Senators[edit]

I will try not to interfere with your editing of the article. Hope I haven't already. I am done until this evening, okay? Alaney2k (talk) 18:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alaney2k: Perhaps you could work on the Pierre Dorion era tonight and tomorrow, since those sections are completely unsourced. I can work on the 2014-15 season for today. Conyo14 (talk) 18:57, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NCIH projection[edit]

My guess is. Within five years (or less), the entire WP:NCIH's North American clause will be abolished. The North American hockey leagues & media, seem to be gradually surrendering to non-english name spelling. GoodDay (talk) 02:05, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds about right. Then I will definitely suggest we change the NCIH guideline to adhere to a case-by-case scenario. Conyo14 (talk) 06:17, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait about five years, before making such a suggestion :) GoodDay (talk) 15:12, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TV merger[edit]

I have a question for you: Should I merge multiple different cells into one within the same company (i.e. TNT/TBS, ESPN/ABC)? Thank you Khoa41860 (talk) 23:58, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That seems like a fine edit. Which article(s)? Conyo14 (talk) 00:30, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
2022 and 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs Khoa41860 (talk) 01:08, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it's fine Conyo14 (talk) 02:56, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

making peace after moka mo misunderstanding[edit]

I have been unblocked by the administrators after I appealed to them and they believed I was not Moka Mo like a lot of you thought which I am grateful for. Since they are giving me a second chance now that they know the true story about my activity, I was hoping to take this opportunity to make peace now with you. I am usually not an emotionally driven person and I am usually pretty easy to get along with but I admit to have overreacted. Obviously trying to say repeatedly that I am not who people think I am and not being believed was difficult and I usually don't lose my cool with people but I know I did lose my cool and I am using the second chance given to me to be better at keeping my emotions under control and to hopefully make amends with those who mistook me for moka mo. I don't exepct you to forgive me but if you do then that would be awesome. Thanks man and stay safe. Gymrat16 (talk) 19:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Forgiveness? Okay. You are forgiven. Perhaps, if you want to help with edits, take a look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Khoa41860. This user occasionally writes on WP:BLPs such as Leah Hextall and leaves a bunch of citations, usually way too many. So, if you can, please take a look at the articles and remove some WP:OVERCITE. Use your best judgment. Conyo14 (talk) 20:20, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright man I will look into it soon.
Speaking of edits, would it be ok if I maybe reverted back to some of the originals I tried to make over the summer now that I’ve been proven innocent?
Like the “Player profile” tab on the Steven stamkos article to name an example? I know i used one too many quotes at first but if I re-add it I will make sure I use less. Obviously other players like Ovechkin, Crosby, Tavares, Kane, Iginla and McDavid have those tabs on theirs so could I re-add the one I initially tried to do on Stamkos ab his style of play and leadership? Gymrat16 (talk) 21:33, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't mass do it, maybe systematically. Like start with one, then after a week see if your edit is uncontested. Conyo14 (talk) 21:34, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes of course not. Take baby steps sort of. Obviously I want to make sure it’s done right. Like maybe do a few tonight then a few in a few days or something. Hopefully that's reasonable. Gymrat16 (talk) 21:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
would you mind in maybe taking a look at steven stamkos and tell me what you think? If you like it great if there are things that need to be tweaked tell me and I can take care of it. I will also get to work on that other edit and remove the over-citing from that other user you mentioned Gymrat16 (talk) 01:10, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should ask The Kip or sbaio as they have editing on BLPs than I do. The format seems fine though. Conyo14 (talk) 01:46, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh ok I did tell sbaio I was unblocked and that I was free to start gradually re-adding good faith edits i previously tried to make but I will talk to the Kip too. I just messaged him so hopefully I hear back soon Gymrat16 (talk) 02:49, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at the Leah Hextall article too and yes i agree there was too many citations so I got rid of 2 and kept 2. I will look at that persons history tomorrow and see if there is more articles that are needed Gymrat16 (talk) 01:34, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Conyo14. I looked into Leah Hextall and i agree there were too many citations so I got rid of 2 of them and left 2 of them. I will look at more that user did as well asap.
I do want to ask for a favor too if you don't mind since you have know been convinced of my innocence, I messaged sbaio to tell him that I am indeed a different person but he still doesn't believe it. I don't know what else to say so can you kindly tell him that I am indeed innocent because I don't know what else to say or do. I need character witnesses to help me at this point since he isn't believing anything I am saying and I don't want to stir anymore drama. Would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sincerely
Ethan Parker Gymrat16 (talk) 23:15, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, just let it go. He can't do any harm to you. If you see your edits get contested, raise the concern at the talk page and let WikiHockey know. Conyo14 (talk) 23:42, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright man thank you. I also added pictures of myself on my page so hopefully that os convincing enough if he happens to peak at it.
