DYK for Sirimavo Bandaranaike

On 14 January 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sirimavo Bandaranaike, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1960, Sirimavo Bandaranaike became the first woman elected as a non-hereditary head of government in modern history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sirimavo Bandaranaike. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Sirimavo Bandaranaike), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Disambiguation link notification for April 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited National Security Council (Sri Lanka), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page State Intelligence Service (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Template:Ethnic groups in Sri Lanka

Hello Blackknight12, I thought I'd let you know that there was a discussion on the template in late 2017/early 2018 and that is the version I reinstated before I was blocked. I noticed you disagreed with the edits I was trying to make earlier on last month so as a compromise, I'm happy to drop the changes that I was trying to make which led to an edit war in exchange for restoring the original version that was agreed upon in January 2018. Is that okay with you? If not, we can discuss at the template's talk page. (2001:8003:4E41:F200:4C60:3FFC:3BAC:8F4 (talk) 13:35, 1 June 2019 (UTC))

Hello, could you please reply to my message? Are you okay with the compromise I have offered? (101.182.76.233 (talk) 03:25, 4 June 2019 (UTC))
Sorry I've been busy. It's good to see that you have said that you will work within Wikipedia's guidelines. I'm well aware of the discussion. There was no "agreement" on any version of the template, but only a decision to merge the two. I have updated the template as to avoid the problematic points that previously existed. We should stay away from excessively grouping of people and using xenophobic words such as "Foreigners" and use more neutral terms.--Blackknight12 (talk) 10:32, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
That's okay I understand, I think the earlier version was better because some of the groups that live in Sri Lanka are expatriates and aren't citizens. I think this version which was brought up in this discussion towards the end of the post is the best version to use. What do you think? (101.182.76.233 (talk) 11:06, 4 June 2019 (UTC))
This template isn't about who is a citizen and who is not, it is simply a list of the different ethnic groups or nationalities that are found in the country. Furthermore not all Indians and Chinese people living in the country are citizens, there are many Chinese and Indian expatriates too. And it does not make sense to have a group called Immigrants and a group called Expatriates when they essentially refer to the same thing.--Blackknight12 (talk) 03:37, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
I respectfully disagree because the articles about Indians in Sri Lanka and Chinese in Sri Lanka are about the local Indian and Chinese communities in Sri Lanka that migrated to the country centuries ago. Neither of those two articles speak about expatriate populations involving Indian and Chinese nationals. I personally think the previous version of the template was better because the current version basically renders local Sri Lankan Indian, Chinese and Malay communities as foreigners like expatriate Koreans and Japanese despite the fact that they have been living in Sri Lanka long before the country became independent from the British. Also, I don't understand the use of the word "traditional" to refer to the Sinhalese and Tamils. What does "traditional" mean in this context? Personally, I think the previous version of the template was better. I think reverting back to the original version that was suggested during an official discussion is the best way to go. (2001:8003:4E41:F200:900D:F1C8:3C70:7CED (talk) 08:30, 8 June 2019 (UTC))
I also think per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle we must revert back to the original version until we reach a consensus. (2001:8003:4E41:F200:900D:F1C8:3C70:7CED (talk) 08:34, 8 June 2019 (UTC))

A tag has been placed on Category:Magistrate's Courts of Sri Lanka judges requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Indo-Aryan Settlement in Sri Lanka

As there is not yet an article on Indo-Aryan Settlement in Sri Lanka, I have changed the red links in template:History of Sri Lanka and Kingdom of Tambapanni to Indo-Aryan migration.

If you do create such an article, I suggest Indo-Aryan settlement in Sri Lanka (with lowercase "s" in "settlement"). – Fayenatic London 20:47, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

2019 Sri Lankan presidential election

Hi, I would to like to ask clarifications from you since you are the page creator for the 2019 Sri Lankan presidential election. Is it possible to retain the current election and current event templates until 18 November despite the conclusion of the election on 16 November. I am confused whether to remove the templates until the release of election results. Thanks. Abishe (talk) 14:02, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!
