The article Kadant has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

All the sources are either primary or directories that simply confirm that the company exists. GNews hits are scarce. Doesn't seem to meet WP:CORP or even WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deletions[edit]

Hi. You will have noticed by now that all the articles created by you and your China university colleagues are in course of deletion. Just creating business entries from stock exchange lists is counter productive to the encyclopedia and it takes up a lot of volunteer time to review and delete these unwanted articles. That said, we are not wholly convinced that this is a genuine educational project, but you and your friends must start communicating with us if you wish to continue to contribute to Wikipedia and avoid being eventually blocked for causing us so much work. Such blocks would affect the entire IP addresses of the universities concerned - we want to avoid that. I'll just add that I am an admin and an online ambassador for education projects and I'm in a position to help. Regards, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 06:00, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to do it and avoid deletions[edit]

I too am an admin who as worked with education projects, and very extensively with business articles. I have perhaps a little more sympathy with such articles than some of my colleagues.
The first step in making such an article is to find a sufficiently important company. There are probably thousands of sufficiently notable companies for which we do not have articles. One or two of the companies that were selected are in my opinion clearly notable, and some are at least borderline. As a rough guide, a company on the NYSE or the similar most important stock exchanges are likely to be notable; a company on NASDAQ is much less likely, but still possible. (I have insufficient experience to judge the significance of the list on exchanges outside Western Europe)
The second step is to look for references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. Most announcements of financial results are not substantial references--the information can be used, but does not show notability , because even the least notable company has financial reports. Similarly with announcements about the appointment or replacement of officers, or of investments of capital. It helps very much if the company makes the sort of products that are likely to be reviewed in independent sources, but they need to be full published reviews, not mere product announcements. This is a great difficulty with many b-to-b companies, where such reviews are much less common--for such firms, it may be impossible to show notability by our own customary standards, even though they might be important by common sense.
The third step is to write the appropriate contents. We do not usually list executives beyond the CEO. We do not usually list minor philanthropies. List major but not minor awards. Nominations are not awards. List major products and say what they are, but not minor variations. For computer software, we indicate major but not minor revisions. We do not describe in detail routine functions of products. All banks offer much the same services, tho they may promote them by different names & lay great emphasis for advertising purposes on the trivial differences.
Follow our style. For people we use their last name only unless there is ambiguity, except the first time they are mentioned when we give the full name and titles. For companies we use the full name only once unless there's ambiguity; after that use an abbreviated name of "the firm" or "the company"-- or "it". We link things only once, at the first mention. We do not use the trademark or registered patent or copyright symbols. We do not use full caps, even if the company does. Use colloquial English in phrases appropriate for the subject, but not business jargon. Companies have headquarters in a city, they are not headquartered. Avoid needless words, like originally founded. Use a spelling checker, and also check manually, slowly, and have someone else check also. Use the past tense for historical events, not the present tense. In 1999, they opened an office, not in 1991 they open Preferably write dates in the style appropriate for the country: for the US it's February 30, 2001. not 2/30/2001. For most other countries it's 30 February 2001. Avoid using tables except for numerical data. Avoid use bulleted points unless there's no clear alternative: WP is not Powerpoint.
Ask for help when needed. Use AfC if in doubt, because a incorrectly written article will just be sent back for changes there, not deleted. To avoid suspicions of being a paid editor, if you are in a class, say so on your user page. If by chance you are a paid editor or associated with the subject, say so on your user page and always write using AfC and talk pages, not mainspace. DGG ( talk ) 22:47, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
