Guardian

Thanks for being a guardian angel 💗 Celestina007 (talk) 21:36, 06 April 2017 (UTC)

@Celestina007: Thank's Celestina700, I think I can honesty say that's the first time anyone has called me that. I don't mind helping at all, but it's nice to know someone out there does appreciate the cleanup work I do. Cmr08 (talk) 20:48, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

On Ebele Okaro

@Cmr08 In your edit here [Click me] , you corrected me on using promotional tones, but technicaly I don't do that on purpose, my Wikipedia uses a citation generator, so I don't create any citations manually all I do is copy-paste a url to the citation generator and it engineers a citation using its own terminologies or words. I'm letting you know this because you have corrected me on this issue before & if I don't tell you what really is Happening, you would probably think I'm just headstrong or excessively stubborn.

@Celestina007: Wait a second, I never corrected you for using promotional tones, I removed the promotional tag lines from the citation templates. I know how they got there, it happens quite frequently, but I still had to say what I was doing in an edit summary when I removed them. They are the tag lines the website itself uses, so I want to be clear, I never said you were promoting anything. Cmr08 (talk) 23:59, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Is placing one footnote on George Makdisi article sufficient to remove notability template?

Dear Cmr08 I noticed you put a template on the George Makdisi article advising that the article didn't have enough footnotes to establish notability. I just added the first footnote. Is having one footnote sufficient to establish notability? I would think it would be. I, or other editors, can then add additional footnotes subsequently. Therefore may I remove notability template? Thank you, Greg Dahlen (talk) 11:36, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi!

I see you have entertained in the past the notion of fixing dashes. I have thousands to go, would you help me? --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 21:12, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

@ExperiencedArticleFixer:, dashes are one of the common MOS fixes I make when I come across them. I don't mind helping, is there a list or something that you want me to work on? Cmr08 (talk) 22:38, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
@Cmr08:, thanks for answering! The answer is yes, here's is a batch that can keep us bussy for months. Most of these articles need replacing dashes for ndashes, and fix spacing according to MoS. There is no bot for that... Let me know. Regards. --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 23:00, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
@ExperiencedArticleFixer:, ok, I'll take a look at this tomorrow. I'll start at end of category so we don't end up checking the same articles. Is this ok? Cmr08 (talk) 23:11, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
@Cmr08: This is great. Thank you so much! --ExperiencedArticleFixer (talk) 23:17, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Brendan Murphy Page

Hi. I hope it's OK to post a question on your page. Sorry to bother you again (you are just so helpful ;) I wanted to ask you another question about the page I created for Brendan Murphy. At the top of the page it says this: "This page is a new unreviewed article. This template should be removed once the page has been reviewed by someone other than its creator; if necessary the page should be appropriately tagged for cleanup" You looked at the page so I assumed that it has been reviewed. What do you need to do for this message to disappear? Many thanks (Siri2011 (talk) 14:17, 7 August 2017 (UTC))

Flagging Issues

Cmr08, first of all, thank you for contributing to the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Taillard.

I am coming to you with this matter because you have made edits to this article already and, according to your profile, you have more experience in Wikipedia than anyone else addressing this matter. The person who flagged my page (reddogsix) seems to have disappeared, and the other editors are too hesitant to get involved in a flag they didn't issue, themselves.

The reason I am writing you is that this article has been flagged for "possible violations of neutrality". If you read the Talk page on that article, it describes the circumstances of the page's creation, and we fully acknowledge that we know the person as a colleague. It is true that this potentially creates a conflict of interest. However, I have asked 2 separate editors to specify whether any violations of neutrality exist in the article, every time without response. As I am sure you are aware, simply because someone who knows the person contributes to an article does not inherently mean that the contributed content lacks neutrality. The article has since been edited several times by 4 or 5 different editors, as well as 3-4 other members of the public. Would you mind very much assessing the article to determine if the article needs any "cleaning", as the warning states? If it does, then it can be easily changed. If it does not, though, then I would appreciate the warning being removed from the article.

