I'm sure it's true, but I've looked through the published secondary material that I have to hand, and haven't yet been able to find anything suitable. Hi - I've just reverted your edit regarding the Leeds & Liverpool Canal once again. Do read WP:VERIFY, if you haven't already - statements that begin 'it is said that...', and have no reference, have no place in Wikipedia. (The statement is also untrue, by the by - you only have to drive down the M65 from Colne, leave at Junction 11, and come in on Princess Way past Asda.) Bodysnatching ...

Hi

Before electric power to supply refrigeration, bodies would rapidly decay and become unusable for study. Therefore, the medical profession turned to body-snatching to supply the shortfall of bodies fresh enough for the organs, flesh etc to be examined.

I have a slight problem with this, in that ice was in plentiful supply in 1800s England - tons of the stuff were brought in by the fishing fleet. I have no wish to get into an edit war, so I'll leave it with you to think about. Take care. Kbthompson 16:07, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics

Hi - thanks for your recent additions to the Burnley article. We need to take what the Burnley Express says with a huge pinch of salt, however - they're not very good on fact-checking. A quick look at NOMIS, for example, reveals that the unemployment total is not 11,000 but in fact, based on those claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, 1,280 - rather a difference! The Burnley Express included, for example, people claiming Carer's Allowance and Incapacity Benefit in their total, inflating it by a factor of nine. More information at NOMIS. Hi. Sort of on the same subject, I thought I'd point out a couple of things here (rather than on the Hall's talk page!):

• the image has been flipped - see the mirror-writing on the board at bottom right of the building as shown in the picture
• it's actually another view from Piccadilly, not from Fossgate as captioned. The building can't be seen from Fossgate (though it can be seen from the back of the Loch Fyne restaurant, but that's in Walmgate...)

Yes, your message got through OK. As for photos, I've been putting mine, such as they are, into Commons. I signed up there, imported some pictures and just clicked the link to license them to all and sundry, but it's still rather counter-intuitive (i.e. written by computer people for other computer people), and the Category classification there is even more anarchic than on WP. Oh well.

BTW, you might put a couple of sentences about yourself or whatever else you fancy on your User page - then it'll be a blue link rather than a red one. --GuillaumeTell 16:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for your edits to Vasa. This is just a small note that I've reinstated the original spelling of sulfur, et al - we've decided to use American spelling on this article, and we've tried to do that consistently. NYMR & NELPG

I note you have recently edited the NYMR article adding 'with much of the traction provided by the North East Locomotive Preservation Group' (refering to 1973), my memory of those early days is fading but I would suggest that if you only count NELPG owned locos (ommitting associated locos such as 5 & 29, in those days), then even in 1973 NELPG locos were in a numerical minority, although their importance to the operating dept was much greater than the numbers. However I feel that simply saying 'much of the traction' may be a bit misleading; providing more detail may improve this entry. Do not take this as NELPG bashing, I was a NELPG member then and a life member now.
