September 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guideline to avoid editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Thank you. TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 21:42, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

=Status and Advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the article--not just because of the copyvio--which indeed can be cured--but because the content was essentially promotional--and in addition, I doubt there is any real chance of showing notability as distinct from the medical center as a whole. . If you want to rewrite, you need to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases You also need to write like an encyclopedia article, not a press release--don't praise yourself, say what you do. Don't talk about the overall importance of the subject--talk about what you do. Don;t list all the staff. Only the chairman, ceo, and anyone there who is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article in their own right. It is never a good idea to copy from a web site -- even if you give us permission according to WP:DCM, the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable, as was the case here. . For further information see our FAQ about business, organizations, and articles like this.

If you decide instead to write an article on the medical center, which probably is notable , remember the same rules for avoiding promotionalism. DGG ( talk ) 22:04, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, StJosephsPhx, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Cirt (talk) 18:53, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to josephs1895 (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by: Beeblebrox (talk)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

I'm going ahead and unblocking you since you were told that your username was the only reason for the block, but I would have included using Wikipedia for advertising or promotion in the reasons if I had blocked you. Please follow the good advice given by DGG above and do not post further promotionally-toned material to Wikiepedia. Thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:21, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