The 2nd warning is a possible lack of notability. I have described to the editor who flagged the article (again, reddogsix) that the person meets the Wikipedia qualifications for notability as an academic as well as an author. He responded stating that the article just seems to barely meet the criteria and that "the number of Worldcat entries would support notability", but he has seemed to disappear before removing the flag.

No matter your determination on the matter, I would like to finally get it resolved.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. Mtaillard (talk) 17:39, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

@Mtaillard: As far as I can tell, the only edit I made to your page was adding several categories. I'm not sure why you think I have more experience dealing with the issues mentioned than the other editors involved, because I can say with 100% certainty that the other editors you are dealing with are far more experienced than I am with dealing with the issues you address or really anything to do with Wikipedia. I cleanup articles, fix manual of style errors, add categories etc. I have never been involved with anything that has to do with tagging pages for conflict of interest, like I said helped out by adding a few categories to the page. The editors you are dealing with are good, well experienced editors at many aspects of Wikipedia. If they say they find issues with the article, I wouldn't doubt them, they deal with them all the time. Cmr08 (talk) 22:42, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
@Cmr08: My mistake. Looking at your profile, it appeared like you have been more active for a longer period. I suppose that doesn't mean more experience dealing with the same issues, though. Still, the person who flagged me sounded like they were going to remove the "notability" flag, and then they just disappeared. No one can get hold of him, and no one seems to want to remove flags that someone else placed. What do you suggest? Mtaillard (talk) 22:48, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
@Mtaillard: I would suggest giving other editors time to get back to you. Wikipedia is not their job, they have lives to live like everyone else. It looks like reddogsix was offline for about 12 hours, probably working, sleeping, or whatever they do when not on Wikipedia. Edit history shows they have been making edits for the last little while, so I'm sure they will eventually get back to you. Cmr08 (talk) 23:08, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Need Your Help

Hello @Cmr08: Repeatedly I am editing these pages from IP vandalism -

But certain IP address are again putting that incorrect things(Unsourced additions, adding time slots, good faith edits etc.) and now they are attacking me with messages to the effect that i should not try to change things. I strongly feel these pages need protection from such unwanted edits. Please look into the matter, Thanks :Sidaq pratap/talk 11 September 2017; 06:02 (UTC)

Hi @Sidaq pratap:, I have also reverted vandalism and other nonsense in some of these and similar articles over the last little while. However I'm not an admin, so I have nothing to do with page protection. WP:Requests for page protection is probably your best bet. There are instructions explaining how to go about requesting protection. I hope this helps. Cmr08 (talk) 06:35, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Help concerning Category pages

Dear @Cmr08: I uploaded a page today, Gortclohy, County Kerry. When I uploaded an image for it to Wikimedia Commons, using the upload wizard, the category of 'Townlands of County Kerry' did not appear as a drop-down in the text field, but townlands of other Irish Counties did. I began the process of creating a new category and while I was doing this I found, through another Wikipedia page, that there exists a category page called Townlands of County Kerry. Is this just a problem with the upload wizard? There was a 'Townlands of Ireland' which is what I've settled for until you can advise. Thanks Dm4244 (talk) 22:11, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Your correction on Knanaya Region

I appreciate the corrections you made. I am new in this. So this is a learning experience for me. I will be careful on this in the future. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jacobbijo1 (talkcontribs) 13:40, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Jacobbijo1:, it's no problem, I figured you were new and didn't know all about manual of style yet. Just a heads up, looking at your articles, there's some potential issues. You have added all kinds of external links directly to the text, where they are not supposed to be linked. Any links in the text should be wikilinks to other Wikipedia articles. If there is no Wikipedia article, then there should be no link. External links are not replacements. I cleaned up one of the articles you edited Cherpunkal. Just look at that one and see what I did. When I get a chance I'll take a look and see if I can fix other manual of style for you. Any help, just let me know. Cmr08 (talk) 19:34, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
Hi @Cmr08:, Thanks again. Now I got it. I am also now reviewing the Wiki help. I understand that I have to learn more. Please correct me for all mistakes. I will take out the external links in "Knanaya Region." Jacobbijo1 (talk) 21:16, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewing

