FAC[edit]

I've left some more comments, and I've done quite a bit of copy-editing. Please don't be afraid to undo anything I've done which you don't like, or where I've changed any meanings. And feel free to tell me to go away and stop interfering at any point! Sarastro1 (talk) 19:34, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can only hope it succeeds your expectations now, at this point. Bruce Campbell (talk) 21:22, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blame Game[edit]

The review for "Blame Game" is up. Get to it!--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 23:07, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did as much as I could with copy-editing. Understand some extraneous stuff and diction changes, but if the editor still feels more should be done, perhaps he should specify what. Dan56 (talk) 02:34, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Congrats on your first featured article: Terms of Endearment (The X-Files). Keep up the great work! TBrandley 02:52, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats. Now get down into that basement and carve yourself a witch. GRAPPLE X 02:53, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
LMAO, wtf? It didn't even get spotchecked. How awesome though! I really have to thank the 5000 people who copy-edited though, they were really the heroes. I really just pimped out the article's foundation. Bruce Campbell (talk) 03:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A spotcheck isn't a necessity, though it is rare for a new FA nominator not to be asked for one. I can only assume that since myself and Gen. Quon had vouched for the sources, and we've had several noms in the past using the same source materials, that that was taken as an approval of the article reflecting the sources—with six prior The X-Files FAs they're probably pretty confident we're not making it all up. While I'm here, hate to bother you but could you let me know about my response to your source suggestions on the "Ice" ACR? I'd like to move to FAC soon but I don't want to miss anything at the ACR first. Thanks! GRAPPLE X 15:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't comment further cause I had nothing else to add after the support. I just figured I would bring them to attention, even if they were redundant. lol It was approved either way. I guess I'm gonna start working on "Home" for my second attempt. Bruce Campbell (talk) 16:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rated R[edit]

That's not my point. I had agreed to User: Tomica that we would improve the Rihanna albums. It's not very good faith considering you think it is GA worthy by making one edit when myself and Tomica have contributed to the article far more than what you have. It can be a three way nomination. Plus, there are still a lot of things which need to be improved. AARONTALK 11:52, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Calvin especially with the last query. The article it's still not ready and can be quickly failed. The references are total mess. Here and there the prose needs to be fixed. Do you agree we quickly work on the article today and tomorrow and make it a 3 way nomination? Cheers! — Tomíca(T2ME) 12:01, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever just do what you want with it, nm. Bruce Campbell (talk) 15:39, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

X-Files Stuff[edit]

That's awesome. I've been meaning to get back to work, but I still am recovering from all the work I did. I'm glad to see season 3 is finally nearly done!--Gen. Quon (Talk) 02:19, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, it seems that way. I did a few (Kaddish, Leonard Betts, probably some more) awhile back, but I focused my energy on 6 and 7 (my favorite seasons), then decided to get 8 and 9 while I was there. I started 2 and 5 and was going to work my way in the middle before I just ran out of steam. Season 4 is a really good season, though, so I feel bad it wasn't getting any love.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 02:41, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, have you seen the whole series? If so, would you mind voting at Wikipedia:WikiProject The X-Files A-Class review. I'd love to get some of those promoted and moved out of there; they've been sitting for awhile.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 02:50, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I added The X-Files (season 3) up at the good topic nomination board!--Gen. Quon (Talk) 06:52, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I've been delaying.. I'll try to do that this weekend. Go ahead and do "Home", that will be a good addition!--Gen. Quon (Talk) 16:44, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I finished off "Synchrony" with what Gen. Quon provided me, but you can add more on that if you can. I also expanded Sanguinarium with info from Meisler's book, and will later see if I can add anything to the remaining gaps. Let's close off the series! igordebraga 02:31, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you and Quon have access to more sources than I, than you could finish the remaining two articles better than I ever could. I'll review them when they get done, either way. The main article is in pretty good condition too, ya'll are so damn close! Bruce Campbell (talk) 03:10, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've got Meisler's book, and after much waiting he gave me scans of the Cinefantastique review, Wanting to Believe and The Complete X-Files pertaining to Synchrony. Can you offer anything else? (and you can kick-off the improvement as well, if pushing older articles to FA level isn't your priority at the moment) igordebraga 04:57, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll expand Synchrony in a bit once I'm done with Home. I don't really have any particular priority, I'm just trying to be helpful. I really only work on one FA article at a time (atleast so far). Bruce Campbell (talk) 18:45, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'm going to submit "all things". It's been in the queue longest. Either that or "Deadalive". That one is in pretty good shape too. The problem I've started to run into is that I have a backlog of A-Class contenders, and the process takes so long...--Gen. Quon (Talk) 04:32, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As long as they're in good shape going in you could see about co-nomming things. Whoever brought "Home" to GA could be a co-nominator for it, allowing either of the nominators to add a second nomination. GRAPPLE X 18:26, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For "Home", Gen. Quon was the GA nominator, and Trust Is All You Need was the main contributor. I was gonna nominate in a bit. I don't really have anything else cooking other than "Oubliette", which is far away, so it doesn't quite matter to me either way. It's Quon who has like a dozen articles stockpiled. Bruce Campbell (talk) 18:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've been a little busy this week, but I should be able to take a look before the weekend. If it is OK with you, I'll copy-edit directly, and post any questions to the article talk page. Hi Bruce Campbell. I'm notifying you that I will be reviewing this article. You have waited long enough. Please expect comments very soon at the review page. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 02:10, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much. Honestly, I forgot it was even nominated. I think I worked on it... a quarter of a year ago? I cant even remember. Hope its still in good condition. Bruce Campbell (talk) 02:16, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit to "Terms of Endearment"[edit]

