Regarding the banned account of User:Doedoeneoneo

Hi Courcelles, I am a Taiwanese Wikimedian and I want to let you know that I met User:Doedoeneoneo in person on August. I then want to come to help her clear some concerns from the English community. I have investigated and written here regarding the community's concern. Please feel free to participate. Thank you in advance. --Liang (WMTW) (talk) 02:23, 5 October 2018 (UTC)

Courcelles, this review of yours has now been open for two months. Where does it stand, and have last month's changes brought it closer to where the article needs to be? Thanks for taking another look. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:37, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

  • I'll take another look later on today. Courcelles (talk) 08:51, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

October 2018 United States mail bombing attempts

Since you semi-protected the page, can you also move-protect it so that nonsense like this doesn't happen? Also a ban is probably in order since this is obviously someone who knows what they're doing, what with the purposeful salting of the redirect so that the vandalism move couldn't be easily undone. ARBCOM?

Hi Courcelles. Would you please please consider running for ArbCom again? You're an excellent clear-headed admin and former Arb, and we need good people. Right now there are only three people running to fill six seats, and two of those running are not even admins. Please please consider serving if you are able. The deadline is in a few days. Thank you. Softlavender (talk) 10:47, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Those IPs

Sure seem to be coming for you. Maybe you shouldn't accuse people of vandalism.

I know,right! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:3FD6:C00:CC3D:F0C3:AE70:AD0B (talk) 19:21, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

Jordan Peterson - Vandalism?

Would it be correct to assume that citing vandalism as a reason to protect a page implies that you view the recent contributions as acts of vandalism rather then constructive edits? Are you aware of the 2xWP:1RR violation that the user that requested page protection has engaged in? Did you view this discussion before making a decision? This seems odd. 2A02:C7D:2E54:3F00:E58D:ADD5:309A:7E24 (talk) 21:57, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

  • If I may beg Courcelle's indulgence--who are you? Drmies (talk) 22:03, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
someone who believes this is a fair inquiry (above) to make, evidence of vandalism? 2A02:C7D:2E54:3F00:7CC6:DA51:3366:19C7 (talk) 00:31, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

  • With an edit like [23], consider yourself lucky I didn't block you, and consider yourself on your final warning. Courcelles (talk) 20:52, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Easy tiger [faith]

  • AGF is not a suicide pact is also part of policy. And I have very little good faith for IP's who show up and violate something even more important than AGF, WP:BLP. Courcelles (talk) 20:58, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Axl Rose

Axl Rose IS NOT a member of AC/DC he is simply a guest singer nothing more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2D80:803D:8BEF:6C3D:9615:C7B8:F031 (talk) 18:48, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know the first thing about AC/DC. The talk page is where to sort this out, it’s over here. Courcelles (talk) 18:57, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Move-protecting WP:RFPP?

Hello Courcelles - I saw that you changed the protection on Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to "[Move=Require administrator access] (indefinite)". The move protection was there in the first place because Dlohcierekim misclicked on Twinkle and protected the request forum rather than the page requested. Looking at the logs, the project page has only ever been moved once, in an ill-advised but good-faith attempt back in 2006 [24]. If we practise what we preach, that "pages are not protected pre-emptively", I doubt it's justified to put indefinite move protection on the page. Would you be so nice as to consider unprotecting? Deryck C. 17:55, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

Read the logs more carefully, indef move protection has always, going back years, been the standard on RFPP, I was merely fixing Dloh.'s mistake in ever dropping it in the first place. Courcelles (talk) 20:59, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
Ah you're right. *trout slaps self* Deryck C. 11:34, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
No worries, the logs on that page are rather confusing and convoluted! Courcelles is travelling (talk) 22:20, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
  • A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
  • A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
  • A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.

Miscellaneous

  • In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
  • Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.
