLLEGE COLOMBO 7) to VIDYALAYA or Maha Vidyalaya / as you wish except for The Prestigious Rajakeeya Maha Vidyalaya or Royal College. Royalists from other Royal Colleges in Sri Lanka (ie: Royal College Polonnaruwa) can speak english too. If you think that only the Royal College Colombo 7 be the only COLLEGE in sri lanka and Thurstan College Colombo 7 (situated just adjoining Royal College) to be deleted immediately saying it is vandalism...you are badly mistaken. You are a sick person. Show your Royal College COLOMBO 7 (kURUNDUWATTE) colours to the whole world......it is just like claiming as if you have captured medawatchchiya not knowing where kilinochchiya is.....aparently this was told in parliament (during LTTE war) by a so called colombo Royalist too......it is just like prestigious kurunduwatte royalists who robbed sri lanka's poor peoples hardly earned money getting a deshmanya title. well done royalists of colombo 7.

Dharmaraja College Kandy

Isipathana College Colombo 5

Mahinda College Galle

Richmond College Galle

Rahula College Matara

Maliyadeva College Kurunegala

Thurstan College Colombo 7

Royal College Polonnaruwa

Prince of Wales' College Moratuwa

Nalanda College Colombo 10

Ananda College Colombo 10 (95.30.185.74 (talk) 02:52, 4 November 2010 (UTC)).

Umm... why are you telling me all this? And can I get the short version- i.e., what do you want me, specifically, to do about any of it? If this is a general problem with Cossde, try user talk:Cossde. Courcelles 02:57, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Another day, another...well, you know

Hi Courcelles, I was wondering if you could go out on a limb and revdel all the edits prior to mine in the Joe Bartoch article. The second paragraph is identical (in terms of style and structure) to that of another Canadian Olympian whose article I reviewed. In that case the second paragraph turned out to have been pulled from the athlete's Olympic profile page (cited as the source). Unfortunately I'm not able to determine if that is where this second paragraph came from because the Wayback machine is acting up. However, I'm 99% sure that the paragraph is copyvio and have removed it as such. So if you could revdel the edits prior to mine, that would be great. But if you'd rather not, I'll understand.--*Kat* (meow?) 05:24, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Huggle

When are you going to use Huggle again? Wayne Olajuwon chat 19:38, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

You non-admins on Huggle keep me in work enough blocking and protecting! I'm actually trying to write more, but it goes slowly. I still jump on it when things seem bad, or I need to quickly clean an AIV backlog. Courcelles 19:41, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Oh, okay. I see your contributions and you have protected a lot pages including your archives. Wayne Olajuwon chat 19:43, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

FL and ACCESS

As a regular at FLC, I'd like to draw your attention to ongoing discussion here about changes to the format of tables which will affect all existing FLs and all current and future FLCs. Your input would be welcome. Thanks for your contributions so far! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:19, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Re: Discussion on Netalarm

For you to threaten to impose a block against a good-standing editor for such a ridiculously silly non-issue is utterly outrageous and simply uncalled for. Please please PLEASE be more cognizant of the potential chilling effect that your actions can have on otherwise good-faith editors, who are clearly here to help. You seem to need to be reminded that you are vested with authority granted by the community to help make Wikipedia better, not scare away folks who make a simple mistake. Cheers.    Thorncrag  06:15, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

You never threaten a block- that's bad administration and puts editors under a Sword of Damocles. You either handle an incident with a block, or tell someone to not do something again, and that such behaviour is worthy of a block. I did the latter- as the underlying action should never, ever happen, there should be no need to ever press the block button. Bottom line though is that coming to someone's talk page and announcing that you've modified their comments is in violation of Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines and is disruption. You just don't mess with other people's comments unless you have a iron-clad reason, ever. People have been blocked for doing it after being warned in the past. On a philosophical level, I also reject the idea that chilling effects are always bad. Sometimes it is good to have it spelled out that if you do X, specific action Y will happen. Note also that a chilling effect relates to the right to free speech. When the conduct concerned is one that there is no right to do, there can be no chilling effect in prohibiting it. Courcelles 06:43, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
You can argue semantics all you want, but if an otherwise excellent contributor considers throwing in the towel because your threatened block for such a pedantic reason happens to be the last straw, that is a problem. Cheers! :-)    Thorncrag  20:34, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
I can't see any evidence suggesting that Netalarm is considering leaving over this (from what I've seen... I don't know about any private discussions, mind you). If we're going to do this, I think my feelings should also be considered - I was trying to help out, and was slapped on the wrist. If what Courcelles said made Netalarm consider leaving, what Netalarm said should also be making me consider leaving! I joke :) Anyway, I think it's safe to say that this discussion has ended. So long as Netalarm does not remove any more templates, I don't see any reason to keep beating away at the issue. Thanks to Courcelles though for standing up in the face of something that seemed a little off to me in the first place. Arctic Night 06:21, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Israel-Palestine editing

Hi Courcelles, following the recent deterioration in editing of the Israel-Palestine set of articles, I've set up a page to discuss the problem and possible solutions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Arbitration Enforcement/Israel-Palestine articles. Your input would be appreciated. PhilKnight (talk) 17:17, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey Courcelles. I have this page in my watchlist and it gets vandalized a whole lot. Do you think semi protecting it would help? Hope you're having a great day. :-) ~dee(talk?) 18:17, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Semied, two months. That's way too much BLP garbage. Courcelles 18:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

O'Connor Co-operative School, Canberra, Australia

Could you let me know why "O'Connor Co-operative School" was deleted on 22 September 2010 please?

I was not responsible for putting it up, but might want to put up a short entry. Greenmaven (talk) 22:47, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Sure, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O'Connor Co-operative School, the article was deleted after community discussion into the notability of the institution. Courcelles 23:02, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
