Coordinator election[edit]

Hey, sorry about the coordinator election at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Military_history/Coordinators, it looks as of now like you won't make it. Oh well, I enjoyed the last time I worked with you and everytime I review an article which you edit frequently. Keep up the good work and you'll have my support again next time. --Banime (talk) 22:55, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I appreciate it.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 23:02, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. --Banime (talk) 15:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was not attempting to sabotage the page; I was attempting to remove a great deal of material that was poorly written and unsourced. If it is kept, I want it to look as good as possible--and I see no reason to wait on improving the article until after the AFD is finished. Please, assume good faith. TallNapoleon (talk) 02:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats![edit]

Coordinator of the
Military history Wikiproject,
October 2008 — March 2009

Congratulations on your appointment as Coordinator of the Military history Wikiproject. In honor of your achievement, I present you with these stars. I wish you luck in the coming term. -- TomStar81 (Talk) 02:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On a personal note, I will admit that I have a few reservations about seeing you bumped up to Coordinator, but in the spirit of Assume Good Faith I am going to trust that you will do a good job with your new privileges. Also, in light of the fact that your main interest is the American Civil War, I have removed my name from as a coordinator for the ACW task force so as to allow you to serve as one of the ACW's coordinators if you choose to do so. Good luck, General Bedford. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just like Tom, as I'm sure you know since you've read the conversation, you know how I stand, but I do wish you luck. Also, don't forget the userbox: {{WPMILHIST Coordinator}}. BTW: I've left you some advice with regards to adopting the TFs just above the table. -MBK004 03:01, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I forgot to mention these two essays. I highly suggest you read them: this one by Kirill, and this one by TomStar81. -MBK004 03:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Best regards[edit]

I am sorry to hear you felt it best to not be an coordinator this term. As this was a benefit to me, I felt I needed to say something to you. I hope to do you credit in the difficult task of replacing you. I hope things get better for you; I know a lot about wikidrama as well.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 04:04, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm sure you'll do fine, you're much more experienced and untiring at things like DYK processing and article assessment. As for Wikidrama, that was 18 months ago now and isn't relevant because I was just pointing out that the "drama" of this is a non-event. It's good to be able to spend more time on writing. YellowMonkey (choose Australia's next top model) 05:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations[edit]

Hi, I am really pleased that you have now been elected, albeit under unfortunate circumstances. You will make an excellent coordinator. Best wishes, Jason Jll (talk) 09:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, looks like my note above was a little too early. Congratulations (despite the unfortunate circumstances), you'll do great. --Banime (talk) 14:41, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am extremely saddened how this came about, but want to congratulate you on your appointment. Geoff Plourde (talk) 17:35, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack on userpage[edit]

I'm aware of the situation you are talking about, and while other users made false statements about you, the statement on your userpage is still incorrect and a personal attack. First of all, it was Jimbo Wales who desysoped you. Your admin rights were not "stolen" by "a few fellow administrators who thought they should arbitrarily decide what should be and should not be on Wikipedia". Also, the reason you were desysoped is because you caused an edit war over something incredibly immature, not because you were "sexist". (Sceptre, the user who called you that was incorrect and I consider him a troll). Even though there was nothing sexist about the content, the fact that it was controversial meant that you should have just let it go instead of starting an edit war about it. I personally believe though that the statement on your userpage is a violation of WP:NPA as it attacks Jimbo Wales and the other named editors, and if you do want to be an admin again, you'll have a hard time finding people willing to vote for you with a statement like that on your userpage.--ParisianBlade (talk) 01:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, someone who hasn't been on Wikipedia since May is knowledgeable about the situation? There was nothing incorrect about the statement. The admins who wanted to censor made a mountain out of a molehill. I didn't edit war as I only did two edits, and did not make a third due to the spirit of 3RR and the fact it would be changed in an hour anyway. If Jimbo didn't have friends in that group that couldn't let it go, I wouldn't been desysopped. It's been on my userpage for two months, so obviously you are in the minority thinking its an personal attack. The recent RfA by Everyking makes it clear I will never be an admin again, and since I do not like using power to bully others, being an admin again isn't that appealing.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 01:32, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been keeping an eye on Sceptre because he's proven himself to be a troublemaker/POV pusher in the past (he once got me unfairly blocked) and based on my understanding of the situation he's the one who instigated it. I'll just leave it as it is for now because I wasn't personally involved in the situation, though I did find the content unsuitable for the main page (not because it meant that you're a "sexist pig", but because it would probably generate controversy, as it proved to). The statement does seem like a personal attack to me, but since it isn't directed at me I'll just ignore it, though I have a feeling that eventually some other user will insist that you remove it.--ParisianBlade (talk) 01:47, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think he's just trying to say the statement might rub some people the wrong way. I have no idea about the situation and I don't care too much since it was so long ago but he's just saying if you wanted to be admin again you should probably take it down. Anyway if you don't care about admin anymore then who cares, just do your edits well and nothing else matters. People sometimes get hung up on little things in the past but it shouldn't bother you. Again I know nothing about your situation I was just commenting about the userpage statement.--Banime (talk) 09:30, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question[edit]