Hello, Cmr08.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced Wikipedia editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 09:45, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Dear Cmr08 thank you for your contributionJakelewis2 (talk) 09:39, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear Cmr08 thank you for helping. I did not understand when you commented saying 'Relationship with Politics: fix header per manual of style'? I am new and I appreciate the support, including the help you provided with fixing a citation. ThanksJakelewis2 (talk) 10:03, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

@Jakelewis2:, I meant I was putting the header in the correct format that follows Wikipedia's manual of style. See WP:Head, headers are in sentence case, which is why I put the header in sentence case. Cmr08 (talk) 01:24, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear Cmr08 thanks for the explanation and the advise you gave me for not linking common words. Jakelewis2 (talk) 06:26, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Hie Cmr08 sorry to bother you, I thought I was doing the right thing in terms of using the <ref>. Maybe I didn't understand your correction. I looked at other source codes and it seemed like the full stop goes before the <ref> and the <ref> goes after the statement.Jakelewis2 (talk) 07:35, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Maybe I can read your articles Cmr08, to see how you cite sorry to bother you I really appreciate your help. As for the header I was following headers from other articles I saw. For example ==header== was what I saw in other articles.Jakelewis2 (talk) 07:35, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Thank you Cmr08 I see now that what you meant was that the . goes before the <ref>Jakelewis2 (talk) 07:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

I am now getting used to the platform now thanks Jakelewis2 (talk) 07:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Help regarding review of the page Lost Kashmiri History

Hey. I saw you had made some edits on the page Lost Kashmiri History. Thanks. I was wondering that since you are an autopatroller, do you think you could review the page if it is suitable enough? The page was created on 14:04, 2 February 2018. If more changes are required on the page please do let me know.DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 06:57, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi @DiplomatTesterMan:, yes I have autopatrolled rights, but that has nothing to do with what your asking. Autopatrolled rights just mean that articles I create are automatically patrolled. It's nothing special, you're probably looking for someone who is a patroller. Cmr08 (talk) 05:08, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I had misunderstood the Wikipedia help pages on these topics then and assumed the wrong thing about autopratolling, my mistake. Sorry for the inconvenience.DiplomatTesterMan (talk) 07:58, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
@DiplomatTesterMan:, it was no inconvenience. Feel free to ask me anything you want on my talk page. If I can be of any help, I will. If I don't know, I might be able to at least point you in the right direction. Cmr08 (talk) 08:24, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

AfD Edits

Hello. I am new to wikipedia and today is my first day and I signed up to learn how editing works (kind of like learning a new language. The first random generated article given was John Monday. Saw that it was up for AfD, so I tried to save it by working hard in doing research. What do you think will happen? As I am new to wikipedia and I am just learning the ropes, do you think all my hard work will have gone to waste? I get it if that is the case with wiki's policy or what not, but is there any hope in saving the article? I am happy to do more research.... if not, I will just click on the next random generated article that wikipedia sends my way for me to work on and edit to continue my wiki journey......Thanks in advance. Also, thank you for fixing some of my references and grammar on the website as it is hard to see it all when there is so much source code. Hope you're having a nice dayWikifulwonderment (talk) 23:11, 23 February 2018 (UTC).

@Wikifulwonderment:, unless you can show through reliable sources that the article meets WP:NACTOR and WP:GNG, then it will probably be deleted. Since you are new, the best thing to do is read up on our policies and guidelines before you jump right in and start editing articles. I'll add a couple of links to your talk page. CBRM

I have completed my epic edit of Cape Breton Regional Municipality. If you have a moment to give it a once over that would be swell - it needed a lot of work and I am sure I made edit mistakes along the way. Cheers WayeMason (talk) 03:20, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi @WayeMason:, epic indeed. I think you have improved that article big time. I just fixed a couple of manual of style edits, and fixed two of the error messages in references section. The remaining three error messages have to do with the group names in the "Climate" section, there's no citation to go with them. Can you check and see if you have the references associated with them? Even just glancing at the article, it's clear you did a great job. Cmr08 (talk) 06:17, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Fixed. I went to the CBRM page to place a photo I had taken.... one photo. Over a week later... totally re-written!  :) WayeMason (talk) 11:46, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, Cmr08

