Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman edits

May I ask why you removed the "history" section and introduction on Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman? Reilly 23:46, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely: it was a copyright-violating copy-paste from their website. - CrazyRussian talk/email 01:20, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Cielomobile, the score you are using can't be any good. At least the spellings "Ballade von der Sexuellen Hörigkeit", "Ballade vom Angenehmen Leben" and "Lied von der Unzulänglichkeit Menschlichen Strebens" are completely wrong, as adjectives are never capitalized in German. And—other than in English—there is no general capitalization of words in headlines in German. Look at Die Dreigroschenoper in German wikipedia for a complete and correct list of the German song titles according to Brecht's piece. — I know there are some variants between the piece (or the libretto) and the score (it's "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" in the libretto but "Die Moritat vom Mackie Messer" in the score), but I don't have a score at hand to check them all out. --FordPrefect42 22:37, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your answer. Agreed, I will copy our little discussion to the talk page and answer there. --FordPrefect42 06:57, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Cielomobile, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Thx for posting on the talk page. I'll be gratefull if you could let me know what you think of the article in general. Balanced? Biaised? Too long? Too many details? easy/diffciult to read ... Roger jg 05:03, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, not to be a jerk. But wouldn't the fact that the title of the article is Jewel, Texas make it unecessary to include the fact that it is in texas in the first sentence?A mcmurray 07:28, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Homophone

It is listed back to the original nomination place. My apologies.

BTW, it's just a coincident that you just passed Derek and the Dominos. I see that all images there are copyrighted without fair use rationale (criterion 6.a). Just to let you know, perhaps you might reconsider GA status for the article.

Cheers. — Indon (reply) — 07:47, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I just read your message. When I was going to leave you a message in the Homophone article, User:Agne27 has already reviewed it. So, I guess you might want to communicate with her about her judgment. However indeed I tend to agree that the article needs some expansions. Cheers. — Indon (reply) — 11:12, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Copyright on images

Hi Cielomobile.

First of all, thank you for your contributions to the homophony article. I have to point out that the images you took from Grove (Tallis, Chopin) are copyright violations; it appears you copied and pasted them from the homophony article there. Even though the source is out of copyright, the versions they made are covered by copyright. Please do not take images from Grove, as it exposes us to completely unacceptable risk. You also did not give the source for where you got them.

I would suggest notating the examples, or others like them, in either Sibelius or Finale, saving them as PNG files, and posting those (that's how I handle this issue). Thanks, Antandrus (talk) 18:06, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!! I appreciate it. I use Finale myself, and even though it can be a lot of trouble, we can then make our images PD. Nothing scares me more than copyright issues on Wikipedia, now that we're so famous. Happy editing! Antandrus (talk) 18:11, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Nice work! One of the things we've been needing in the music area is actual notated examples, so if you ever feel like doing some more ... :-) I keep reminding myself of that too but never quite get around to it. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 04:25, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Maybe the best way would be to post there on Wikiproject music (or one of the subprojects) with the offer. I think almost all the articles on specific pieces -- and there must be hundreds -- could benefit from a musical example (e.g. for the Symphonie Fantastique "here is the main theme for piece, as it appears in the first movement" "here is it as it is transformed in the second" "this is what it looks like in the March to the Scaffold" ) -- and sometimes articles on composers could benefit from an example or two (for example I put one in Guillaume Dufay). There's a lot of potential here. Fun, Antandrus (talk) 04:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Signature

Thanks a lot. I just needed the code, since I know my way around HTML, was just too lazy to code it myself. So much for being lazy, I decided to reformulate most of it, but really, thanks a lot and cheers for the detailed explanation you provided.

There's something I'd like to mention, though. I believe you should avoid the use of the <font> tag, as it invalidates the XHTML of Wikipedia. My suggestion is to use <span style="color:#000000;">, where all those zeroes are for the black color.

Oh, and I'm part of Esperanza too. Keep up the good work.

elephant pic

it's clearly an asian elephant or someone has mutilated that poor loxodonta's ears. note the smoother texture of the skin as well. It is a young Asian bull. The gallery from which it was taken has a tiger as the next shot--more evidence perhaps that it was an Asian elephant photographed in India. The location given for the photo, Karnataka, should be proof enough. Perhaps he is just a very lost little guy:

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Stormy Monday

What parts do I need to cite? I'm not sure how I would do that but the shifting of the feel to a waltz-time is seen in the Vol. 1 of the ABB guitar tab book where it says jazz-waltz feel for the guitar chords that are comped during the organ solo, and the edited harmonica solo I've heard on the soundboard live tape from the 3/13/71 Fillmore East show, and I also believe it is heard on the "Fillmore Concerts" version of the Fillmore East album. Peachslide 05:48, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Hm, I see. I'm sure that theres something in the liner notes of the Fillmore Concerts (not just the regular Fillmore East or Fillmore East Deluxe Edition) saying how the harmonica solo was put back in, but I can't be sure as I don't have that album. Peachslide 11:46, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh ok, then would the tab book be enough?Peachslide 11:17, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Isis Good Article review

I see you're a music fan, guitarist and so on. With that in mind, and hopefully not being rude about it, I was wondering if I could fast-track you to Isis (band)'s GA nom. Even if you don't have the time to go it over with a fine-tooth comb, a little feedback would be gratefully received. Thanks for your time - oh, and if you have any tips on how I might become involved with the GA review process, I'd be interested to hear them. Seegoon 16:43, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your input - I'm glad you've been unforgiving in your assessment, as it's given me the impetus to give it a good go-over. I'd become satisfied with sloppy aspects of it just through familiarity, so now I can look at it with a fresh outlook. In a month or two I may re-nom. Until then, I think I'll begin to become a part of the GA review process, and I'll make sure to bug you whenever I have an queries. Again, thanks! Seegoon 02:56, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