Hi Bruce, as I lightly copyedited this article before promotion to FA, I still had it on my watchlist when you made your recent edit. I think the wrong lesson was learnt from the "Home" FAC. If you say "Terms of Endearment" is the seventh episode of the sixth season of the American science fiction television series The X-Files, which originally aired on the Fox network on January 3, 1999", the comma and "which" effectively say that the The X-Files originally aired on 3 Jan 99. I think what you meant is that this particular episode aired then, and using "and" gets that across a little better I think. It's something to consider on all TV episode articles, to avoid confusion between the show as a whole and one particular episode. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:38, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just went and reverted my own edit, in general anything learned from the "Home" FAC was questionable. Thank you. Bruce Campbell (talk) 23:44, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Home FAC[edit]

I see that you withdrew the Home FAC. I hope this has not been too discouraging. As I've just said somewhere else, FAC can be a frustrating experience for a variety of reasons. Prose is a very tricky thing to get right. I think the problem, as in your previous FAC, is partly owing to editors, with the best of intentions, jumping in to support without really looking too closely at prose. Of the comments you got, Sandy is always worth listening to and she cares deeply about the integrity of FAC. Such comments as this are common at FAC, where reviewers prefer to give examples rather than list any problems they see. Admittedly, this makes it hard to see what the problems are, but tends to save time at FAC. To be honest, I was less convinced by the other oppose; over-linking is not such a huge issue, and I'm not sure I agree with all of the prose issues listed, but the typos listed do illustrate why more eyes are a good thing.

A copy-edit does not always resolve every issue (as you may have gathered with this article!), and an effective copy-edit requires a long time spent re-visiting the article. I find it is better to find 3 or 4 people to look before going anywhere near FAC, and approach them directly. The more eyes, the better the result. I would suggest not just relying on copy-editors, but to find someone really, really good at prose to help and even if they only copy-edit a section, look at what they do and why. Also look at this article and some of the prose exercises on Tony1's user page; these pages are invaluable for improving prose. If you can see what it is that reviewers see, it reduces the need for copy-editors and avoids some of the problems that one or two articles may have had at FAC recently. I hope you keep going for FAs (my first FAC was a train-wreck on prose grounds!). Sarastro1 (talk) 21:48, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The X-Files main page[edit]

Do you want to start work on the main page while "Home" cools a bit? I've been working on "Broadcast and release". I don't really care who has what, though.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 01:33, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Ryanndon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ryanndon.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 20:28, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Late Registration[edit]

Your GAN for this article is being reviewed, and there is a contentious aspect of the article that the reviewer is bringing up: the ratings template. Just wanted to let you know; he might fail it on those grounds alone, saying things like "I cant pass this article with this template" but "whatever happens after" is whatever. Dan56 (talk) 21:53, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The initial review for Late Registration has been completed and is now on hold. The article is fine, and I don't see significant problems other than enthusiastic tone. A copy edit should resolve the quibbles I have. I have put on hold for an initial seven days, but I am prepared to keep the review open until the copy-editing has been done, and I appreciate that we are now in the holiday season. See: Talk:Late Registration/GA1. SilkTork ✔Tea time 12:55, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am no longer editing on Wikipedia. Either just fail it or Dan56 can take care of it or whoever else wants to. Bruce Campbell (talk) 21:54, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Lostintheworldkanye.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lostintheworldkanye.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:02, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Main Page appearance: Terms of Endearment (The X-Files)[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Terms of Endearment (The X-Files) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on February 27, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 27, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Bruce Campbell

"Terms of Endearment" is the seventh episode of the sixth season of the American science fiction television series The X-Files, originally airing in January 1999. The show centers on FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) who work on cases linked to the paranormal called X-Files. In this episode, an unborn child is apparently abducted from its mother's womb by a demon after the prospective parents discover that their child has birth defects, leading Mulder and Scully to investigate. They discover that Wayne Weinsider (played by Bruce Campbell, pictured in 2011) is a child-abducting demon. The episode received mixed reviews. The plot was criticised but Campbell, already well known as a cult film actor in several Sam Raimi horror movies, received positive comments for his performance. Critics have complimented the episode's unique representation of its antagonist, who has been classified as a sympathetic villain. Many of the episode's special effects were created without elaborate computer-generated effects. It earned a Nielsen rating of 10.5 and was watched by 18.7 million people on its initial broadcast. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Just Sayin' Hi![edit]

Hi Bruce Campbell! Your name popped up the other day, and I saw that you edited the other day. Just wanted to say hi, and that I hope you're doin' well! I'm going over some of my past edits for a project I'm working on, and I came across some of the X-Files 'fights' that we all had with other editors c. 2012; anyway, I'm still miffed that the FACers were asshats to you back in the day.--Gen. Home (The X-Files) scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the Home (The X-Files) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 11, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 11, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:39, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