Hey, now that you're a coordinator of milhist I was wondering if you could either answer something for me or maybe work on implementing it. Is there a category for milhist members? All of my other wikiprojects are automatically categorized based on userboxes, I'm not sure of the technical explanation. But I couldn't find a way to do that for MilHist project, and I am still not in a category for that (even though my name is on the list of members). Is there a way, or could there be a way implemented? Sorry if I'm unclear, I'm not sure of the technical stuff. --Banime (talk) 14:36, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I never noticed it before. I'll go ask.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 16:37, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for bringing it up there. --Banime (talk) 19:02, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A little light gnoming?[edit]

Have you time available to help with this] please? Like in doing a range of one hundred or two? Gratitude guaranteed :) --ROGER DAVIES talk

Thanks for taking one! I omitted something from the instructions which I've just added: "Please complete the B-Class checklist for any Start-class articles on which this hasn't been done to determine whether three yesses apply". This makes it a lot easier. By the way, for technical reasons, I don't think redlinks matter. I believe the CD will link only to stuff on the CD. --ROGER DAVIES talk 04:08, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you spare the time to get your checklist completed please? --ROGER DAVIES talk 18:36, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current proposals and discussions
  • The W1.0 Editorial Team have selected 1133 Military history articles for inclusion in the W0.7 test release. For convenience, these are broken by task force and you'll find a list on each task force headed "Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for [task force name]" on the task force talk page. You may nominate extra articles for inclusion or existing ones for removal. If you can improve any of the articles on the list, by adding references, or copy-editing, or cleaning up generally, please do so.
  • A new discussion has started about naming articles on Soviet WWII operations. All contributions are welcome as we hope to resolve this longstanding issue once and for all.
  • The debate over whether Milhist should adopt C-Class is continuing. All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Help me out here. My new article fails to meet Class B because it fails "B5 - contains appropriate supporting graphics, infoboxes, or images". I gave it an infobox, and dug out a picture. What am I missing here? Hawkeye7 (talk) 04:10, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like another picture or two. However, if someone else reviews it and OK's a B, I won't complain. I liked it well enough to nominate it for TT:DYK.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 04:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indiana in the ACW[edit]

Hey Bedford, when I get home this evening I will go through the article and try to add more citations. I have about 20 different books I can use. Almost everything in there has a source from one of those books, so I should be able to help out with that a bit. It looks like the prose will be the biggest problem, do you know a copy editor who could maybe lend a hand?

And what do you think about Maria's request to dumb the article down a bit? Once I have my books, and can source new things, I don't mind to give a shot at that. But, I kinda agree with Madman, that its silly to go into much detail trying to explain everything... That is why we have articles with those topics. Anyways, just let me know if you need anything, I am glad to help! I have copies of most of the general's memoirs, Jefferson Davis's histories, four different Indiana history book, two by Funk with Civil War info, and Foote's three volumes.. and more! Plus whatever is online. Charles Edward 17:12, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed all but one of the missing page refs, and I'll get Funk's number when I go get the book at IUS tonight. That one dead link is unrecoverable, as it was from an SCV page I saw in 2003. I'd hate to lose that story, but we may not have a choice. I don't like dumbing it down either; like you said, that what we have links for and this is not the Simplified English Wikipedia.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 17:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