Sincerely
Ethan Parker Gymrat16 (talk) 23:45, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep off having too much of your personal info on the internet. Just don't worry about them haters. Conyo14 (talk) 01:51, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
absolutely I do not too much out there I did just a little so people can know a little bit about me whether it is him or anyone else if they view my page. Either way yes I have come to learn he is impossible to reason with even after the truth has been revealed so I guess I will just have to ignore him as much as possible. I just hope I don't get harassed myself by him down the road but for the time being yes I am going to do everything in my power to ignore as much as possible since I have been able to patch things up with the rest of you all and I obviously can't wait to work together with the rest of you all. We all want to make this site as great as possible and I know we'll make a decent team in executing that goal. Gymrat16 (talk) 14:47, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Conyo14. I looked at some of the citation issues from Khoa41860. The ones I looked at include the list of NHL on ESPN personalities, NHL on ABC, NBA on ABC, Jeff Van Gundy, Doris Burke, Ray Ferraro and Jim Schonfeld. I basically just reduced the citations on sentences on those respective articles. Like some had 5-7 and I reduced it to 1-2 or 3. Can you check them and tell me how I did just so I can know if I did it right or not? I know I did it right manually but I want feedback on the work and the amount I did. Thanks man. Gymrat16 (talk) 19:40, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent job. You can just put WP:OVERCITE as your edit summary. You may also notify Khoa41860 on their talk page copying this down under the section March 2024:
"Information icon Hello, I'm Gymrat16. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Jim Schoenfeld (or any of the other articles) have been partially undone because they had WP:OVERCITE issues. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks." (sign here) Conyo14 (talk) 19:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet!! Thank you very much for the feedback. Feels good to get those kind words to get my confidence back. I just said in the edit summaries that there were too many citations so hopefully that worked too. If it is necessary, I can continue to search for more in the upcoming days and keep on doing wht I just did with those since you've given me your liking for what I started with.
Back to getting my feet wet in the hockey players now too in baby steps, would it be a good idea if I added the fact that Ovi was the runner up for the Art Ross in 2010 and a finalist for the mark messier award in 2016 since I noticed those forgot to be mentioned?
And in the player profile tab similar to what it says on crosby welcoming new teammates with open arms another user wrote, could I mention how Ovi has shown admiration and respect for opposing players like with Carey Price in April 2022? I am sure you are aware all how misunderstood ovi is to some fans like many call him "selfish" and stuff which is obviously very inaccurate and mentioning how he welcomed Price back to the NHL personally with a fist bump after his knee injury and mental health treatment I think would show his character for readers and can get those haters who say he's "selfish" or whatever to maybe not do so anymore since his leadership isn't as well documented as others like Crosby or Stamkos? Let me know your thoughts on that because I think it is a unique trait but I want to hear feedback from others too. Thanks man
Ethan Parker Gymrat16 (talk) 21:12, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think you'll be fine, just be patient with your edits and be careful. You don't need me for anything else going further. I appreciate you helping me out with that disruptive editor, eventually I will take him to ANI, but right now he is still in the warning stages. Conyo14 (talk) 22:49, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok man thanks for the cooperation and enthusiasm. And yes no worries anytime. Citations are very important but when you overdue it like that it certainly looks questionable and obviously that is not what we want here on wikipedia. I just got back and because of that I feel like I should check in first as apart of gradually trying to get some of the things I initially said back in sounding right such as sentences or headers that aren't too long or short things like that. Like maybe after today wait a few more days and then maybe try 1-2 more then wait 4-5 days after that and so on so there is enough time between intervals to see if it has been touched or not. Of course I can always go back and tweak if anyone tells me to but that isn't really the point here. Gymrat16 (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just finished updating Ovi's article. I did the best I could to make sure it wasn't too run on because I think that was an issue for me initially over the summer and I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake again. I also added some charity related things to the "Off the ice" tab to his article since he like a lot of current and former players have been active in charities and such. I of course don't want to be a burden but if you have time maybe would you consider sneaking a peak at it and tell me your thoughts? Like is it good? Do I need to tweak it a little? I just want to ask to make sure I am not rushing it too much because I know we both agreed I would slowly work back. Thanks man and stay safe. Gymrat16 (talk) 02:05, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Something I've noticed. Please use an en dash when using the notation between two numbers, i.e. 2–4 as opposed to 2-4. The dash is for conjoined words. To type the en dash on desktop with a num key, you can do Alt + 0150. Or you can use the smaller of two dashes in the editing dialogue box. Conyo14 (talk) 03:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok thanks for letting me know I will go back and fix that later today. I usually do that but I did notice that I didn't here so I will go back and do it soon. Gymrat16 (talk) 12:16, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 Stanley Cup playoffs[edit]