...for explaining that you just changed the heading (Notes and references) on the Leandro Soto Ortiz page -- I'm still getting used to the history section. I subsequently discovered that there are two ways of doing footnotes, so even the change that was made by another editor (in removing the single reference) is now understandable. Also, thank you for your consideration in refraining from further edits for now -- as a beginner, I'm finding it quite the challenge just to make the edits! When I'm done, I would welcome your finding the page again to make any suggestions. Lauraj210 (talk) 22:39, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

@SnowyBadger: Hi there, I'm not sure if a page to list Victoria General Hospitals would be needed. There is already a disambiguation page Victoria Hospital that includes articles titled Victoria General Hospital. If there are any not listed, that would probably be the place to add them, including Halifax which I see is missing from list. What other Victoria General Hospitals have articles? I see Victoria, Winnipeg, Halifax. Cmr08 (talk) 23:34, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

dcw2003

Dcw2003 (talk)Hey Cmro8. I have an issue with another user, Sitush, who has threatened to delete all of my revisions on many of my documents. He doesn't like my frequent use of headers and he thinks they are too lengthy. He is serious about this. He also claims I use too many references, which I would think is a good thing, as I have a better way of verifying my work. Can you help? Is there a grievance committee, and is it effective? Can you refer me to it? I don't know if Sitush has the ability or user rights to completely delete my work, but he believes he does and plans to do it. Most of the documents I work on start with only a few lines of text, and have been targeted as stubs, so I don't understand what his issue is. I have worked literally on 100's of stubs for wikipedia, most of them boxers. I use original sources primarily period newspapers, and always more than one, but ocassionally I look at boxing web sites though I verify their use with many other better sources.

I know I can always put my work back by changing the revision level, but he would probably delete it all again. Is this vandalism or prohibited in any way? What are the wik rules governing this?

He is serious about reverting reverting my documents back to where none of my "revisions" are visible. Can he do this? Do administrators have a right to do this? I don't think he is an administrator, and I'm sure I have written more articles, but don't think that matters.

Please help if you can!

David , dcw2003, Thanks

Thank you for your recent organizing of the Marshall, Michigan article. I have added several quality citations (books and news articles) to the article to address maintenance template on the article. Could you please comment in the talk on the article as to whether you think the maintenance message can now be removed (i.e. provide an additional editor opinion)? Categories

Hello Cmr08. Thank you for the work on the categories section of the articles Norman J. W. Thrower and George Kuwayama. I do not particularly understand this section so well, and I'm not even sure if I am to include categories or not include them when I create the article. I would appreciate it if you would take quick look at the categories I added on the two articles and let me know if they are appropriate. Kind regards,Hu Nhu (talk) 20:40, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Hu Nhu, to be honest with you, I've been editing since 2008, and I still have a hard time understanding them myself. When I add categories, I just add the ones that are obvious from the sourced text, like birth, death, alumni, faculty etc. The ones you added seem ok to me. Cmr08 (talk) 21:42, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
A most excellent response, Cmr08! I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one with quite a few edits who finds the underside of Wikipedia a bit confusing. I would very much like to do further DYK nominations, but I must review some due to the QPQ requirement. But I cannot determine exactly how to manage the technical end of the reviewing. Reading the DYK page is not so helpful for me. I appreciate your attention to the two articles. Most kind regards, Hu Nhu (talk) 22:11, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thank you message

Hi @Cmr08, I'm not sure where to put this message (I'm new and learning the ropes). But I just wanted to give a heartfelt thank you for looking over two of the articles I've worked on. Your contributions made me feel like an experienced peer was helping me ensure the work was in good order. :) MackenzieBailey (talk) 20:30, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

@MackenzieBailey:, it's no problem at all. Glad to help. Cmr08 (talk) 05:55, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