How do I go about placing inline citations into the article Uniforms of the Confederate Military. Thanks! --LORDoliver † (talk) 23:52, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simply add ref tags pointing to the source of the material of the paragraph.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 00:05, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think it is good now? Thanks! --LORDoliver † (talk) 00:29, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tell you what. I have a book in my lap as I type entitled "Uniforms, Weapons, and Equipment of the Civil War". I'll see if I can add the necessary cites. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate if you take a look at Music of the American Civil War and see if there is anything you can add.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 00:32, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so! much! This is such a help! --LORDoliver † (talk) 00:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy, do you think that Uniforms of the Confederate States military forces is ready to be nominated for Good Article Status?--LORDoliver † (talk) 23:19, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead, and I'll watch. GA reviewers love their inline citations, especially at the end of every paragraph, so I can see that being one of thei issues, but that's correctable.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 23:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you want me to read through to prepare/review it for the GA process or do you just wanna go ahead and nominate it for GA and I can go all out? Either way is fine but if you think it's closer to GA then I might as well do it for real. Let me know what you want/think. --Banime (talk) 23:51, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, sorry, if I nom it then I don't think I'd be allowed to review it. If you end up noming it let me know and I'll review it. Or I can just do a peer review, either one. I'd say it fits best under Music since theres a sub-group called Music Eras, and I can't find anything related under the History section. Let me know what you do and I'll review it. --Banime (talk) 00:06, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about DYKs[edit]

I've seen your work in DYKs, and I'm new to DYKs and have submitted two in the past few days. I'm wondering if it's appropriate to add DYK nominations to the top, or the bottom of the date. Do more current noms go at the top? That's what I've been doing but I want to make sure it's correct and I'm not "cutting." Also, I couldn't find it anywhere in the rules but maybe I'm blind. Thanks. --Banime (talk) 17:33, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally on top, but are often put on the bottom.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 21:46, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Also, is there anything you have to do once they are "checked off" by somebody? Or do they get put into the que eventually (hopefully) by another editor later on down the line? --Banime (talk) 16:15, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Once they are check, eventually they will make it, but occasionally someone will disapprove it, so it helps to keep checking back until it actually does make the main page.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 16:17, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. --Banime (talk) 16:19, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have some rough wording, especially in the sentence about first Confederate standard. Work on that, and then put a cite at the end of that sentence, and it should be DYK ready.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 06:27, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure[edit]

Yeah, I'll take a look at it when I have time. I'm relatively new to FACs but I can still help out at least a little. Also, an unrelated question, but my A Class review of Frederick III, German Emperor I believe has enough support to be promoted. It currently has 3 supports which you can see here. If you or the other coordinators think it needs more support then that's fine but I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't overlooked since the third support is kind of harder to spot. Thanks for checking it out if you can. --Banime (talk) 12:27, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking at that for me. Also, I'm not sure how this works, but you have to go through each projects A Class review to get A Class for that specific project, or is one enough? I thought it was always project-specific except for GA and FA class, but I could be wrong. My next step was going to be trying to get past WP-BIO's A Class review but if I don't need to then I'll just head right to peer review. --Banime (talk) 19:05, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Far as I know, one is good enough. No one has told me differently.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 20:26, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm copyeditting and reading through Indiana in the American Civil War as we speak, so you know. --Banime (talk) 20:36, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lexington ACW[edit]

Hello, Bedford! The main reason I moved Lexington in the American Civil War to Lexington, Kentucky, in the American Civil War was cut off in my edit summary ("...not one of the 27 cities not requiring the state modifier; to distingui"). To finish the edit summary: "...to distinguish from Lexington, Missouri, and the Battle of Lexington II." But, meh, I will leave it to you. Rgrds. --Tombstone (talk) 13:29, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ACW TF[edit]

This is appearing more and more frequently on the radar. Are there any inherent problems I should know about? Is there a shift in membership perhaps reflecting POVs? Ideas? --ROGER DAVIES talk 07:51, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see what you are worried about. We;ve had no membership problems.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 07:53, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not worried, I'm curious. After months of inactivity, the talk page has suddenly got busy, and with the sort of polemic stuff I usually associate with Eastern Europe. Call me a happy-clappy namby-pamby cuckoo-cloud-land pinko idealist if you will, but I like my watch to be a happy watch :) --ROGER DAVIES talk 08:02, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of chemical warfare agents[edit]

Hello there, thanks for giving an assessment on Tabun (nerve agent). It's getting closer to B-class but still needs more citations. However, that's not wanted I wanted to speak to you about. On the talk page for list of chemical warfare agents, you changed it back from list to start class. I just want to ask why. It appears to me to be in a list format (and has list in the title). MilHist doesn't recognize List as an assessment.--Gen. Bedford his Forest 20:38, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. I am relatively unfamiliar with WP:MILHIST, but thanks for answering my question. RockManQ (talk) 20:45, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