If you spot anyone adding – boldwinner = high – to the bracket revert them, as this will cause a problem during a series as any team that has won more games than the team they are playing will be shown as the series winner even if the series is still ongoing. I tested it on 1–0, 2–0 etc. and the results were all the same. Deadman137 (talk) 01:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alright! Sounds good. Conyo14 (talk) 01:53, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should Dallas win tonight add the basic series preview for Colorado/Winnipeg to C2/C3 and keep it hidden as one or both of us will add the rest once the seeding and point totals are determined. Deadman137 (talk) 17:33, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just be ready for anything in the next hour. I'll be in my usual tip of the spear position. Deadman137 (talk) 01:12, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deadman137: I am prepared. Conyo14 (talk) 01:35, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To make a long story short there will be a lot of scenarios in the East on nhl.com tomorrow morning. Washington winning tomorrow is the easiest one, Philadelphia winning in regulation and the Red Wings and Penguins both losing their last games in regulation sets up a goal differential tiebreaker that puts the Flyers in is the most complicated. Deadman137 (talk) 02:36, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deadman137: I am not as prepared for that. There is still the scenario where Pittsburgh gets in simply by doing losing in OT/SO. Conyo14 (talk) 04:20, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it makes you feel better the Flyers scenario cannot happen until Wednesday and could be moot by tomorrow. They'd be tied with Washington in RW, ROW, head-to-head points if it happens. Deadman137 (talk) 04:52, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry it would be tied in RW, ROW, total wins, head-to-head points and tiebreaker goal differential. It's not a potential play-in game bad as we could have had a few years ago but it's still nasty if it happens. Deadman137 (talk) 05:34, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deadman137: Play-in could not happen this time, but it is insane that we got very close in 2017. That this tie breaker involves four teams is also pretty crazy. Conyo14 (talk) 05:59, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deadman137: Philly out with Detroit going to OT. Conyo14 (talk) 01:34, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and Detroit and Pittsburgh may not be far behind. Deadman137 (talk) 01:37, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If the Kings and Predators meet in round two, we will not be posting any tiebreaker information as it will confuse casual readers because Nashville wins the tiebreaker but is the fourth seed to the Kings' third seed. Deadman137 (talk) 05:09, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will still post a disclaimer similar to 2016 when Tampa had home ice but fewer points than the Islanders. Conyo14 (talk) 06:04, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Other than that the only possible scenarios where adding a tiebreaker would be necessary is a Florida/Winnipeg, Boston/Vancouver or Tampa/Vegas series. So it's highly probable that we won't have to add any this year. The only random historical trivia that is possible is Winnipeg going to the Finals and either the Jets or Canucks winning the Stanley Cup. So it might be a light trivia year. Now if the Coyotes come back into existence there is some historical stuff there, but it's way too early to get into that. Deadman137 (talk) 21:54, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I can only think of a few. But more people will find useless trivia. Conyo14 (talk) 22:42, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and we'll be there to see how useful it is. I was alerted through my watchlist to one of the stupidest edit wars on the site at Dynasty (sports).
