Adding Information[edit]

I have added some information on the fort site, Fort Williams. I had hunted the field quite a few years ago where the fort was approximately located and have in fact, have a small amount of relics from this fort.Bob Kinney (talk) 20:53, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid accounts of your own personal discoveries are not appropriate for an encyclopedia - Wikipedia is only written based on reliable sources (see WP:RS). Also, contributors to articles should not write in the first person about themselves. Neatsfoot (talk) 21:04, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question about adding[edit]

I would like to add this page: http://www.pa-roots.com/bedford/history/fortpiper.html to this page list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Colonial_forts_in_Pennsylvania

Thanks Bob Kinney (talk) 15:40, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That category page is not one you can actually edit. It automatically shows all the existing Wikipedia articles which have [[Category:Colonial forts in Pennsylvania]] on them. What you could do is, write an article about Fort Piper, using that link as a source. Look at some of the other articles listed to see what it might be like, and read WP:Your first article for advice. Note that you must not copy sentences directly from the source page, which is copyright: you have to write in your own words, see Wikipedia:Copy-paste. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:57, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Further note on copyright[edit]

You said you had contacted the source to get permission to use their material. Copyright is a tricky business: Wikipedia is released under the CC-BY-SA license, which allows any reader to copy, modify and re-use the content for any purpose including commercial. The copyright owner needs to understand that: it means that release "for Wikipedia only", or even "for educational purposes only" is not good enough. How to make an appropriate release is explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, and the general information about copyright is at Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors' rights and obligations. You may have to write an article in your own words, linking to the source website as a reference. JohnCD (talk) 16:42, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Fort Piper has been accepted[edit]

Fort Piper, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!