On a playoff related note you might be able to get a jump on the web address of each game summary. It's only one game, but if what I saw after CAR/NYI G1 is any indication neither of us will have to wait around for the league to post the summary for the address. We'll still have to wait for the article title on the other hand. Deadman137 (talk) 00:18, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deadman137: I might sparingly use them this time around. I don't have access to the web summaries at work (IT blocking something). So, some could be AP News sources. Conyo14 (talk) 00:37, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it stays this simple I wouldn't put too much extra effort in: www.nhl.com/news/new-york-islanders-carolina-hurricanes-game-1-recap-april-20 Deadman137 (talk) 00:55, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is something going on with the league's site which could also be causing the problem because in the past, Citation bot would at least pull an article title and date from the site for a bare reference and now it won't.
On the plus side the link for the late game tonight was the same as the earlier one just change New York for Toronto and Boston for Carolina Deadman137 (talk) 04:13, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, okay, reliability of NHL.com is lacking. It's okay, I can still access NHL.com, just not the games Conyo14 (talk) 07:50, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just reiterating, work smart, not hard. As far as what you use for your sources there's no worry on my end because I know that you wouldn't use anything that wasn't credible. Just don't go too heavy on either the AP or the CP as the reporting for both is rather minimal and could miss details that we might find useful. I would lean on a league source at the end of a series, long overtime game or weird/rare occurrence because that's where the more of the historical trivia will be, but if you want something different on player 'x' scored twice in a win, I won't hold you to a league source. Deadman137 (talk) 18:41, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like playoff overtime broke Gamecenter for the Florida/Tampa game for about 20 minutes. The app looked like it fared better than the website. During the event you could still access the game summary feature to find the information that was needed. Deadman137 (talk) 03:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it most certainly broke the app. Conyo14 (talk) 04:53, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case it does happen, the last time there were three sweeps in the opening round was 2009, third time it has happened since 1987. If we're going to add something like this it would be best to limit it to since 1987 because there were six opening round sweeps in 1986 when the first round was a best-of-five. There has never been four sweeps in the opening since the 1987 change.

We even went a whole week without having any elimination games. Deadman137 (talk) 03:45, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We have the chance at four sweeps with DAL-VGK. We'll see if it comes true though. Conyo14 (talk) 04:22, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know that's why I mentioned that there hasn't been four. Obviously there is a long way to go before we need to worry about either, but I don't leave things to chance. The archives of this talk page contains a lot of useful historical hockey information that one day we may be able to use. Deadman137 (talk) 19:55, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Deadman137: I'll be AFK for the next hour and a half. Something will probably happen during the NYI-CAR game, so if CAR wins, my series recap is in my sandbox, it just needs a name in the obvious spot. Conyo14 (talk) 21:22, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep it did, and now we don't have to put any effort into four sweeps and if Florida keeps playing how they are today we won't have to worry about three sweeps either. Deadman137 (talk) 21:51, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
